I’ve managed to catch a couple 52-55cm soapies off the beach at night (perth NOR) which was great fun. Are you American Adam? If you ever fish in Australia's oceans, please never hold a fish by the side of their lips. Almost all of them have sharp teeth and you will bleed.

@@jabangun sorry to correct you mate but I'm a fisho from Perth and I've caught plenty of Mully's best place to grab em is the side of the lip. They don't thrash around as they are usually too buggered for anything and just lie there. I do take the hooks out first though to save anything stupid happening. If your not aware of this technique you can jump on KZbin and lookup kob fishing in South Africa. There are plenty of pros and avid anglers that utilise this technique. In saying this I wouldn't do it with a fish like a pinky though, they'd make mince meat out of a finger in the wrong spot and they don't have the type of soft side lip like a mulloway.
