I once saw this back in the 1990s. I was up steam of Dunham bridge, fishing a big match on a split tide. I had drawn the ‘dubs’, and was on the deeper outside of the bend. The match was double banked, and there was a competitor on the opposite bank from me. I saw the wave heading upstream towards me, so was able to get my gear higher up the bank. The guy opposite was not so lucky; he was on a gently shelving gravel bank. He had to gather up what he could a run like the wind. He couldn’t see the wave as he had his back to it. Before that day, I never realised that the Trent had its own tidal bore.

@@davidbarringham7992 it’s frightening isn’t it. I fish the Trent myself, so I’m familiar with the Dubs. I’ve had a few occasions myself on a big tide where it’s come up a foot before you know it. It certainly demands respect. Thanks for watching!

Thanks for sharing that. It's amazing our mother nature, isn't it. It's also quite scary knowing there's a force controlling our tides! Fascinating! 😊

@@bumblejennybee88 thanks for watching Jenny. Yeah it’s brilliant, especially if you’re a bit of a geek for random things like this. Hopefully we get a good one soon, as they’re spectacular to watch.

It only goes up to Gunthorpe Weir now doesn't it? I used to watch the Severn bore years ago too when I lived in Wales. Cracking video pal 👍

@@patrickrose1221 Thanks for watching, glad you enjoyed. No it’s tidal up to Cromwell Weir near Collingham. Gunthorpe Weir is on the non-tidal, further up the river 👍

Hi we’re from Derbyshire but love Gainsborough and go 2 or 3 times a month, I always try and take a short video of the Trent from the Poundstretcher car park and have a playlist of Gainsborough mainly the Trent at on my channel. Only saw an Aegir there once but did manage to film it but no more spectacular than yours. If you search Gainsborough Aegir on KZbin the best is one done by some young lads where some boats really rattled on the pontoon

@@atrampinthehills.841 thanks for that mate! Just a shame we didn’t get a bigger Aegir, I won’t be defeated though, there will be other chances to see a bigger one.

We have the same thing where I live on the banks of the Ouse there's even a property in the village called Aeger house . We've lived there 3 years and I've only seen the bore once . Perhaps that's cos I'm always at bloody work 😕

@@SandyVollans you should get it at the same time we do I think mate, as the tide goes down the Humber then splits down the Trent and Ouse.

Hi James, that was so interesting! I grew up in Scunny and never knew that about the Aegir. I am definitely going to go watch one! Are there any goods walks around Gainsborough?☺

@@carriehikes ah didn’t realise you were local! There’s a few places to explore, there’s lots of the Trent you can walk, the chesterfield and fossdyke canals are nice too. Laughton forest is good to get lost in for a few hours also. We’ve not got many hills to climb but we’ve still got lots of amazing countryside and places to see. Thanks for watching as always 😊

Great footage thanks James. What were the river levels like? As you say a very fickle bore that needs just the right conditions. I’ve been wanting to surf it for years but it never feels like the right time. This month clearly not 😂

@@trevellyan2182 thanks for watching! Yeah it’s been a nightmare of late. The river was quite low, but it’s just one of those things. I’ve seen a few surfing it in the past, braver than me, so fair play 😂 hopefully October will be better 🤞🤞

@@Takingawalkwithmybestfriend yeah it's strange there have been zero decent sightings since 2019 it seems. Toying with coming over next month to find this fickle beasty! I've yet to come from a bore hunt empty handed... time to push my luck maybe! 😉 Be great to meet up if you're around.

@@trevellyan2182 I’ve not seen a good one for 6 or 7 years, was talking to someone who says there’s been dredging around the mouth of the river, which might affect it a bit, who knows 🤷‍♂️ it’s one of those isn’t it! Subbed to your channel 👍
