I’m very excited about today’s interview. I feel very blessed to be talking with Mr. Peter Freestone, who was Freddie Mercury’s personal assistant for about 12 years! As you know I’m a HUGE Queen fan- they’re one of the reasons why I started making music!
I remember sitting with headphones on listening to Queen’s ‘A Night At The Opera’ at 8 years old being blown away with what I was hearing. That feeling is why I get up every day to make the best music I can!
Peter and I were connected by one of our mutual friends, Gordon McNeil!

Hi Friends, I feel truly blessed to be able to talk to Pete Freestone. Peter was very gracious to spend time talking with us about his friendship with Freddie Mercury. He paints a portrait of a very private person, a true artist who expresses himself so well that millions of us felt like we were so connected to him. Listen out for Peter’s explanation of ‘Love Of My Life’, it changed my whole view of the song. Please leave any comments and questions you may have below and have a marvellous time my friends!

Totally agree with Peter about Love of my life and being written from Mary's point of view. And to think that she actually stood till the end like the song implies...tells you so much about the strength of that relationship. Long live true love!!!!

Just LOVE this ~ and QUEEN of course :-) Back in 1986, seven of my friends and myself was driving from our hometown (Aalesund @ the west coast of Norway). It took us two days to drive. Listening only to Queen music (of course) and went to the Isstadion (Ice Stadium) in Stockholm, for the: "It's A Kind Of Magic Tour". The Swedish band "Treat" started, then Mr. Gary Moore (RIP), and then the greatest band in the world (after The Beatles) QUEEN. I'm really HAPPY I'm so old that I experienced Freddie Mercury Live, together with Roger, John and Brian :-D Peace, LOVE & MUSIC....!!! B-)

What a fantastic interview! As with many of us, Queen and especially Freddie have a special place in my life. I still listen to his records - quite often even - but i have to admit that it's a painful experience every time. I have to cry every time the record is over because it reminds me of the day Freddie died. It was a real shock for me back then. I can't say exactly why, but apparently the music and especially this person impressed and influenced me deeply! Thank you so much Warren and Peter! 💗

I’m so glad Peter told us about the song “love of my life” being from Mary’s perspective. I’ve always thought this was the case, now it’s confirmed. Freddie was Mary’s love of her life and he hurt her. Freddie wrote it for Mary, through her eyes.

When I recently watched a interview with Freddie from 1986. The way he talks bout her. It's so unusual, you see love, not only friendship. A very unusual kind of love but very deep.
@taffyholvenstot8297
@taffyholvenstot8297 5 жыл бұрын
I had figured out a while ago that that song was really written from Mary Austin's point of view, which in itself is something so unusual for Freddy to have done and been able to conceive. Kudos right there to him. I read somewhere if true that she asked him at one point even though they were no longer together to be the father of her baby and he said no. I think Mary really got the short end of that stick, although you could say she willingly went along with it. But I think she truly truly loved him and was devoted to him but really put her life on hold to accommodate him. Her marriages seemed to not be successful perhaps because she still truly with only devoted to Freddy. Just my point of view as a woman.

The Love of my Life thing was special cause after listening to the words and seeing the movie that's exactly what I thought and to hear Peter confirm my thoughts was nice. I loved the movie!!! And as Peter said its a movie so pple need to quit criticizing it because its not completely true to life. Just enjoy the music and great performances. Also loved the bit about Freddie playing with the cats...obviously 🐱 Thx again.

WoW! I never thought this way about Love Of My Life. Maybe he's right, we'll never know for sure, because it works in both ways. But, God what a deep unusual love the shared if so! It's such an emotional song. I so wish Mary Austin talked again but it's been years since we don't see her.

I was thinking about that "Love of my Life" i thought it doesn't sound like Freddie coz he is the one who hurt or left Mary, now it made sense.

Suelyn Penequito Actually it I think it can be both ways. She was the one who left home after he admitted he had been cheating on her.

Dina Escoto So you’re saying Brian May and Peter Freestone are both liars?
@martarego9646
@martarego9646 5 жыл бұрын
Dina Escoto And who told you so since Freddie himself never say a word about it. Don’t come with John Reid saying so because he’s the same who said Mary said him she had won in the end . He absolutely hated her like many others.

I also luv the song love of my life and like you I never realized it was from Mary's point of view. After Peter said that I thought ohhh yeah that makes sense. Now I look at it a whole new way

Thanks for sharing this Warren. Like many people, Queen is one of those bands who really kicked off my love of music and they were, & are, all ridiculously talented. Loved the film.... however historically inaccurate it was, as you said, it was made with a lotta love.

Everyday when I'm getting ready for work I think: what would Freddie think of all of his fame nowadays in 2023 or 2024? Or how he would be with social media today ND how huge he would be or how things have changed being gay? I'm constantly thinking about Queen and how big they still te and if Freddie's was still alive how he would use it? Things we will never know. It's sad actually.

Peter always speaks positively, respectfully and lovingly about Freddie. While it's true Peter was paid to be Freddie's personal assistant you can tell he was more than "just an employee" to Freddie. I believe Freddie had a keen sense of people and he knew Peter would be a faithful and trustworthy friend as well as a personal assistant.
