Ironic. I was just asking ChatGPT about gears today and whether it could figure out different ratios, as well as immediate changes to design and the results. It did an incredible job of describing exactly what I was looking for..

I wonder if anyone has asked it to solve the gear train on a lathe to cut a certain thread pitch ? I know of a few that have been playing around getting it to write sketches in Arduino (C++) and Micropython but this seems counterintuitive to me as one still needs to have an understanding of these codes to be able to de-bug it .

You need to look at it as a helper - so yes, you sould know more about the subject matter to make sure it is giving you the correct answers. And know how to test it.
