Hiking to Chasm Lake on November 12, 2023. This lake sits below the east face of Longs Peak and has some amazing views. I didn't leave the trailhead until noon, but I'd recommend leaving earlier in the morning. Less chance of getting caught in afternoon storms and the lighting is better.
Directions to Trailhead:
Park at the Longs Peak Trailhead located south of Estes Park off Peak to Peak Highway (Hwy 7). You can also take the North Longs Peak trail starting at the Glacier Gorge Trailhead, this will add some distance over the east trail.
Round Trip Distance: 8.4 miles (13.5km) round trip from trailhead.
Elevation Gain: 2,390 feet (728m)
Conditions:
Partly cloudy, starting temperature around 45 degrees colder near Chasm Lake.
Camera equipment used:
GoPro HERO8 Black (4K30 Wide FOV)

Thanks Chelsea & Mike! They have some fun names 😂. I saw some people walk across the lake, but I’m not taking any chances. I’ll go back later in the winter when the ice is thick and check out the other side of the lake. Have a great week!

I did this hike in Feb a couple of years ago. Had the lake to myself and walked on the lake all the way to the base of the Diamond. Hearing the cascading echo of my spikes hitting the ice surface off the surrounding cliff walls was simply magical

It's that time of year! Good call on the "frozen" lake, it doesn't look like there would be much help nearby if it cracked!
