When your grounds are so big, you can build a second castle to get away from the stressful life in your first castle #relatable

Lol there is another one: the Petit Trianon. And btw it is not a castle, it is a palace

It's fun how Marie Antoinette built a cottage style house in the most luxurious palace in Europe. Guess she was tired of marble and fancy statues all day
@guilhermedeb.13475 жыл бұрын
She had the Hameau built for two reasons: escaping from the etiquette of the court was one, but the main one was to educated her young children on the life of the peasants and (future) subjects. That’s why the Hameau suffered the most after the revolution: it was built with fragile materials, because it wasn’t meant to last for too long, only while the royal children were, you know, children. A lot of the constructions of the Hameau don’t even have a purpose and the most of the wood beams and bricks are only painted to appear real. The Hameau stayed abandoned for a long period and only recently it went through a major renovation.

@Berserkelion Yes, she wanted her children to have a general idea of what life outside a palace was like. Of course the conditions were VERY different from what actual peasants lived like, but she thought it was important for her kids to understand that 99% of people in France lived very humbly and very much different the court. The Hameau was built with poor materials because it was supposed to be a mockup, a “stage”, for the young princes and princesses to learn. She was not silly or stupid, quite the opposite: Marie Antoinette was quite clever. But her intelligence (and the fact that she was Austrian) did not please most of the aristocracy, who turned against her and also made the people turn too. We tend to think of the French Revolution as People Versus Aristocracy, but that’s actually very inaccurate. Many aristocrats dressed in the revolutionary colours (red, white and blue) INSIDE the Palace of Versailles just to provoke the queen.

But without Marie Antoinette, you would not have had a patron paying for all of the arts. Imagine that. Did t think of that, did you. Think of the people she and the King employed.

Interesting how people were starving yet those kings build those marvels on their back. "Give them cake " she was saying then, no mercy for her after 200+ years, I cant have pity on them, on none of them and none of the descendants or on crowned heads of today. Egalite , Fraternite, Liberte, Equality, Brotherhood and Freedom that's is what we should not forget and cherish!
