That 04 Pistons Championship did so much for us in the city of Detroit. It gave us all a surge of confidence and hope that was needed at the time in our city. Much love and respect Chauncey. What was happening in the city them times?
@mobetta20922 жыл бұрын
@@ceo8679 It was kinda gloomy on the sport scene (Red Wings won but no disrespect, hockey is a Canadian sport that doesn’t garner the bragging rights nationally amongst American Sports Fans like winning a NBA, NFL, or MLB Championship) and also the city in general, including the downtown area, was not a desirable destination. Once the 2004 Pistons won, it was definitely a surge of confidence (we were in the finals again in 2005 and in contention until losing in the ECF against the Cavs), and in 2006 the Tigers were in the World Series, and in 2007 we hosted the Super Bowl and our city’s of decades of long overdue revitalization began.

He was sitting a few spots down from us at the bar with another dude (this was before he was a household name and recognizable in the city unless you were a serious basketball fan like me and my guys were). I remember he was in a Pelle with some Cartiers (which was the style back then) and my homie and I acknowledged him and his partner, and chopped it up about basketball briefly…Chauncey and his homie was really cool. Then after winning the championship in 2004, a quiet guy I worked with who also worked in the Palace told me that he was at a crowded Buffalo Wild Wings and Chauncey came in with many people swarming him. He says Chauncey noticed him and came to where he and his friends were and talked for awhile and left after getting his food. He said after that, girls were suddenly interested in them 😂

Even before his first game he was complaining about not starting when Rip Hamilton had already proven to be a championship starter in this very organization…despite all of that, Rip volunteered to allow Iverson to start in order to keep friction within the organization down.
