The private quarters of Marie Antoinette have long been my primary decor inspiration. Since studying abroad in Paris years ago and seeing the Château Versailles in person, I made a vow to myself that should I ever own my own Home, I will decorate it with homage to Marie Antoinette's aesthetic. I purchased my first and truly Forever Home not quite two years ago. I have been transforming it to possess numerous ornate, French and French-inspired, hyper-elegant Marie Antoinette-esque elements. It brings me such satisfying energy acquiring so much Vintage and Antiques. A documentary such as this is quite fascinating as well as motivating. 🖤

Note of Interest? The famous croissant (French for crescent) was actually brought to France by Marie from her native Austria. Years before, the Austrian Army defeated the Turkish Army near Vienna and finally sent them packing. To celebrate this great Austrian victory, the Viennese bakers created a small bread roll in the shape of the Turkish national symbol, the crescent. Thus the Viennese could tear apart this almost holy Turkish symbol and dunk it into their coffee. This is the Crescent Marie brought to France, where the name became Croissant.

I must correct you. It was not the Austrian Army but the Polish Army that defeated the Turks in the famous Siege of Vienna. The Austrian ruler wrote to the Polish King Jan Sobieski, who was later called in Europe the Saviour of Vienna. I went on a bicycle tour of Versailles grounds and we ended at the hamlet. This was in 2018 and the grounds and buildings were so precious and well maintained, I hope it can be that way again so people can continue to experience this very special place.

Technically they used to mean the same thing a courtesan was just a female courtier, only after a prostitute called herself such in a court case did the meaning slowly change over time, like master and mistress of the house, but mistress can also mean a side lover

Marie Antoinette was clearly self-centered, highly entitled and over the top extravagant. She was completely and utterly out of touch with real life, the people of her kingdom, and their needs. It appears as though she never gave it a single thought. Her husband, allowing her such indulgences appears to be similarly in his own world. They were building a powder keg for themselves and brought about their own demise. Such a pity.

Marie Antoinette lived a life of misery lmao, being shipped off to a foreign country to marry some Prince at aged 13, where she was ostracized due to her Austrian descent, and her every actions being scrutinized by the French Court & Public as well from her home by her mother. The King she married was a weak man who inherited a country in crisis left by his extravagant predecessors... yes she did live an indulgent and out of touch life, but pretty much everyone in that god forsaken palace is 💀

Marie A went thru SO MUCH judgement. There was no one she really she trusted. Yes she had friends but they can use the "thoughts" like money . Telling people things and twisting them. She was an extrovert and had a happy disposition which jealous women hated because nit only was she beautiful, rich and had the highest ranking- she "appeared" happy. And she wasnt a native born into it. She was brought in and handed everything easily with no effort ( in their minds) just give birth. So here she is- constantly judged and gossiped about. Many are almost all are exaggerated lies. She liked her husband as a friend but not a passionate love partner. He was akward with her. They saw each other as distant friends. Too different. The marriage wasnt bad just in the bed arena. Marie loved new things, art and fashion. She had no head for the value of money. She was born into wealth . I think it would have helped if she helped and visited the poor . Instead she gave over the top parties. She gave the impression she didnt care about her kingdom.

Maybe, she should have been tutored more for the "French-Aristocrat way" before arriving 🛬 n France. They say she was, but she needed someone to acknowledge the pedantic ways of it and give some sympathy. Then she would have time to come to terms with it. I think they just expected her to accept it.
