Very Much Enjoyed your Road trip! I Laughed Remembering when I got Home from overseas, Took a drive at night and after about 20 miles I Realized the signs were curiously backwards and I just barely avoided an extremely abrupt meeting with an eighteen wheeler as I was a bit too accustomed to driving on the left. South Africa looks like a place I would really enjoy riding my old Harley!

Thanks for sharing, text me back to my childhood. I’m 68 years old and my father had a green 1958 Ford two door three speed on a column six cylinder just like the one you showed except our steering wheel here in the states is on the other side

I had a 1958 Ford Fair-lane Convertible, with a V8 352 police interceptor motor. I took the automatic out and put in a Cadillac lascal standard Transmission.

i really liked your road trip and hope you pick up that 58 soon. I'm in Canada and our classics tend to be a little more rusty. BTW maybe your David Brown tractor comment was tongue in cheek but, for those not aware, that David Brown got on to Aston Martin....that's where the DB designation of their cars started...another supercar marque associated with tractor manufacture!

@ 14:05 that's a '38(?)-'42 FORD "big truck". (The trucks weren't actually larger but the front grill and running gear was different from the '39-'40 "small series" version, which were VERY popular trucks to 'rod stateside, [I hear Chevy S-10 mini-truck frames fit them ok,]). Get it if you can please! Also, was there no windshield wiper motor on that '58?!? All I saw was the hood latch! That's so cool!!

Very interesting Road trip bro, it's very similar to driving in out back Australia. The overhanging rocks as you drove through the pass, keeping watch for falling rocks would be daunting. What a score the 58 compact fairlane, so rare even in Australia or the states for that matter. Grooving to Pink Floyd on your stereo what a buzz. RHD so good to see, got to get over for a look see.
@ratrodsafrica2 жыл бұрын
Come! I'll play you some Pink Floyd 😂 Unfortunately I didn't get the Fairlane, tied up in complicated unfinished estate. Those things can take years to resolve...😪

Olá. Essa mão de direção é boa para andar com a sogra, em ruas com bastante carretas no sentido contrário. Abraços. Vc que é feliz. Dá uma voltinha e acha esses projetos maravilhosos. Aqui no Brasil. Acabaram os carros para fazer os projetos.

My parents had a 58 Ranch Wagon when I was a kid - six cylinder with three-speed column shift, but I don't remember the aircleaner looking anything like that. Of course I don't have any photos, but maybe the Export cars or African Fords got different air cleaners?? Anybody got any idea? IIRC the air cleaner our Ranch wagon had was round and sat horizontally on top of the carburetor.

Ford opened a factory in South Africa in 1926. As far as I can find out, many parts were shipped out from the States but the vehicles were factory assembled as RHD.
