This an AWESOME video. Some people would disagree to compare the two fixtures,...but this just shows that the Intimadators can probably be right up there with the Big boys!! Who would have thought they would both be equally bright? Again great Video. Thanx for sharing!

I like the way you start the video by going straight to the product. Some guys wanna talk to the camera with a lot of extra verbal fluff before they get started.

Thanks for the kind words brother! I have had the chance to use them for a couple of gigs now. They are a nice addition to the show.

Thanks man! I'm not a big talker, so might as well get straight to the point.

Your best bet would be a ROBE Color Spot 575 moving light or brighter. These lights would be able to do a medium venue. It really depends on what you are using these for. Hope that helps

Thanks Marty. I still wouldn't give up my Design Spots, but I think these Intimidators are going to work very nicely in my show. Each light has a function the other won't do. But never replacing a bulb, power consumption, and size are a big plus for the Intimidators. I have a few shows coming up next week. I'll put up some videos to show how they work out.

the lights that I have just invested in are a pair of PR SOLO 250s. I am looking at getting another pair

They are holding up great. I still love them. I think they are a great compliment to my Design Spots. Comparing the two is kind of like apples and oranges. Both have functions the other doesn't. But I would say the Design Spot is smoother and has more functions. But the Intimidator is smaller uses less power and is easier to fly. You get what yo pay for with the Designs. More bang for the buck with Intimidators.

Hope all is well Fat Gingah. So here we are 6 years later! How are the lights still coming along? Are you still using both at your gigs?

Thanks! Doing these videos really isn't my thing, but I thought this would help others with the same questions I had. I hope this helped you out.

Looks good. I'm wondering if you didn't have it in focus. You have to focus it via dmx. Good vid!

Maybe it's just the video, but judging by the hotspots and the light at the lens, the Elation seems much brighter than the LED. While it's not enough to make a big impact, it doesn't look like a good idea to replace msd250 lamps with this LED fixture. Thanks for posting this.

Great Video.. How are the intimidators holding up since your first use? I own 2 design spots pro and wanted to know your opinion on what light is more reliable.

The Intimidator has a focus on it. :-)

How Can i Focus that ?
@MrFunky5512 жыл бұрын
Yes, I did focus it via dmx. I did not however play around with the manual focus at all. So maybe that was the difference. With all that being said, the difference was very minimal. You would only notice it if you were projecting the gobo on a screen or something. If I wasn't sitting there analyzing it, I probably wouldn't have noticed at all. Thanks!

Here are my Intimidators in action. They are the two moving heads down low behind the band.

Lol....I'm not so sure of that. I'm a huge fan of Elation products.

Hahaha...well I would think that someone playing an arena would bring in some bigger hardware. I have used these in some decent sized outdoor venues and they worked out pretty well. Check out one of my videos from March 1st. I am using four Intimidators. They are the middle movers right on top of the light bars. Design Spots are down low.

do you think they are bright enough to use them in a large arena?

I am an AV tech that works for a company that uses 8 of these. They have been a significant pain in the ass. The usual procedure when there's a significant problem with these lights is to send them back to chauvet, but that takes forever, and they arn't even fixed after getting them back, so I finally decided to pull all of them apart and tune them up and look at their innards. Ho- Ly- Shit. So first off, not a completely awful issue, but the bearings on the globos have like, such thin lubrication that it all leaks off of the ball bearings. Had to inject some better stuff into all globo bearings, on all 56 of the globos :| (8 lights * 7 globos) That helped a immensely since the globos would now spin without seizing. Now there's just the problem where the globo spinning gear got worn down by the pre-lubricated seizing globos. This caused some globos not to spin reliably, or at all, because the gear's teeth were no longer long enough to mesh with the gearing on the globos. So I had to disassemble, what a pain in the ass that is, the light to get the globo platter off the stepper motor spindle so I can replace the gear with a new one that I'm ending up having to cast myself. (More on that process below) Then, last, but certainly most worse, is the fact that in every single light, all 5 output smoothing capacitors on the power board (D-K Brand capacitors) Are bulged out. Oh right, and then there are the ones that arn't bulged, but have actually blown their cases clean off, and strewn their paper, electrolyte, and aluminum guts all over the inards of the light. Amazingly enough, 7 out of the 8 lights were still semi-functional despite having such catastrophic failures. So I've ordered 50 new caps from digikey and am waiting for their arrival. So, to cast the new gears, I took a non worn gear out of one of the lights, and used the silicone caulk + corn starch trick to make a dough like substance to make a mold of the gear. This is a very cool process and quite enjoyed it as it is the first time I have implemented it (I've just done this tonight.) To actually cast the new gears I took some liquid nails (typically used as a rubbery polyurethane adhesive) and mixed it with a small amount mineral spirits to make it a bit less viscous so it would flow into the mold well and then poured it in the mold. I also made a second mold and put straight liquid nails in it. I'm letting them sit overnight. I'll post an update when they cure.

The Overengineer I second the issue with the gobos... however I’m more optimistic... mine are 5 years old and still work quite well and I don’t exactly have the frequency of issue you describe . Nothing is modular which makes keeping optical path a pita. FWIW I know this comment is old.
