A perfect pen falls in love with a single hand. Its love is lifelong and loyal. In the hands of another the pen will dry up; it will scratch out words and turn everything into an unintelligible, distraught mess. It simply isn't fair to put it through that pain, so choose your pen well. And you have chosen your Visconti well, Steve. Thank you for sharing your love for these pens and their company.

This is a good series to start. My wife recently passed away. She was not a fountain pen person, but always thought the Visconti pens were attractive. She liked to watch your video when you would review a Visconti. Because of her thinking Visconti pens were attractive, I’ve decided to start buying Visconti. Thanks Stephen for helping to create a memory for me.

What gets discovered when you go down the fountain pen path is they are not just about how they write but also the stories we add to them. Your grandfather’s history of using them is lovely and has influenced all your pens. Enjoy the journey.

Stephen, this video is great. I do find it interesting how "our" pens end up having connections to what happened in our lives at different stages. The back stories are always fascinating and fun to hear. In a sense we "travel" with you. Thanks for sharing and no, this series will not be boring!

I have only come to discover your videos over the last 4 to 6 months, and I have to be honest, it was like discovering not a new friend, but an old one. Your wit and intelligence are reminiscent of the personal friends I most strongly connect with and appreciate, and watching your videos is like having a conversation with one of them. So, yes, please continue these. Many of your revelations are similar to my own fountain pen stories, and I genuinely enjoy hearing about them, and you. All the best.

Thank you Stephen . Excellent video , i love the background stories for each pen which gives an insight into why you love them so much. I think pens do have personalities and if there are specific memories which are attached to certain pens, like you say, this makes them even more meaningful. I've always enjoyed the content you produce , your honesty and your passion make your videos compelling I often go back and watch your older videos , i have some particular favourites which i love (e.g. The inkcyclopedia videos, amongst others) . Thanks you again for doing what you do.

Thank you for the discussion. I enjoyed hearing your thoughts on your collection, especially the Opera Master. Many people use the term 'grail pen' to describe a pen merely want to purchase. Stephen, indeed the video was not only useful but also reveal why fountain pens are so personal to each of us. I am so proud of the fact that you and I have the same Opera Master in Tortoise that you inspired me to get by your love of it. Now I think of Stephen Brown when I am writing with mine. It is more than the pens themselves for sure! Thanks for your videos!

Hey there Stephen.. great work my friend.. I say friend because as I've written before.. I found your videos back in 2012 or so as my Mom was in end stage emphysema.. basically, I was Mom' emotional support and my older brother was handling more of the daily meds and such. Our Dad had suddenly passed the year prior.. I've told you this but watching your videos at night when I'd get home from work and running to Mom's house.. and taking care of my own two young sons.. I've cone to think of you as a family member.. just not that guy who likes velvet and related tactile lovelies! Thank you younger brother! Very best to you and the lovely and talented Azizah! I like this format a lot. Pens are a very personal thing for a lot of people, many have memories attached to them. I like hearing about other people's pens, the history, why they bought it, what their ridiculous reason is to hang on to a bad pen even. It gives you a unique view into a person and what he/she attaches value to for what reasons. Very well done sir, more please. Groeten uit België :-)

Thank you Stephen ~ one of the reasons I love fountain pens is because I buy them carefully and purposefully. Each of mine has a story, a reason it has made it's way into my life (some of which have been yours). My pens are practical, but special too. I really enjoyed hearing about your Visconti pens and look forward to your next video.

For those of us who follow your (pen) work, this is a pleasure because we learn about your emotional attachments to the pens. But simply from the perspective of someone who is seriously researching his next $$$ purchase, we gain additional information about the differences among them. In my own case, I really have a hard time using a thin or small pen, and so large pens are of greater interest. I had not realized how much larger the SpeakEasy is than the Master, or by extension, pens of similar size. Thanks!

Enjoyed this snippet, particularly as you gave the emotional connection to your pens. I too love Visconti pens, which is not a universal feeling I believe! They are things of great beauty and when properly tuned are immaculate writers. I use them as daily writers and often receive complimentary remarks, although not many people have heard of the brand. I tell them it's the Italian Mont Blanc but with passion!

Hi Stephen, on my Speakeasy I use the Kaweco tiny squeeze converter, I find it fits very snugly onto the post, its easy to fill if you use the travelling inkwell and let gravity do its bit, just a couple of squeezes and the converter is full. I've found it's the best way of refilling the converter, unfortunately the converter won't hold a large capacity but it's a viable option. I've tried many other converters like you and most won't fit. I wish Visconti had reduced the 6ml alcohol compartment and made it 4ml and allowed for greater ink capacity, especially seeing as it came with a hip flask. That said it's a superb pen and my medium nib writes gushingly wet!

Have two Parkers, a fp and pencil. Both are 51series. Remind me of my deceased uncle who helped to rear me as my father, a Marine, went to war and later returned to civilian life. My uncle was a kindly man and I miss him to this day, sixty years later. My father was a good man who had to adjust to life aside from the military. Civilian airspace work.

I love your reviews very much but I love to know your emotions in relation to each pen even more. I agree with you when you say that a pen is not a pair of shoes but something personal, so I really appreciate your decision of let us know this personal thoughts and feelings. At my eyes this makes you in a certain way more friendly and familiar, even without loosing your very high competency about pens. Just one more thing: you’re a really good storyteller.
