We camped last week in the Catskills and had a bear come through our tentsite. First time that's happened for me, at least it's the first time I heard it. Was 4:30am and heard it clearly walking around our site. My damn tent zipper was stuck and I didn't get a chance to see it but a nearby neighbor chased it away. Was still cool!

@@RhodySeth Yes agreed, I'm on the fence with how I feel about it. We stayed at the most popular campground in the Catskills, it's gorgeous with about 220 sites. At no point was I nervous as the bears there are unfortunately very accustomed to people and their food. The staff makes this very clear. We had a lake front site and the bear had to walk through dozens of sites to get to ours. It made no issue and did not even sniff our tent, it just walked through to the water. I heard the neighbor chase it away and talked with him about it in the morning. I also realize that at anytime the bear could have pawed our tent and it could have been an issue. Doesn't change anything for me whatsoever and I loved the experience even of just hearing him out there but it will definitely make me be sure to adhere to all proper bear guidelines which I always do anyway. I've seen them a number of times mostly in New Jersey believe it or not. This was my first Catskills bear out of 50 trips. Saw a couple in the Whites before. In New Jersey we've seen some big ones and within 50 yards but they always ran from us. Check out my channel page and the pictures I posted if you like Seth, that campground is incredible. Cheers bud! LONG WALL OF TEXT! LOL

Blueberry season had been WILD in the caterpillar destruction zones. Pretty sure those dark ones are black huckleberries, not as good imo and very seedy. I've been seeing the bear scat a lot too, luckily haven't ran into it and don't want too as I with the dogs!

@RhodySeth

Most of them received their names in the 1800's. Eisenhower is a relatively new one. It was previously known as Mt. Pleasant until New Hampshire legislature changed it to honor President Eisenhower in 1970.

@ArtJanicek
@ArtJanicek 11 күн бұрын
@@RhodySethMy point. People crawl everywhere on this planet at this point. And people do people things. People like to leave their mark. Do you live in a dwelling? You've modified the surface of this planet as well. You've left your mark. Once we're gone, and it may not be too long now, the Earth will reclaim itself and wipe away all the ways in which we've changed it. It is a shame that your place in the wild was modified in such a fashion by another human that was projecting a piece of themselves, or a piece of their culture onto it. Perhaps the intent of the artist was to degrade the experience of other hikers in the area. Perhaps the intent of the artist was to generate views on KZbin shorts? Whose to know. I'm hopeful that your post discourages people from practicing their art form in such places but I'm skeptical it will. I think we'll see more of this sort of thing in the future and it's just in human nature. Cheers!
