www.dueling-pia... - In this video, you can learn more about Chauvet's Nimbus low fog machine. It's a great unit to have for weddings during that first dance. The effect is often known as "Dance On A Cloud" and generally has an up-sell of about $300-$400. Of course, that does not come without an investment. The Chauvet Nimbus sells for $1,000. It also has a cart so that it can be easily moved around. The Nimbus cart sells for $80.
The unit uses dry ice, which creates the best kind of low fog. It hangs low to the ground, and because it is made of water molecules, it will not set off smoke detectors, and it does not create a wet residue on the dance floor either.
Dry ice is cheap to purchase. I recommend using pellets as they create the best fog in my opinion. The Nimbus will hold 10 lbs of dry ice in the unit, and uses about 4.5 gallons of water. It will omit fog for 6 minutes of usage which is far longer than any first dance I have ever seen. It can quickly be refilled, and reaches optimal water temperature for operation within 10 minutes.
I hope you'll enjoy my demonstration of the Chauvet Nimbus. If you have any questions, please comment below, and by all means SUBSCRIBE!
I will post more lighting/effect demonstrations and hope that you will find them helpful

Theres a indicating line or marker line made of a light green/yellowish line inside the machine you would need to put the use to know excatly how much water you it needs, when you the inside tray up it would sit just on top of the water. Also Safety, its important to use as much PPE gear as possible when handling Dry Ice, this includes long sleeve shirt, gloves, and goggles or safety glasses. you want to make the funnel of the front of the nimbus is free of anything line foam or plastic to make it doesnt abstruct the fog coming out if you do it can be lethal in the sense of creating a bomb as you mention.

nice video how long will it take me to do a second pass after i have used up all of the first batch of ice 2. how long can the ice stay in the nimbus before it becomes useless

You could do a second pass right away. I still have plenty of hot water left at the end of one pass. As for how long the dry ice can stay in the nimbus before it becomes useless; that depends. If you have heated up the hot water, then you should use the dry ice immediately. It will sublimate quickly. If you don't have any hot water in there, I imagine you could hold it for several hours. But at some point, you'd need to add the hot water, and for that, you'd need to transfer the dry ice out and back in. A styrofoam cooler would be best. Not air tight though.

Video is misleading about the amount of water he puts in. He shows two pots of hot water which is about 2-3 gallons. The machine requires almost 5 gallons of water (fill it up to just below the ice basket in it's raised position) BEFORE the heating element will engage. I thought mine was broke. I sent it in for repair. They tested it and said it was fine. It came back and it didn't work, I sent it back. This time AGAIN they said (without explanation how they arrived at the conclusion) is was operatiing within manufactures guidelines ie it was okay. Thinking idiots, I bought a small Nimbus Jr. And read the directions. And discovered my problem. I was not filling it up FILLING IT UP with water. A small amount will not activate the heater, I believe there is a water float inside. I was the idiot. Now I have two Nimbus units. I fill them UP with water and they work fine. By the way, hot water is preferable but tap water will heat also, it just takes longer. About half an hour for room temp water in the Sr and 15 minutes in the Jr. And this is not like a smoke fog machine, it lies low to the ground but will dissipate faster depending on the HVAC of the room, the warm the room, the better. It suggests dry ice pellets but unless you are in the BIG CITY, you'll mostly find blocks of ice. I use a rubber mallet and smack the ice a couple of times to get smaller bits. You want ice that is about golf ball size, powdered dry ice will just vaporize immediately, you want it to bubble in the hot water. Fog time lasts about 3 minutes and the dry ice COOLS the hot water drastically. Reheat time is about 20 minutes depending on the unit size. Actually I'm buying the ADJ Mister Kool II today, hoping I get the same effect, cheaper cost though it IS chemical water based fog.
