Great video. Only disagreement is value. I think the Chaves wins value. Custom titanium pocket clip vs steel. Complex blade grind that performs better. Hand rubbed. Better cutting geometry with Reate OEM quality for $70. That’s a lot for $70. Great content as always. Keep it up.

I hated the clip on the Chaves. So weird but over time and collecting. Belonging to his group. I have really grown to kinda like it. I have one coming in the mail now. I don’t own a 0562 but do own 5 xm-18s. So we shall see but I am really excited.

Thank you Brian. Your comparisons are as scientific as one can get on subjective matters! Because of your other review on the ZT 0562Ti, I went and bought one. It arrives the day after tomorrow. (Now I'm jonesing for Rick Hinderer's XM-24 with the 4" blade. Crazy, huh? Out of nowhere, I've got this knife bug.)

Chaves all day. Sold my Hinderer non flipper to make room for it and the new liberation. Much better quality, blade, value, and performance imo. I was against the clip at first but once I got one I fell in love with it. So unique and well done, the tension and ramp are great. 0562 is nice tho but the look throws me off and the blade is not a very good slicer for having a slicer grind on it( just throws me off), and I honestly don’t love the look of the clip but it carries good. Great video tho

I would buy this Chavez you have right now for $350 if that was an option. I really love that knife. Unfortunately I can't find one anywhere, so I am going to get the ZT 0562TI tomorrow brand new for $220. I think that is a good deal, and I will be happy for a while. So many great knives out there. It is truly hard to keep up with them all, especially with the cost being so high on most good ones.

I know your Pena Mini Diesel is slightly smaller than these 2 but it wold be interesting to see how it stacked up? Purchased a new ZT 0562CF on Sunday for $212 which will be my 1st ZT and flipper for that matter, should be delivered tomorrow. This vid makes me feel pretty good about the purchase so thank you.

I have that same knife. It gets world's better once you disassemble, clean and lube it. The action also gets way better once it's broken in.

I picked up the 0562TI. Only complaint is the level of slickness on the handle. That Titanium is very smooth and can slip out of your hand. I love the very light weight but just be careful flipping, carving, or push cutting. I’ve nearly dropped it just flipping the blade open.

I thought this was a good video, but my opinion is that the 0562 is clearly the winner overall and in each category. It is as good as the Hinderers I own, but costs hundreds of dollars less. The 0562 deploys the best, has the best sound, and drops shut - not shakes shut. I do not think the design of the Chavez comes close in terms of design.

Breaking it down the way you do, I'd agree with your decision. I have the 0562 with g10 and elmax. Just got the Chaves yesterday. Even if I had the 0562 ti, I'd still pick the Chaves, and I'm not a fan of the clip. The action is superb and that blade...out of this world. The Chaves just comes across as a super high quality piece. P.S. I can't believe you still have that cat scratch mark on your hand. Has it been months?

Thanks Bryan. This is a good one, and makes for a great comparison/battle! I have to go with the 0562Ti as well. Especially with it having so much third party customization support. Now if the Ultramar could go on a 1 oz diet, and offer a different clip option. Then, it would be a *really* tough decision. : - )

Ok I had to buy the Chaves Redencion 229 drop point in Titanium. What is with the thumb studs on this thing? It’s a nightmare to open! I’ve seen Nick Shabazz say that his fingers caught the locking mech and that caused it not to open well. I seriously can’t thumb flick this knife open!!! It’s frustrating to say the least because I spent $350 for it.

Bryan, I use the blade stop on my 0562 more than I use the flipper tab. I've been thinking about removing or reducing the size of the tab.I have a BUNCH of great knives and still carry my 0562CF every day.

@@jessruss40 I have a CF and a G10. Both flip easily for me using the studs/stops. My hands/fingers are smaller than most men (ala Shabazz) so maybe that helps get the meat of my thumb somewhat between the stud and frame to get more leverage.

Oh contrair Mr Slicey! I think you need to re-evaluate your opinion. Reate M390 which they do well (maybe Kurt can tell us how well) vs ZT soft 20cv! That pocket clip is worth $70.00! The 1/2 bte on the Chavez! Come on MAN! Of course I own 2 0562 and 2 Hinderers and no Chavez. YET!!!

The ZT looks like an awesome purpose built user where as the 229 is more of a nicely crafted show piece, which I'd enjoy owning and admiring more (less the clip). And that blade shape is sexy as hell! If someone comes up with an aftermarket clip, I'm all over it.

I have to write off the skull clip. I work in a professional environment, so it’s one thing to have a knife clip sticking out of slacks and another to have a massive skull clip sticking out. It sucks because I feel like I’m missing out but I can’t justify the purchase if I can’t carry the knife.

If you work in an office environment then you may want to consider carrying a different type of knife. I carry a Ferrum Forge gent in my slacks to work. When I am not wearing professional attire I carry my heavier knives.

I own both of these knives, and the quality on both of them is outstanding... ZERO fit and finish issues, crazy tight tolerances, high end super steels. Literally the only difference is the geographic location they are built.

Sublyme I keep going back and forth on it. The knife is sitting there looking so awesome, then turn it over and that clip hits you. I don’t hate it but it certainly has a kind of “in your face” quality about it.
