A little friendly cat advice: Cats really don't like their food and/or water near their litter box. It can cause them to eat and drink less and be more reluctant to use the litter box. Love the bus and video!

9/10 build. Only thing i expected but you didn't are solar panels and solar power system, but you gotta sacrifice the roof deck, but also i think the roof deck doesn't have to be the full leght of the bus, could be just 1/3, the rest can be for solar panels

As a heavy duty diesel tech, I too was looking at all of these comments from people that don't know what they are talking about shaking my head lol. You were right on all accounts for what you said and the reasoning was sound. You were right that you could have gone lighter and it would have helped a ton, but it is not the end of the world and these heavy duty vehicles and their beefed up systems are meant to run with a huge amount of weight for 10-12 hours strait a day and not even turn off the engine unless you are doing maintenance or fueling up. You did a fantastic job on this build and it looks amazing. Honestly the only thing I would have personally done differently was a slightly shorter roof raise by about 6 inches just to clear more of the bridges at least in my area and make it a little less nerve racking lol but I much say this is the first time I have seen a bus/van build and it truly looks like a house once you get inside. Like, you close that door, and you are no longer in a bus, you are in a super luxurious shotgun style tiny home. Well done. One question I do have is in a more off grid situation, with the (amazing btw) showers and all of the lighting, how long does a tank of water and the battery bank typically last you? Or is this more used as a camper instead of a full time home on the road? Again, truly amazing build.

your comment made my day, thank you so much!! it means alot to have a diesel tech approve of our work- also reassuring after reading some of the more negative comments lol 😂 to answer your question, the 100gal of fresh water will last me about 3 days if im quick taking daily showers... the battery bank (not using any ac) will last about 24-36 hours depending on how frugal i am. (this is where the opening windows and ceiling fan REALLY pay off) if im using ac on eco mode and have all the lights on, i could probably get about 6 hours out of it.... however at fast idle, the secondary Alternator i added will charge a completely dead battery bank in about 4 hours! my now fiancé and I use the bus mostly as a tiny home though with city water and 60 amp power supply with a septic system for sewage. Whenever we do take it out, we usually are only about 4-6 hours away at a campsite with power provided again, thanks for your message man, made my day

@@guyod1 That all depends on the vehicle. Most heavy duty trucks (at least here in the US) have a system to dump the air out of the rear bags lowering the rear when hooking up to a trailer. And most city style/transit busses do have a system to lower either the front, back, or the entire bus to make it easier for people to get in and out at a bus stop. But for school buses, they are usually not equipped with that kind of feature due to them being made to just simply transport a ton of kids 2 times per day with very few features and comforts for as little as possible. You can buy systems to retrofit this on this bus fairly easily as I have done it but it all depends on the amount of money you want to spend for how inclusive and easy the kit actually is.

As a supplement to your off-grid power supply, I would recommend checking out what’s called an APU. They’re basically small generators that can also run a/c units, but at a fraction of the fuel that your main engine uses while idling. Considering that you’re burning through about $20 in diesel for every 8 hours that you’re idling that bus, it can be a huge savings. And as a plus, the APU can be connected to your existing fuel tank so that you don’t have to worry about keeping it filled up.

Chay, would consider just slamming a battery operated smoke detector in the battery compartment. Stands to reason something could happen to the bms and a relatively cheap but effective backup warning device would be great. I can't fault your position, weight on the rear axles is actually fantastic for driving and general stability, just stay safe brother.

@TwiiK
@TwiiK 2 ай бұрын
That makes zero sense. Lack of circulation or cooling doesn't make electronics heat up more. The electronics are what's causing the heat in the first place. All you can do is transport that heat away, and the AC is clearly doing that. If not the room wouldn't be comfortable to be in.
@ezplays3321
@ezplays3321 2 ай бұрын
@@TwiiK As a person who has built 50+ computers He is right. Usually the power supply is at the bottom of the Pc and there is a fan in the power supply cooling it. if there's carpet the fan will be suffocated. And it does make sense if you have just a box with no fans or holes whatsoever the hot air from the components will just be trapped in the box causing the components to overheat. A high-end computer that produces a lot of heat usually has intake fans blowing fresh air into the case and a smaller or equal amount of exhaust fans blowing that hot air out
@TwiiK
@TwiiK 2 ай бұрын
@@ezplays3321 No. You are both talking about keeping the computer cool. He doesn't have a problem keeping his computer cool, he has a problem keeping his room cool. Cooling the computer is irrelevant. You can't change how much heat the computer produces by cooling it.
@ezplays3321
@ezplays3321 2 ай бұрын
@@TwiiK it's not completely irrelevant, If the fan is being suffocated the power supply is going to get hotter therefore making the room a bit hotter. Although I don't think 1 part is going to make a big difference in the overall temperature of the room it's still bad he has his computer on the carpet just for the sake of the computer

So true the ac cools the air inside the home (recirculated). The fan pushes the air back into home, the heat exchanger heat is pushed outside.

Amazing job, let me congratulate you on it first. I had a few questions from the first vid, which were satisfied in this one. First I was concerned about decision to put every heavy thing on port side, however since you’re about a third away from maximum load it should be fine. Suspension should be able to handle uneven weight distribution. Second was electrics, specifically batteries placed in bedroom. Now I feel you’ve addressed it in a fairly rational way - emergency exit, fire extinguishers and monitoring should keep you safe. Allow me to make a couple suggestions. One is to install a gas sensors in bedroom, if not already. They’re relatively cheap and will allow you to monitor CO/CO2 levels. Some combined systems can even measure multiple things like temperature, humidity, ozone and oxygen levels, as well as air quality index. But most importantly they have built-in alarm. Two are ventilation ducts with condensation canal. Even in a big house you need it to be about 6cm in height to work if I remember correctly. Since you have flat sealing in part and roof is just right there, you can run a couple of them in between. Warm air naturally goes up into them, roof provides temperature gradient so vapor can naturally condense inside and drip down to canals to be expelled outside. Helps with dehumidification a lot. House I’m renting now has flat roof over the kitchen and only general ventilation, which makes dehumidifier run almost 24/7/365. While in bedroom has proper set up present and it works perfectly - maintaining comfortable 52% all year round without any help. Hope it could be useful, but probably for renovation or for later projects. It was truly a pleasure, thank you for sharing!

Paying attention to only the GVWR is not sufficient. This bus has not only a raised roof, but then it has a lot of additional weight thrown up that high. Not only with the deck, but also the interior ceiling. Every pound up there is 10x worse than the water tanks, for example.

For those thinking making one 2.0 Bus. 1. Use a wind break and auto jacks when lifting a roof. 2. Install at least 4 Solar Panels 3. Use stamp steel and fiber insulation. Not spray foam 4. Composing toliet, recycle water shower, Maxx vent fans 5. Could try to convert to biogas or veggie oil to run clean overall chay build is 7.5/10. at 300k bus for 75k-100k aint bad

Awesome build? Did you ever consider putting solar panels for power on the roof rather than using the engine, and if so why did u choose not to use solar?
@titaniumvideos1039
@titaniumvideos1039 2 ай бұрын
I would say it's probably because they already have plenty of power options and as he mentioned in the video they usually use city power provided at campsites anyway so solar panels would probably be super overkill. Though that doesn't mean it can't be an additional option in the future.

Such an amazing build and congrats on the proposal and your upcoming married life. Watching these videos I do feel nervous not seeing some safety precautions that construction and auto body and repair shops would typically require. Safety shoes, safety glasses and long sleeves/pants would be required. Gloves for many of the specific jobs. For the roof raise I was also squirming a bit not to see bump caps / hard hats. For safety on the road I wonder is that lap belt in the passenger seat NHTSA certified? Any reason not to go for a proper seat with shoulder harness? And you addressed weight a lot, but the massive roof raise also changes center of gravity a lot from a bus design concept, which does have a bigimpact on suspension wear, steering and overall stability particularly in windy conditions. Amazing build, folks. Please be careful on the safety front though.
