Great video. Awesome, to see a D50! The camera is a bit more capable than what you described in your experience. If you put that old 18-55 lens (w/ that crappy filter), on your D750 shot with similar exposure settings, you would have had similar results. If you keep the D50 under ISO 1600 with a 35mm 1.8G, shooting raw, with good technique, then you’d still get amazing images printed up to 16x20. These 6MP CCD sensor cameras are still sought after, because of their unique color rendering and excellent skin tones. Also, it’s ability to shoot at 1/500th flash sync gives these cameras more creative options when shot in daylight.

😂 Who does a camera review with a crappy lens combo? Like you said why use a filter? Put a prime lens on that D50 and see what it can do. I can tell you a D50 with a Nikon Nikkor 50mm or 35 mm 1:1.8G prime lens in broad daylight? I've even had tremendous success with a 50mm 1.4 D AF lens because the camera has a built in AF motor. I got some Incredible pictures. When I say Incredible. I mean capturing surfers in mid air with suspended water dropplets. Perfectly exposed. This camera does remarkably well In Shutter Priority mode and in bright daylight when you can keep your ISO in the 200 to 400 range. I agree this guy just doesn't understand its true capabilities. His shots are even underexposed. Thats user error not the camera. 😆

I own a D50. I like that it runs the screw lenses. There are not many affordable modern cameras with a focus motor. As a backup or second body for events it actually does a nice job. All the features actually do work in mine. As with any camera you could use a much faster lens on a low light day and make your life easier. A 50 1.8d is very affordable and runs perfectly on the D50... if you shoot nikon you already own one.

Thank you, I was getting depressed listening to his comments about my beloved D50, I still shoot with mine and it works perfectly for what I need. Although I do not used an updated version so a comparison would be hard make. If I decide to upgrade I may like the latest models, but until my D50 breaks or stop working I think I'll stick with it. Thanks for the lens tip!

A D50 was my very first Nikon digital camera 2 centuries ago. A couple of years ago, I got my very first Z6. Two weeks after that I sold most of my F cameras and lenses. I purchased the Z6ii when it came out and most of the Nikon Z prime lenses. Every once in a while I shoot with a D5500 I kept, with either the 18-55 or the 70-300. This is a RED D5500, my wife chose the color and I've kept it for sentimental reasons. Yes it s fun to shoot with the older cameras, but the newer cameras are as different as night and day. I've thought about buying and older used camera after watching several of these videos, instead I'll just save the $$. Thanks for posting your video.

Yes, it is an old camera and technology has radically improved. So, what was the point of complaining about old technology???? I use them because they are cheap and I don't have to worry about the investment of $40 for a bang around camera. I started with a 16x20 view camera and a heavy tripod. Huge investment in a dark room. I am thankful for the new technology and see little reason to bad-mouth progress. What was your point?

The D50 is one of my ATF. There is lots to love about it. The loud click sound, The weight, the size. This thing is a heavy tank. This is a mans camera!!! Todays cameras are getting smaller, lighter and sleek. They feel cheaply made. When Im using my D50 with a vintage lens like a 50 mm Af 1.4 D lens. You get the throw back photography feeling. Its a rush for me. I like the challenge of getting exceptional photos with older technology cameras. Im not a point and shoot guy. I'm trying to create artistic photo's. Megapixel and all that jazz has nothing to do with why I shoot. Its about capturing a timeless photo and using my skills. I don't want a camera to do the work. I want to say I took this with a D50 and 30 year old lens!!!

Sorry dude, but I got kinda irritated watching your careless abuse and listening to your derogatory comments about this 15 year old little gem. Think you were secretly hoping it would flood out with rainwater and put an early end to your clearly unenjoyable perambulations. I thought you took some fairly decent pics despite your lack of respect for the D50. Mine is 15 years old with more than 100,000 pleasing shots under the hood. Stay Safe. Peace

Great video! Love the first person perspective with the music. Well done. Pics look great on the video. I noticed the D50 aficionados defending their camera in the comments. I just found a Nikon D50 kit on Mecari for $65.00. But, what really got me excited was the D50 came with a Nikon 35mm 1.8, and a Sigma 70 - 300. One of those deals one can not pass by. The D50 was the departed dads set up. I had thought to set the D50 on a shelf as a museum relic. Well, to pay hommage to the cameras former owner, and maybe a little guilt for those lenses; I have decided to take the D50 seriously and see what it can do. That's how I found your video, and have also found, like the comments here; the Nikon D50 has a very large fan club. My D50 is still on it's way as I type this. So excited. Oh, right. Forgot to inform all of my personal camera stable, as we all do. Several high end Nikon bodies, and two top notch pentax bodies. Cant wait for the D50!

I just found this body at the thrift store for twenty bucks. No lens or charger. I have some lenses and seen a charger for about $20 bucks. You think it's a good deal(if it works) for that price? Was thinking i could use it for a photo booth setup? I see it has usb. Can I tether with that?

I have quite a few of these older Nikon DSLRs, and it's funny to see a D50 fair better than a D3100 for example, due to a different sensor technology (and slightly bigger for that matter) but for a lower price on the used market. Granted a fast prime is needed to see the quality. That being said I still like my D80 for most things due to its speed and storage capacity.

Not too sure who this vid is aimed at, perhaps just people who abuse old equipment and generally complain about how inferior the tech was 15 years ago. Well I never! Next time why don’t you stroll through the rain and drizzle with a 60/70 year old Leica M3 with an F1.4 50mm Summilux and toting a Weston Master lV for those trickly lighting shots when you are using ASA80 Ektachrome in low light. Yeh, maybe gotta schlep along with that old 20lb wooden Manfrotto with the 2lb head for max stability. After that can you test ride in the wet one of those old Rolleiflexes with the Distagons. They just soak up water by osmosis.

It honestly makes me smile when I hear all this bullshit about cameras ! The camera is only as good as the eye of that individual using it so cut the crap its an art that a camera can help you with like a good brush for an artist my 8 year old daughter took a fantastic picture of a mountain range that I had tried to get for many many years she did it with a cheap Fuji film camera that cost £70 new with nothing like what the D50 has so lets cut to the chase the D50 is a great camera for the price and does what it says on the can !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
