Lovely pen. I own one as I collect - and write - Waterman's from 1900 to now. I own quite some other brands yet all Waterman pens have something that makes this my top brand,

Have exact same pen. My opinon: My nib was aligned but not a big fan of Moon Man \ Majohn nibs. I like the ridges on the grip of a TWSBI Diamond ALR vs. the smooth grip of the T1. However the price is more. You can buy a replacement nib and still be below the price of a TWSBI. I like the pen after replacing the nib.

Thanks for the thoughtful and sensitive address of this topic, Stephen. The salient point may be that whether or not a person tossing nasty comments (I get plenty of them from people who know more and who know less about numerous topics) is better informed, the comments can hurt, and hurt can result in anger. However, your value is not defined nor measured by the judgements of others. Feelings are our own property, not the province of others. If some pen collector shows off a real rarity and expects adulation, but I post a joke, he has every right to call me names, rant about irrelevance even after I've pointed out the connection between his thermometer and my story. He does not, however, have the power to make me self-identify as the insulting terms he has tossed at me. I have a right to be angry, but honestly, it won't help him agree, like me, or accept the joke as what it is. Nor am I obligated to ooh and aah over the thing. In balance, his self-measure is not defined by whether or not I say his item is brilliant and, by association, so is he. As Hannah Horowitz, creator of the advice column So Help Me, Hannah, and an expert on feelings and unexpected reactions and self-esteem screw ups will tell you (or, in this instance, me) "Judy, remember what an opinion is like? An opinion is like an asshole: nearly everyone has one. If you didn't have an asshole, you'd really be full of shit." She's absolutely correct, as usual. Ok, I'm finished now.

I’ve been watching you for years and find you extremely interesting and knowledgeable, so don’t ever change. I love the cadence of your speech which makes you even more engaging. You are correct, all fountain pen collectors are probably a bit strange because we reminisce about the past, appreciate the finer things in life, and want to slow down.

I have had a mixed bag with moonman nibs . One was perfect, two were misaligned. I have two 9019's, a M and an EF - and the EF lays down a broader line than the M. But, their standard nibs are swappable for Jowo nibs, so if you get a bad nib you can swap them out rather inexpensively!

On my cheap pens the nib seems to be easier to adjust because the metal is cheap. More expensive pen the nib just bounces back to where it was before. That's what I found. Or perhaps I should try to be firmer.

It seems petty to review the pen with a misaligned nib, which is not aventure of the pen.
@sbrebrown
@sbrebrown 16 сағат бұрын
No, it isn't petty. If companies have poor QC, that deserves to be made public, just like I have been doing with Visconti for years. People get very upset when I do this to Chinese brands, but they have no qualms whatsoever with me doing this to Italian brands. Really strange, right?

I had one a few years back and I liked it quite a bit but after less than a year the piston broke. I used it as a "eyedropper" for a while and then the section unglued/cracked and came off entirely. In the trash can from there. I never replaced it because I liked the old MOONMAN logo as opposed as Mahjong

I have two Moonman Vanishing Point similar pens Both are superb writers, butter smooth, a little on the wet side so the 0.4mm is a little thicker to write with Highly recommended

I'm new to the hobby. I didn't know the 80% pens from China need some kind of self-manual nib tuning/polishing. Nice pen btw (for the price)!

That's 'cause they generally don't. Most Jinhao and Hongdian nibs write really well out of the box and they're dirt cheap. I wish I could say the same about the German-made Bock nibs.

Eighty percent? Where did you get that figure? Or did you make it up? Most new pens, regardless of where they were made and the location and brand of the nib notwithstanding, benefit from some nib tweaking, either at time of receipt or later in their lives. Some pens are famous for needing repeated adjustment, and some brands from European companies are generally known for their poorly adjusted nibs, though the pens are costly. Pleas explain what "self-manual" is.

@limmoblack I'm sorry I have offended you so much that you feel a need to obsessively return to my videos and leave whiny comments about a person you don't know. You were unlucky with that nib. I've got two (one in a grey finish) and the nibs write very well and are a bit wetter than yours seemed to be. I've got a few diffeent Moonman pens and several other Chinese pens. They're good value and I'm very happy with them. I can't say the same for Chinese pens I bought twenty years ago which all fell apart or leaked. It was as if the different parts were manufactured without any quality control by people in different factories who had never met or even spoken. It's very different today, the Chinese manufacturers have really upped their game.

I have this pen and mine wrote fine right out of the box it came in! You can also swap in a Narwhal nib unit if you don’t like the Moonman one. I do find the Moonman nibs are sometimes a bit dry and stif but very smooth.

I've had the moonman t1 for a number of years now and it's one of my favorite inexpensive pens. it's writes really well, holds a TON of ink, and looks rather nice. I use it as a desk pen in the office. my only real gripe is the lack of a clip. I enjoy putting my pens in my shirt pocket when I carry them around, and engaging the clip with the top of my pocket, but this one flips around if stored there. I keep mine on a 3d printed desk stand on my desk at my workplace, and works rather well there. I did NOT have the alignment issue illustrated here, and mine feels writes rather smooth and wet.

Having had many years of faithful service from my Optima 360 Monviso with 18k stub nib, Aurora make fantastic pens. I bought one of their cargo backpacks in July for EDC, in and out of work. The product is made of lightweight materials and apparently sprayed with a DWR chemical/garment stiffener, which wore off by November, leaving it looking and carrying like a floppy bag of laundry. Other probs-- Mesh bottle holders are marginal, barely tall enough to keep a water bottle or 16oz travel cup secured. Sternum straps are attached using snaps, which easily open and fall off when not being used. No scuff guard on the bottom surface. Zippers are not water resistant. Their solution was to sew a storm flap over the two for the main compartment. The others (specifically the two small elex pockets) have none. Luckily I bought mine on sale, because tomorrow it's going to Goodwill. Won't buy another EB backpack. Very disappointed.

I have a few Chinese pens. In fact, out of my small collection of 15, 10 are cheap Chinese pens, and if those 10, 8 are really excellent. Even compared to my Pelikan and Pilot 823. But what worries me is how they manage to make them so cheaply. I strongly suspect that the labour conditions of the people making them are probably not great. And there is the possibility that it is exploitative and involves children. Sadly, that’s very very common in China. I’m starting to think that I’ll refrain from buying more Chinese pens for that reason, even though they are genuinely excellent pens.

Had mine for a couple years I had to super glue the clip more or less after a couple days as I realised it was drying out the nib big time as it lets in so much air . It's a nice writer but can be picky with ink I think sometimes It takes a while to get going -even with the superglue air fix--- maybe I need to adjust it . I don't post this pen it upsets the balance for me . Could you recommend any flex nibs that would fit this pen any for under £50 ?

A penmaker in England who is called Mr. Samad made me a handful of pens in the most interesting materials and finishes. One has shell motifs all over, another glows in the dark, a third is said to contain actual particles of pomegranate. Samad, Samai, surely not the same person or group? No, I thought not.

Interesting video Dr.Brown. The extra lighting is a bonus too. I have been interested in getting a pocket pen and this m2 got my attention. Penultimate dave featured the red/orange with the gold color clip and nib on his channel.I like the stealth black better as it is subdued. I am curious if the nibs on the kaweco and hong dian are friction fit and are swappable. If so that would solve the choices available problem. I would get a m2 and a kaweco stub or double broad unit ,I'd be all over that in a minute.

Hey Stephen This is why I enjoyed your videos on stoicism. It helped me dealing with feedback with this phrase: "Are they correct? Then why are you upset. They're right. Are they wrong, then why are you upset. They're wrong." A bit of genuine feedback (something that Brian Goulet struggled with as well): listen to the sound on this video at 12:55 and on. You'll hear what I mean. Minor thing though. I have the same microphone as you do, so I know what I'm talking about😂😂 Groet'n uut Twente!
