We are taking a break from the "classics" today to work with some modern technology. My Wife's car has carplay and its something I have always wanted in my car as well. There are plenty of double din head units with carplay, with all budgets in mind. However, my car for example, only has single din. I was thinking of making a custom center console to fit a double din, but when my buddy sent me the link and I saw this. It was a no brainer that this is what I needed for my Towncar.

After some time using it, I have to say, for the money I do not think you can do better! Solid little radio with carplay and a single din application.

@itgarageben Can you explain in more detail why you had to rob the power from the lighter backlight? What does it have to do with the signal wire to your headlights switch? I'm looking to install this unit in a 1991 VW Vanagon Westfalia.

So I just used that because it was tied to the headlights and right there. You can steal switched power from anywhere as long as it ties in with the headlights. Basically giving power to that wire will dim the unit.

I had no issues with audio. That makes me think you have an amp in your car that needs power. Or just even bypassed to work

i wanted to add carplay and all that to my passat and i was looking for something like that when i stumbled upon a Pioneer DMH-A4450BT that i got for like 80 bucks, that saved me from the chinese stuff lol

Is there a way to show the volume control permanently on the screen? Sadly I don't have steering wheel controls.

I do not know, nor have I tried. I don’t remember seeing an option to make it stay on the screen. In my opinion. It’s still the only downfall of this radio
