Love your channel, Sarah! You're very well-spoken and your voice is great to listen to. And thanks to you I picked up Dresden again after almost a year long break - I've forgotten quite a lot and it was confusing at first, but I love the atmosphere of these series! + I can't believe it's been 8 months since your first appearance on Chatting with Nutts! After that episode I immediately subscribed to you

CONFEDERACY OF DUNCES is such an amazing book! It’s genuinely laugh-out-loud funny and I love that Sarah brought up this book. It is really painful and so annoying and Ignatius is so intolerable! But it’s such a great book to discuss bc it’s philosophical and deep. It is so true how this book is objectively good, but hard to read at times. Sadly the author John Kennedy Toole killed himself and his mother worked really hard to get this published. I’m glad she did bc it is a book that has stayed with me.

Michael Carpenter isn’t just one of the best characters in fantasy, he’s also one of the best foils to a main character. Michael is so freaking different from Harry, but it’s their differences that show why the other is so important. Without Harry, Michael would seem like some self righteous guy. And without Michael, Harry would be a lot more morally questionable. Having someone like Michael show faith in Harry, and vice versa, really makes them both shine brighter.

Jimmy, if you haven't seen GRRM's 'In Memoriam' about Zelazny, you should definitely read it. I think Zelazny was better than anyone else at writing prose which is poetic without being pretentious. And I agree with others that some of his standalones are great, particularly Lord of Light and A Night in the Lonesome October. And then there's Creatures of Light and Darkness, which is completely insane

I will read War of Light & Shadow, eventually. But after getting caught up on Bakker's Second Apocalypse and finishing Malazan (currently on Toll the Hounds) I'm gonna need a break from that kind of Fantasy for awhile. I will read Wurts' standalones and shorter series tho. Plus I've been putting off my ASOIAF re-read, Black Company, Dark Tower and the rest of RotE for long enough (I'm actually considering re-reading Farseer)

Dear Jimmy, check out The Accursed Kings by Maurice Druon if you haven't already. GRRM says himself it's the original GoT and nobody ever talks about it because it was originally written in French. Read the series myself in French and it was impossible not to see the influences. Hope the English translation holds up. Thanks for streaming this with Sarah, I always look forward to both of your videos!

I really think you might dig the culture series by Iain Banks, I used to read them as a pallet cleanser. The best of all is that they're stand alone. The books tackle different themes, so you just need to search for one that interest you and enjoy, my suggestion would be to start with the second or third one, so you can take the grasp of the series.

(I'm making notes as I listen so I don't spam the comments, I'm still catching up on CWN) When is the Mary Stewart group read? 🤣 My hardcovers are ready to be read. Holy crap someone else has read Wizardry and Wild romance! It is a must buy. Epic Pooh is a great essay. The list is fantastic. He was the main inspiration for my channel. Too much fantasy gets ignored from that era. Another great episode and another awesome booktuber to follow!

Id describe Lawrences writing as economically poetic. As in he tends to write some purpley lines from time to time depending on the scenr, and he has some of my favorite quotes in the genre, but he never goes overboard and clogs the word count. Most of his books are in fact under 500 pages, in thr 300-450 page count. And he has a real knack with openjng lines, like all of them are fucking awesome imo, my favorite being Prince Of Fools opening lines. And i think if you want to start Lawrence starting with Prince Of Fools would be the best for you Jimmy. The humor and the bbromance of our main 2 leads would be so up your alley. A big kind sweetheart of a viking called Snorri who goes on revenge filled killing sprees when pushed to his limits and a womanizing cowardly prince who hates snorri because hes just too good of a person and it makes him feel bad about himself for the first time in his life, while smorri only sees the best in the other one and always encourages him into beibg a better man, its just so wholesome!
