I have been following you since February last year. Since then, I started my simple and cheap farm at home and it's even not my home because it's in a place where I have been sent by the government to work but I rent a room and use it to rear fewer chicks. This time around, I'm doing brooding of at least 250chicks which I immediately sell after a month. I am grateful and because I am now thinking about expanding to something big, I also still need you! God bless your work bro. Aimé from Rwanda

Is sorghum good for chickens?
@vestahall12823 жыл бұрын
Hey from America. I don't know the laws where U or many of Ur viewers are, but what about a worm farm for protein, from kitchen scraps and cheeps feed sources (surplus/cheap grains/seeds). Talking earth worms, meal worm (grubs), etc. Even a cricket farm fed on grass clippings. Any thoughts? Talking commercially bred insects from safe sources. And controlled farming, say in a bin, or drawers. Also, I've heard of farmer's setting up fly larvae buckets for their chickens, where they put spoiled meat and safe "roadkill" (anything without buckshot, poisons, toxins, etc.) and put it into a bucket with holes on the bottom and top over a concrete slab, for flies to lay eggs in - the maggots eat the waste feed stuffs, then drop out of the bottom of the bucket onto the concrete when they're ready to pupate, and the chickens get most of them. Any thoughts on this? (As supplementary, if course).

Have you ever experimented with grainless diets? such as larvae and other types of food sources? there is a farmer in the US using compost heaps to feed their chickens..

That would be way too expensive for commerical scale. If ur raising chicks for domestic use then yeah that's good.

@BestFarmingTips4 жыл бұрын
I don't think mixing your own poultry feed is the best. I have turkeys, ducks (muscovy breed), free range chickens (kuroilers) and I have tried mixing grains before to feed these birds. It turned out that its both cumbersome and expensive. Buying commercial feed is much cheaper and easier. However, I ferment the processed feed, so that its gets more palatable, the birds eat less but quickly get full and there is less waste when they eat fermented feed. I also prefer buying pellet and crumbs, as compared to chicken mash because when fermented, pellets and crumbs multiply more than mash which is not machine compressed.
@claudioochieng50804 жыл бұрын
How do you do the fermentation
@BestFarmingTips4 жыл бұрын
@@claudioochieng5080 Almost any feed you regularly feed your chickens as primary meal, you can also ferment it, maybe save for kitchen waste and greens such as vegetables. here I'm talking about grains and commercial chicken feed. You should have about 3 buckets, and these will be used to ferment feed for 3 days. You put the normal feed that you have always been feeding your chickens daily in the bucket, then cover with water. the level of water should be 10 to 20cm above the feed, so that molds don't colonise your feed. After 3 days the feed will be ready to feed your chickens. it would have probably doubled in size, depending on what type of grains or feed you give your chickens. In most cases after fermenting the feed, you will have to reduce the amount of feed you give daily, because chickens will eat less and quickly get full, also the nutrients in the feed easily get converted to meat as the feed will be wet. Fermenting chicken feed is the way to go, whether you formulate your own feed or you use commercial ones.
