Back in 1978 we rode the "National" to Indy, spent the day there and rode back to Dayton in a thunderstorm,,,the storm was GREAT! The ex-PRR yard in Richmond was still active with black GP7/9s. The crossing at 12:00 has been rebuilt twice recently. Also at this crossing a few years ago, a woman tried to commit suicide here by driving her car onto the tracks. She survived, the CORVETTE didn't! Next town south , Camden has a great food joint called "the depot." Right next to the tracks with a photo showing the location about 1920. I remember eating there in Aug. 1976 just after NW got the line. (There was a NW work train spreading ballast,,,2 NW GP18s at the depot) The line had white ballast, jointed rail and position lights. Through trains were taken off (1974)after Amtrak re-routed the JWR off this line due to crappy rail/speed restrictions. This line probably was not long for this world, if not for CR selling this line to NW April 1, 1976.

Richmond was a HUGE PRR town. It once had a roundhouse and big yard. All long gone. A line to Indy/Cincy/Michigan/and the Dayton line that split in New Paris with another line going to Bradford. The Cincy line is all that is left. Add to this the C&O line to Chicago that CSX trashed in 1986. Richmond is a shell of it's former self.

I'd love to see some pictures of it back when it was thriving. I had no idea it was such a railroad town.

There used to be an incredible amount of track in Richmond. It isn’t obvious today.
