I have a carbon Engage with a stylus on the end - very useful on my iPhone touch screen. You have to make sure you click away the nib or you get a large ink leek in your top pocket..if you fill them with ink, don’t leave them unused for long periods. The tips can be hard to clean out. Soak for several days in Monteverde pen flush.

18 karat gold? I don't believe it is gold plated. I have a Jinhao X750. It has an all silver colored nib that says 18KGP. I don't think they know what 18KGP means. English isn't there first language. Chinese is there first language.

I have the Asvine V200 with the medium #6 Asvine nib and it is a very smooth writer. Just got back from 2 weeks away and it wrote well strait out of the case, no hard starting or skipping. How much better do the other pens write for basically double the money starting price to un-obtanium and un-affordable? Does the Conid write $1,000 better than the Asvine? At least with other products like cars we can see and feel where the price difference justification comes from, not so sure about fountain pens unless you are talking about some of the rare air like the Montblanc, Monte Grappa, St Dupont, Pelican, Tacia and Namiki etc... special editions. For me, the proof of the pen is mostly in the nib and feed, how smooth, bouncy and wet it is, not the filling systems. The video was great and it was fun to see the demonstrator shootout.

Stephen - (at time-stamp 4:48) where-ever did you find such a tiny, miniature, Pilot Metropolitan. I've never seen one so small! It almost looks like a toothpick. I love your logo on the top and on the bottom, the pen just wouldn't be yours without them! And ... _wow_ ... does it make your ink look beautiful !!!

This pen is HUGE! Obscene is an apt description. I do not have such large hands as you. The BB nib corresponds with the size of the pen. I do appreciate that you could get a special pen like this one. The only other company that would customize a pen is Edison pen. Truly a treasure

Regarding the size of nibs, since it is usually the tipping that contacts the writing surface and delivers the ink that makes the impression, or the expression if one prefers, the size of the nib is irrelevant. In any size there can be variation in the relevant factors, however, such as softness, wetness, smoothness, and so forth, but that is not much dependent on nib size. As a possible reflection of the wish to show off by or when using a fountain pen, it might be advantageous to have a big nib. This, though it reflects my own bad taste, may be a phallic symbol. In modern western communities there is the notion that bigger is more powerful, more desirable, somehow better. Personally, I have not found this to be true. Nor, it would appear, did the ancients. The Hellenists created sculptures of gods and heroes whose penises were small. This was believed to reflect courage, wisdom, character, fertility, intelligence, value as a husband. If sperm travels a longer distance to impregnate a mate, the provider must be stronger, as well. In contrast, satyrs and domestic animals might have larger organs, but they spent time lazing about, drinking, dancing, engaging in useless pursuits. Does this have anything to do with the current fad for big nibs? I don't have any idea. Feel free to delete the entire sermonette if it offends.

It’s odd that the Bock nib cost so much for you in Canada. On the US Amazon, the pen is $48 with the Asvine nib and just $10 more with the Bock nib. The Asvine nib comes in EF, F, M and the Bock in EF, F, M and B. I am undecided as to which nib to get. I have had good experiences with Asvine nibs but have never had a Bock nib. I want a smooth, wettish nib with a bit of flex/bounce if possible and most of all, effortless, comfortable writing for pages and pages. I’d appreciate any input on which of these two nibs might be better.

Thank you for the comparison. I do have the Opus 88 and the Asvine V200. You have to get used to the girth of the pen but it is very comfortable with the Omar. I agree the Vac700R has a thin section and was annoying, hence it was sold. The V200 drawback is that you need to do multiple attempts to fill the barrel. So, i remove the section and eyedropper fill it. The Kyseido is nice but I use a penBBS 355 with the same filling system and i can save a lot of money. No gold nib but the stell nib is very smooth. The Conid is way beyond my reach. Could you do a comparison of other similar pens with a lower price point? I think it would be of great interest to many of us.

Is the Bock nib upgrade for a titanium nib? If not that’s a shocking price for the upgrade. A Bock #6 type 250 steel nib and housing is less than £15 (€18) here in the UK. The titanium is £79 (€95).

Very good shootout Dr. Brown!! I own the three more affordable pens in this review (actually my asvine is the p36 wihth bock nib) and I feel the same as you about this pens. Clear demonstrators are very appealing to me. The Opus 88 Omar is the one i like most for its simplicity in both its design and filling sistem. Greetings from Mallorca

Interesting video. I have each of those pens with the exception of the Conid, and I'm not likely to get one either. I did replace the Asvine nib in my V200 and now an FPR Ultra-Flex took it's place. I was going to change the nib in my Omar, but ended up switching nibs in my Demonstrator. In place of the standard Opus nib, I installed a Pilot Parallel 2.4 mm nib. It's such a different writing experience.

I'm not in the market for a new pen now and given my $ restrictions I'd likely go for the Asvine. My current 'main ' pen is a TWSBI 580 Rose Gold piston filler with a fine nib.
