I absolutely love these trees. I have had zero issue with pests, disease, or struggle of any kind. They are drought tolerant, take full Desert sun, and Fruit reliably every year. Even when they were whips inground, they gave Fruit. Very similar to the Mulberry. Unlike Mulberry, which is susceptible to late frosts and berry loss, Che fruit in late spring to summer, so there is no chance for issue. I highly recommend this unpopular cousin to the Mulberry.

Here in Kentucky we grow them. Tastes like watermelon, fig and mulberry to me. Nice plants, good job.

Great video about an unusual tree! I found a seedless variety at Edible Landscaping in Virginia. They shipped my treeling. It really matured this year and besides fresh eating, I gathered about three quarts of the fruit, cut it in half and removed stems then made jam. Canned 4 pints. Looks like strawberry jam but flavor is a blend of fruits. Mine started out vertical but now is more tree shape. I want to keep it more of a bush. Best to you and enjoy your Che fruit.

You have to check it out! Most people haven't. I'm not sure why, as they are really neat and unique fruiting trees.

@@vicky116 Good question. I am not sure of the health benefits. Fresh fruit is always a healthy choice.

Any idea of what type of soil they like?
@DesertGardensHomestead
@DesertGardensHomestead Жыл бұрын
From my experience, they are not picky. Much like the Mulberry, they are tough. My soil is heavy clay, but I did amend at planting. They have thrived in my harsh climate.

Thanks for that quick reply! I have the opposite, sandy soil, so I too must amend.

How is the pest pressure? Mulberries can get all their leaves eaten in my area. I think its spider mites

I have absolutely no pest pressure with Che. I don't have pests with Mulberry either. The only major pest issue I have at this point are leaf cutter ants. They will strip immature trees of all their leaves and put them into shock. I have some DE for those occasions. I found the more I plant, the stronger the ecosystem and balanced it became.

Did you buy this plant in AZ (if yes, from where?) or did you buy it from an online nursery that you can recommend?

I bought it online. I believe it was from Burnt Ridge Nursery.

I’ve had great success using air layering

Thanks for sharing. I managed to propagate a few this season via air layering. I agree. It seems to be the most viable method.

from what i understand is that if you have seeds its probably a male plant. cheers still a great video and i like the airlayering your doing

I'll have to look into that as I've not heard it. Even if it was a male, a female could always be grafted in. Thanks for watching!

From all my research male and female will both fruit and have seeds if a male is nearby.. if no male and you have a seedless variety it will not have seeds.. not sure though, I I haven’t had mine long enough to fruit. I’m supposed to have a seedless variety (we shall see)
