100km later this video is the best! I've got 354,000km on my old Corolla. Yup, it's an oil burner but in 5 years I've had no breakdowns, no repairs, just one brake job cuz it's a standard :)

So, I am watching this video because my husband's 1999 Toyota Corolla SE has its "check engine light" on, has shown that there is a "P0302" code issue, and has failed its emission test. So, we are going to .... well my HUSBAND is going to ... follow your video and change his own (his car's) spark plugs. Thanks a lot!

Whew, Lad! Address that positive battery terminal at once! I just bought a 2002 Chevy Prizm and it was exactly like that. I read it's from the alternator overcharging the battery and it's copper sulfate. That was the first bit of work I did to the car. I scraped every bit of scrapable corrosion off, then used that Noco battery acid neutralizer spray on it. One other thing I'll mention is you put way too much anti-seize lubricant on those threads. Most mechanics just say not to even use it on spark plugs. Don't really want them lubricated and able to back out due to vibration anyway.

Great job and fine camera shots! (I would remind folks to always let the engine get cold before starting this.) Question: Don't we need to put a dab of dielectric grease inside the coil pack before reinstalling it?
@imperial736 жыл бұрын
Great video. No offense, but those are not "coil packs". They are individual coils. A coil pack is an ignition coil for all of the plugs with 4, 6 or 8 contacts.

+chasiu75 Should i worry if one of the bolts doesn't tie down the coils since i probably stripped it? The bolts I am talking about is in time 3:22 of the video.

Not ideal but the fit is tight enough on the spark plug that it should be okay. If you start getting a misfire you will know where to check.

@chasiu755 жыл бұрын
Yes, but it could be a damaged spark plug wire also. You can do a ohms test with a meter. I recommend OEM wires.
@straightedgereviews89465 жыл бұрын
Does it have plug wires it has same engine and same set up
@chasiu755 жыл бұрын
Actually if the same as this one no. It would be a coil pack issue. No spark plug wires. You can try the spark plug first. If that doesn't work you will need to isolate which coil pack is failing.

Everyones always talking about these engines burning oil and needing a rebuild. I see so many of these cars for sale with well over 200k on them. Mines might use maybe a half quart between oil changes. It calls for thin 5 30 oil, Go a little thicker with a quality 10 30 weight oil, keep an eye on the level and youll be fine.
@evan9376 жыл бұрын
I have a 2000 Corolla with 225k. After over five years of ownership she still doesn't burn a drop of oil. I believe that although they had a piston design flaw, with proper maintenance and care they can last a long time. :)

That was undoubtedly a good car back in the year 2000 but they gave those engines serious oil consumption problems due to the design of their pistons, pity that the repair is so expensive because they really gave a great service for more than 15 years or 250,000 km .
