Great videos, laughed like crazy with the meta moving chatgpt's pieces. You should fine-tune them a little bit more so they don't do illegal moves, unless you want them, in which case, it's fine. The reason why they hallucinate this hard is cause they forget where the pieces remained where and what they're playing, so you'll need to find a way to remind them in every prompt what pieces are on the board and what you're playing.

ChatBots seem to have a decent grasp of openings, then they fall off a cliff. I think it's because in the training material most openings are pretty commonly played, then you get into a new situation and as they have no intuition or situational awareness, they just start moving randomly. Some AIs might be "patched" to follow the rules, or run a real chess bot in the background, but as far as pure LLMs go, this is the best you can achieve.

Played a game with ChatGPT today, and it was the first game where i actually got it to play by the rules the whole game. It tried to make a couple illegal moves but I just told it that they were illegal and it corrected itself right away. It seems to be pretty good positionally but just hangs pieces for no reason occasionally, i assume it just has no "board vision"/can't really remember what's where on the board, hence the occasional illegal move and hanging of a piece. So for example meta plays Ra1, and because of that ChatGPT forgets there's a pawn on a1 and jumps it too.
