This is all about control and keeping AI tools in the hands of large corporations who are set to have significant impacts on their profits if AI becomes freely available. There's a reason they are focussing on open AI tools and not companies like Google who are doing all their AI research behind closed doors. Take AI like ChatGPT for instance, at some point in the future it will be able to perform a lot of tasks large companies currently want to charge you money for. The same thing has already happened with AI image generation. As soon as AI tools like Stable Diffusion was released we had big stock image companies and Adobe trying to demonise it and call it unethical whilst trying to offer their own "ethical" paid AI image creation services. The problem isn't AI the problem is our society isn't advanced enough to cope with it. A capitalistic society rulled by billionares and massive tech corporations is not a good starting point for a world involving AI.

@@ojerico6097 Everything that can be used to harm others or used in a malicious way needs to be regulated to a point. However we need to adapt our society to advancements like AI not try and limit the technology to fit in with our failing society model. If you think governments and lobbyists are pushing for heavy regulations to keep people safe or benefit society I think you're being very naive. Keeping AI tools in the hands of big corporations serves 3 simple goals. First it keeps the corporate lobbyists and the extreme wealthy happy, second it prolongs the inevitable collapse of failing economies just a little bit longer, and thirdly it makes the governments job a lot easier as they just need to regulate a few major corporations rather than to regulate the population. Well at least to pretend to regulate corporations anyway.

The problem with all the topics discussed is that it's all public use and none of it will ever be a threat to humanity. Ironically, what truly matters is how it will get used in military, because that is where the danger is, and not a breath of that was uttered. Weird, huh? It's simple logic really. Let's reference Terminator. If AI of this calibre isn't used in military, how will AI ever pose a threat to people when it has no access to weapons? Right, so it's when it has access to weaponry it can do real harm to people, and weirdly, that's all in military, not the general public. So all these concerns about general public safety, like, "oh my God, my data" and "what if children learn self-harm" is like saying we shouldn't sell knives to the public because someone might get hurt. Yeah, they will, but in the big picture, that's not where the threat it.

Nearly everyone came prepared to ask the right questions. By prepared, they would point out an issue longer than their questions. I was actually impressed. Btw, not knowing and pretending not to know are two different things. Sometimes you can pretend not to know (to be polite) for the person being asked to give you the answers you need. It's called staging in the interview process -- you're staging the question not because you don't know the answer but because you want to hear the interviewee's point of view. This has already started and the next 3 years are going to be brutal. Everybody can't be a freelancer and even if they could, there won't be a need for services. This is the first real push back at humanity ever. Everything you listed was an industrial age extension of human interaction and potential. AI is an exponential replacement of the last thing we have to offer. This is going to be a diminishement of an individuals reach. When everybody can do this, nobody will have any power, except the corporations. They get to decide who gets paid and it will be very few people. All jobs that are not service sector or manual labor will be shrunk. You clearly don't understand this, or how many jobs that actually is. My caution isn't about all the abundance of leisure time we're going to have. It's that we will not change our current economic systems to match the automation. If you kill 50% of the jobs over a 5 year period, those people will have no money to live on. There will be nothing for them to do. If you take 30% of workers trained and employed in accounting and you automate the accounting jobs away forever, what will those people do with those skills they went to school for and accumulated debt for? You can't retrain them because you won't re hire them. Every other industry they could retrain and move too will be experiencing the same shrinkage of workforce. It will be in the legal field, finance, tech, call services, design, writing, medicine, all the sciences, and all the industries that support them. The problems lie with our organization of society. If there are no workers to tax and we continue to refuse to tax corporations properly, and we continue to allow the rich to keep all the money they steal from us, how will we fund society? How will we pay for paved roads, electricity, etc.? Who will buy the stuff the corporations make?

Elvis, Michael Jackson, 2 Pac, Biggie etc. on new songs. Sounds great right, but look at the dangers of your voice being able to be copied. You receive a phonecall from a "recruiter", they get you on the phone for 30 seconds and record your voice. They can now re-create your voice, get your personal information online, phone your wife asking her to transfer money etc. Crazy technology and super exciting but this is a rabbit hole we just aren't ready for. Just look at how phones evolved over the years. This is V0.1 of AI...

Think how many calls are already recorded for "training and quality purposes"... Those are huge data sets which these models can use as training data. People should have the right to have their recorded data deleted and removed as weights in training systems. For years people "agreed" to the recording of calls for "training and quality" but that was under the impression that those calls were used to train new human staff members and it's not like there was ever an option to opt out of having you call recorded. All those companies have recordings of our voice... Should they be allowed to use those recordings to train AI?

Hello how are you doing?
@YouGuysAreAmazing Жыл бұрын
I mean it‘s good that congress is trying to get an early start by looking into what OpenAI is about, doing and to leg them know that they must make sound decisions. Two things that pop to mind. If ChatGPT uses info off the internet but no longer references data, how is our own creative content that we‘ve uploaded protected? If I find parts of an article I‘ve written, a schematic I‘ve created, code I‘ve written suddenly pop up within OpenAI‘s realm then we have to start talking compensation, especially if the ChatGPT platform is used for professional work. This tech may make you think 3 times before publishing. Just something to think about and keep an eye on in the future. Secondly, though we‘re now starting to toss around the term AI, I think it‘s important to keep in mind that we are - as of yet - not talking about real AI. The term AI has been a bit watered down the past 5 years and is now used to describe many types of learning software. The AI breakthrough has, however, not been made yet and I think it‘s important not to jump the gun and start creating panic on a broad scale. The problem with the term is, the more the media, politicians, people in the tech field use the term AI, the more everyday people will adopt it and the more they will believe we are talking about real AI. This can lead to misinformation and misinterpretation of something that, even if we‘d made great advances, remains science fiction. Therefore, I do not call what ChatGPT does AI and though the company (as it‘s name states) is striving to generate AI. This would be somewhat misleading. Perhaps we should simply call it SP (smarter program) or CLC (Correlation-Learning Code). Unfortunately, it is probably too late to re-baptize the tech since so many have already fallen in love with preemptively naming it that.
@nic.h Жыл бұрын
Machine learning was a much better name for the current state of technology in my opinion, but I stopped fighting that uphill battle a number of years ago. Mass media wants to call it AI so here we are.
@YouGuysAreAmazing Жыл бұрын
@@nic.h True that. At least, even though somewhat preemptive, we‘re talking about it. Once real AI hits (if and when), we‘ll have many other question (eg. ethical) to address.
@nic.h Жыл бұрын
@@YouGuysAreAmazing Yes, one thing I think we can say for sure is that it's going to be a very disruptive technology. It's also quite possible that "real AI" isn't that far away, there is a lot of research going on at the moment and the field is advancing extremely quickly, so we really do need to start having these conversations on the disruptive impact that it's going to have and how to manage the transition. If we crack AGI that also comes with even more ethical questions. Would it be sentient? Is it ethically reasonable to make a sentient intelligence into what is essentially going to be slaves? Can we aligning it to guarantee it achieve desired outcomes safely? The AI alignment problem is a technical issue which we don't currently have a solution for. Whatever the case, it's going to be an interesting ride I think.
@jonhmm160 Жыл бұрын
That's an interesting take. I'm guessing your Idea of AI is what most people in the tech field would be calling AGI? I think the reason it is called AI is because these programs are "kinda" smart and although they don't seem to use logic in the way Humans are able too, they do have quite a good grasp on abstract ideas. They also demonstrate knowledge about how many of these ideas interact with each other which is quite impressive. What I'm getting at is that it's quite reasonable to say they display some level of intelligence. I can see tough that if ones only reference for AI is trough sience fiction then it can be a bit confusing. But I think another important point is that there is a real chance that these Large language model AIs like ChatGPT could become full fledge AGI's at some point if they became even stronger. So even if ones concept of AI is of some God Like super smart entity, then it could be appropriate to atleast look at ChatGpt as potential Agi so just calling them smart programs feels like it's underselling the impact this technology could and probably will have.
@nic.h Жыл бұрын
@@jonhmm160 the way chatgpt currently works doesn't allow for it to learn. It is trained by OpenAI and released, what it knows at that moment is it's limitation, it doesn't learn from experience and can't with it's current structure. It does have some limited memory with a conversation with it, which it can use for further inferences, but it forgets as soon as the conversation is over. Anyway there will need to be some large changes to ChatGPT and other LLM to allow on the fly learning which is a requirement for AGI in my opinion.

@@deniseproxima2601 Money serves as a means to facilitate the transfer of wealth, rather than being wealth itself. Let me illustrate a potential future scenario involving Artificial General Intelligence (AGI). In this hypothetical future, traditional employment no longer exists due to the absence of jobs, but every individual has access to AGI surpassing the combined intelligence of all current humans. This highly advanced AGI could discover a method to increase food production by tenfold per acre of land. Consequently, a single person would be capable of meeting their family's annual food requirements within the confines of their own backyard. Remarkably, this scenario leads to an augmentation of wealth without any additional money entering the economy or the creation of jobs in the conventional sense. AGI possesses the potential to induce deflation, consistently driving down the prices of goods and services to the level of raw materials. Eventually, even the cost of raw materials could theoretically decline. Granted, there may be a transition period that necessitates careful consideration, alongside security concerns that need to be addressed.
