Join me on a hot and humid trail run at Carter Preserve in Charlestown, Rhode Island. Blueberries aplenty and there's a bear somewhere out there - will I find it?

Someone just got a great shot of a bear clinging to a tree only a couple miles from here. And bobcats are being seen all over. Pretty cool how the wildlife has been returning here.

The stabilization on whatever you were using while running is insane!
@RhodySeth
@RhodySeth 2 ай бұрын
That was the GoPro Hero 11 - yeah, the stabilization on the more recent action cameras is stellar. It's gotten to the point where I take it for granted. I remember only a few years ago I was running with a GoPro attached to a massive gimbal to get footage not even as good.

Indeed, you're not their food, but you're eating theirs! lol So, who's going to protect their bounty!? lol We've had some areas in the province totally devastated by the spruce budworm too. Sad to see. Bet that dip certainly did hit the spot!! Hope you do have a pleasant bear encounter one day...but for Otis and I, a bear bell will be worn! lol

I would have taken a dive about 5 times if I ran that trail. You're like a ninja. I do believe that was bear poop.

I've been a bit more cautious since the knee injury so no diggers recently but still when it comes to trail running, it's only a matter of time...

We camped last week in the Catskills and had a bear come through our tentsite. First time that's happened for me, at least it's the first time I heard it. Was 4:30am and heard it clearly walking around our site. My damn tent zipper was stuck and I didn't get a chance to see it but a nearby neighbor chased it away. Was still cool!

Oof, not the way I'd want to finally see one but I guess I'd take it!

@@RhodySeth Yes agreed, I'm on the fence with how I feel about it. We stayed at the most popular campground in the Catskills, it's gorgeous with about 220 sites. At no point was I nervous as the bears there are unfortunately very accustomed to people and their food. The staff makes this very clear. We had a lake front site and the bear had to walk through dozens of sites to get to ours. It made no issue and did not even sniff our tent, it just walked through to the water. I heard the neighbor chase it away and talked with him about it in the morning. I also realize that at anytime the bear could have pawed our tent and it could have been an issue. Doesn't change anything for me whatsoever and I loved the experience even of just hearing him out there but it will definitely make me be sure to adhere to all proper bear guidelines which I always do anyway. I've seen them a number of times mostly in New Jersey believe it or not. This was my first Catskills bear out of 50 trips. Saw a couple in the Whites before. In New Jersey we've seen some big ones and within 50 yards but they always ran from us. Check out my channel page and the pictures I posted if you like Seth, that campground is incredible. Cheers bud! LONG WALL OF TEXT! LOL

Blueberry season had been WILD in the caterpillar destruction zones. Pretty sure those dark ones are black huckleberries, not as good imo and very seedy. I've been seeing the bear scat a lot too, luckily haven't ran into it and don't want too as I with the dogs!

The big ones were bear poo. The small ones, dropped bear dingle-berries.

I checked my scat field guide, and the most likely candidate seems to be raccoon. They seem to be too small for bear.
@RhodySeth

A dissenting opinion, excellent! Thanks - hadn't considered a raccoon but that seems like a likely candidate.

We saw the raspberry version along the Sawyer River Trail years back. Right after my daughter noticed something large and dark moving around in the bushes.
