Chatakpur | চটকপুর দার্জিলিং | New place of North Bengal | Chatakpur Darjeeling | Chatakpur tour plan | Chatakpur tour guide
Chatakpur is a small village adjacent to Darjeeling inside Senechal Wildlife Sanctuary. The village consists of only 20-25 houses/ families.
Dense Pine forest, clouds playing hide & seek, sighting of Mt. Kanchenjunga, birds chirping on the trees these are the common scenario of Chatakpur. In this video we are going to explore Chatakpur.
To reach Chatakpur you can take share cab from Siliguri towards Darjeeling. Get down at Sonada. Ask your homestay to arrange a car from Sonada to your homestay. Fare will be approx. Rs 1500.
Although from Dawaipani we reached Darjeeling, spent some time there and then started journey to Chatakpur via Sonada.
Just after crossing Sonada we entered into Senechal Wildlife Sanctuary towards Chatakpur. Road condition is very pathetic but mesmerizing nature will weave off all tiredness of this journey. While going through jungle you may feel some animal is keeping an eye on you. The last part of this road is worse. There are no proper road only boulders all over the path. In the rainy season this road is very risky.
At Chatakpur Entry point entry fee per car is Rs 200 & per person Rs 150. It is valid for 24 hours.
Just after crossing entry point the road has been divided into two paths. One is towards Upper Chatakpur & another is towards Lower Chatakpur.
Our homestay is located in the middle of Upper & Lower Chatakpur. Finally we have reached at Chatakpur entry gate.
We got down from the car & climbed up few steps to reach our homestay. It was small, cozy homestay. View from homestay was beautiful. On a clear day you can easily notice Mt. Kanchenjunga from here.
Rooms were small but neat & clean, furnished with two beds & geyser was provided in the bathroom.
Then we took rest for a while & went to explore Lower Chatakpur. There was a homestay & a small shop attached to the homestay. Chatakpur Forest Bungalow is also situated here but Mt. Kanchenjunga is not visible from here & there are some mobile network issues.
Then we walked towards Pine forest.
We came back to our homestay. In the evening tea & hot momo was served as evening snacks. It was cold outside so we came to our room. Then we got a call for dinner around 9 o’ clock. Menu for dinner was Roti, Dal, Sabji & then we went to bed.
Today we woke up early in the morning but Alas! Weather is not clear so Mt. Kanchenjunga is not visible. But one can get a beautiful view of Mt. Kanchenjunga on a clear sunny day. It is our bad luck that at first from Dawaipani & now from Chatakpur we haven’t seen Mt. Kanchenjunga at least for once.
Quiet, calm simple atmosphere at Chatakpur, beautiful sunrise amidst the pine forest is memorable to us.
While roaming around our homestay we got to see many beautiful birds. For low temperature dew drops became ice.
We got fresh & started for Chatakpur view point. It is situated at the top position of Chatakpur. We started walking through village path. Here people cultivated mustard plant & other vegetables in the field adjacent to their homes.
Finally we reached at Upper Chatakpur. As we are moving up scenery is becoming more beautiful. There was no one else except us. Silence all around. Clouds are playing hide v& seek with us. If it was a clear day view of Mt. Kanchenjunga was beautiful but we got to experience a totally different moment created by clouds.
We spent a lot of time there & finally returned to our homestay & had breakfast. Puri, Sabji was in the menu.
Suddenly we met with two of our beloved subscribers there. We all were very happy.
Finally we started our journey towards Chatakpur Pukhri/ Lake. First part of this path is running through the Pine forest & then a small path through the dense forest. Path is becoming narrower as bushes & forest is becoming denser. There was no one else except us. It was a thrilling experience. Maybe some animal will jump out of the jungle. There was dense forest everywhere. It is a lifetime experience. Finally we reached to our destination ‘Pukhri’.Pukhri is a small water body in the middle of the forest. Sometimes animals come here to quench their thirst.
While returning we followed the same path through the jungle.
Then we took our luggage from the homestay & boarded our pre-booked cab for returning. Same pathetic road & a brand new place, new journey.
