Does the rule apply for past tenses and also for negative sentences? Would it be all right to have another dedicated video for this if a further explanation is needed? Grazie mille. ❤

Buona domanda, Cherry! The rule is exactly the same whatever tense you are using and also for negative questions, eg: "Che libri hai letto?" - what books did you read? "Che libri non hai letto?" - what books you didn't read?

Great video. Is there anything else one needs to know in order to correctly say exclamations such as “How beautiful!” or “How interesting!” Grazie tanto
@ItalianTeacherValentina10 ай бұрын
Good question, Kevin! Just that we don't say "How+ adjective" (as in "how beautiful") but "What+adjective" (so> "che bello!")
@vinceturner38634 ай бұрын
Thanks for this. I always thought the use of "cosa" as a question word as being a short form of "che cosa" and meaning "what thing", so I wouldn't use "Cosa" before a noun because the noun makes the 'cosa' redundant. I guess in English you couldn't say "What thing book are you reading" whereas you might possibly say "What thing are you reading?"

Thank you for the explanation Valentina!! I also noticed while watching shows dubbed in Italian, when the character is exclaiming “what?” It’s always “ Che Cosa?” Is there a particular reason why it’s always che cosa and not “che” or “cosa”?
@ItalianTeacherValentina2 ай бұрын
No particular reason, and in theory "Che" or "Cosa" would work as well, but probably "Che cosa?" in this specific context is slightly more common.

Really useful! Can I ask why the progressive isn't necessary?
@ItalianTeacherValentina7 ай бұрын
There is not a specific reason, it's just that we use Present Tense in a different (and broader) way than in English (e.g. we can also use present tense for future events or, as in this case, for something we are doing in that moment).

do you have a lesson that explains why in "what are you eating"... why you take out the "are" and "you" in the sentence... this is what I struggle with. Grazie mile.
@ItalianTeacherValentina8 ай бұрын
Not yet, so I'll explain it here. It's just a difference in the usage of tenses in Italian. We can use "Tu mangi" both as "You eat" and "You are eating" (applies to any other verb) Also, we usually drop the subject ("Tu") as that information is already "built-in" in the ending of the verb, as in Italian conjugations each subject has a specific and different ending from the others. Hope this helps!
