Hi Guys- I live where you do and go to the same beaches. I started looking for fossils but what I have collected are loads of flint arrowheads, a couple of hand axes, loads of flint scrapers and pottery, Roman and Iron age. I found a fabulous walnut, still whole and completely fossilised. I laughed when you said you talked about finding stuff you were not looking for because my dream is to find an ammonite, and I have still to find one! Happy hunting guys :))

Greetings from Denmark. The yellow stone is probably calcedony. In Denmark we have two shades of calcedony, a gray one and a yellow one. Calcedony can replace/fill the core of fossils such as sea urchins and brachiopods. I have a small yellow brachipod which shines like amber. I hope to visit your beach one day. Happy fossil hunting!

Lovely piece but I might have some bad news. Bubbles point to... glass. Usually that's waste product from iron smelting but also post production rejects and waste from glass works. As cliffs are washed out it exposes quite a few of dumps. I have quite a few different pieces ranging in colour. By nature, none of miclocristaline quartz mineral have bubbles in them... Hardness of ~7. Seems right to me. I was fulled by that one immediately. Also thought what a lovely piece of amber 😆 That pudding stone 😍

I was wondering about those bubbles I should have got some close ups of the Amber imposter but was fascinated by the pudding stone that I forgot.

Not bad news at all every time I see it I recall the the day, location, and moment I found it glowing away in the sun on top of a hump of stones. Makes me smile every time its called amber. What ever it is I would be happy to find more. Thank you for your informative comment.

@@carlnichols1500 I have found an exciting looking piece in Essex. Blue and green banding and opal like lustre. Non translucent at all. I was stumped for a while, especially that the location just has standard 99% chert nodules 1% quartz pebble characteristics. Turns out that at some point the bridleway must have been fixed with slag glass. Looks like this Victorian blue marble like glass. Those little bubbles were giveaway, which was later confirmed when I got back there and found more pieces that bore some more obvious production marks... Still, it proudly sits on a shelf and brightens my collection. I might think about polishing now 😉 Lovely finds Carl! I hope our paths will cross one day!
