Oh man hiding your yt channel from everyone is so relatable! When i used to do CoD montage editing in After Effects in 7th grade i hid it from EVERYONE for years. At 15 i got really good and started selling my edits but my parents COULD NOT find out so i created a proxy paypal that i used solely to get paid for editing, a nd spent all that money on videogames so my mom wouldnt find out lol. Those videos are still on my channel (this one) just unlisted. Saying you became a youtuber really does come with a negative connotation today and with a ton of prejudice. Also, what a wonderful way to start a day Jimmy, this episode was amazing! Hillary is awesome.

Great chat guys, I always miss these due to work but its always a good time. Allen as a DM would either be complete chaos or the most structured campaign ever, I guess we'll see haha. While I've gotten better with sticking to TBRs I'm re-embracing mood reading. I delayed resuming Malazan cuz Prince of Nothing has been stuck in my head and now I'm reading Aspect-Emperor and I refuse to read more than 2 Fantasy series (I'll make an exception for standalones) at a time ever again. I also didn't plan on reading the Endymion books for another few weeks but on a whim I picked them up and I'm loving it so far. I read Warlord Chronicles on a whim and devoured and more importantly LOVED those books.

I always pronounced Jasnah as Yasnah - in my language we pronounce J as Y, and the word jasna (sounds exactly like yasnah) means bright/light, which makes perfect sense given the content of the books. On other hand, most fantasy names I have contact with are ment to be pronounced according to the english language rules - at times it's awkward cause I've read a book but have no idea what characters and places someone's talking about😅

Malazan fans are very forgiving on pronunciation as everyone does it in their own way. Will be very interested in Bookborn's view on Malazan. Cool discussion. About adaptations, as long as the story is great (and consistent), the series will get traction at the end. See Starship Troopers.

2:30:00 I love taking notes about books I read tho I never show them anyone. It's just makes me get character's names and locations easy in my head and I like to also connect some dots (I'm not big on theory crafting but smaller things like some character might be mentioned and some books later a character that doesn't know him mentions that someone that looks so and so was there and then I write sth like "ey that sounds like Character X. What is he doing here in location Y" sth along those lines and I'm also get some pride in seeing small twists so yeah that's why I started to write notes and I get more out of the reading experience doing that

I'd love to see you two discuss Grimdark. I haven't thought fully indepth as to why Dark and Grimdark Fantasy appeals to me the way that it does, but I can definitely give you a truncated short answer: Aside from the Percy Jackson books, BBCs Merlin show and the Harry Potter films I wasn't really into Fantasy all that much as a kid. I guess the Darren Shan/Larten Crepsley books count but they're more horror. ASOIAF was my first adult Fantasy. I didn't even read the Hobbit until around A Storm of Swords so I would've been about 18, maybe. I read those books incredibly slowly in some cases over the course of years. Finishing school, partying, college etc. So darker types of Fantasy is mostly my jam and then I finally read First Law and Gentleman Bastard which my Mum and Uncles were recommending for years and I realised just how much I was missing out cuz they were recommending them since I was at least 15.

Speaking of martial arts... Jimmy, I don't know if I told you this. But Matthew Stover is a serious martial arts fan and he practiced a lot of different styles himself. His hand to hand combat is one of the best things about Acts of Caine. The characters are insane and he takes a huge risk with each book without losing the core of the series. It's kind of somewhere between Abercrombie and Bakker, snappy dialogue and philosophy especially in the later parts. And he does sth with his main character in the second book which I know you will probably especially appreciate.

Love you both, and new to your channels! You can thank Allen's Book Jeopardy for allowing me to find you. (You probably won't read this anyway, since I'm 2 weeks late on viewing.) Did Hillary say she's an engineer? Because her rant about falling speed was way off. 9.81 is the acceleration of gravity, not velocity, so it's meters per second per second. So after one second, about 10 m/s, after the next second, about 20 m/s, and so on until terminal velocity is reached because of air resistance. So in the D&D turn of 6 seconds, you would have covered about 210m of vertical drop. Normally I wouldn't correct people, but since the example was of her "correcting" someone, I thought she might smile.
