Emergency hatches on elevators are locked from the outside so emergency-rescue can get in. The last thing people want is passangers climbing around the top of a stalled elevator. Also, jewelry stores have automatic locks and capacity-limits to prevent theft.

Elevators have multiple fail-safes. There are several cables holding you and even a single one can support the maximum weight limit. There are also brakes that engage in the event of total cable failure.

You guys should watch The Island with Bear Grylls. It is absolute S+ tier. Think Survivor/Gilligans Island with Bear Grylls just being a hands off host. Just doing the intro, talking to the islanders at the start, talking to the islanders at the end, sometimes cutting in explaining to the audience what exactly the people on the island are doing wrong. Besides interacting with them on the first and last day he doesn't see them at all. There are no games. No competition. 14 people with only a days training on a deserted island. Training consists of "Don't eat this apple, If you do you're dead. Don't drink raw water." basic bare minimum. It's basically 14 pampered city folk on an island starving, ravished by sand flies, crying, swearing and trying to survive.

when I was very young, like 9 or 10 I stayed with some family members and at that time it was a spike in crime in that zone or something that made people afraid and the parents tried to always go with their children instead of letting them as much as they could but when they couldn't several children would get together go to whatever place holding hands and come back if that thing spread to the whole country or whatever at the point people get taught to go holding hands it could become a permanent thing that even adults do even after the dangerous times pass (pretty much like in the past when rich people would go around with their steel death machines, also known as cars, killing themselves and people and that eventually lead to today's nightmarish pedestrian hostile city design present in some countries)
