You just described the exact same feeling I had playing Chasing Static. For me something happened between the original idea created in the demo and the final game. The demo (which is the game's prologue) is excellent, it creates a feeling of insecurity and immersion very well achieved. But I feel like the plot and mystery will be diluted in the final game. It's weird to admit but the same thing has happened to me with many indie horror games. The demo explores the main idea that the developers want to carry out, and the final game feels like... "filler", like a stretched product struggling to capture the player's attention. There are plenty of exceptions, Chasing Static is far from a bad game, but unfortunately it is one more example of the kind of game whose quality drops off sharply after the prologue ends. However I will look forward to the future project of this developer.

One of the exceptions to that is Alien Isolation. One of the best games in general and honestly my favorite horror game ever.
