Glad I came across this video. Made a blanket using free spirit a few years back and I also wasn't crazy about the feel of it. And it also does shed more than I thought it would. Planning to try out the Showstopper yarn.

Hey any tips on shedding found free spirit for 3 bucks a skein and hoping to make a blanket but the shedding is unimaginable
@Jennifer_nicole4 жыл бұрын
Sorry no. The shedding is difficult to deal with. I’ve tried felting it, but that didn’t really do anything. Wow what a great price!

I found the loops and threads free spirit marked down to $2.99 a skein as well. I was going to try felting it in the dryer, but having had a fire in my dryer in the past (down blanket), I'm hesitant to put this in my dryer...

Did you have to felt the free spirit in the dryer before using it?

Hey! How to get rid of shedding in acrylic chunky wool?
@Jennifer_nicole4 жыл бұрын
You can try felting it in the dryer, but it really didn’t do anything for me. 😞

I’ve been making my chunky blankets with free spirit yarn until I found the showstopper. I agree the free spirit is stronger, but the showstopper is softer. ( I also have fibromyalgia so I like super soft yarn). I’m starting one with the showstopper now and was wondering how it will wear and last. It feels quite fragile. I’m sure the blanket won’t be washable. If you have any feedback I’d appreciate it. Thanks so much for the great video! Many Blessings!

How is your fibro? Mine seems to have gotten worse times 10 in the past year. It was limited to exhaustion, pain, and cold sensitivity, but in the past year it’s turned into a crazy monster. I can’t wear clothes and jewelry like I used to. I have to wear certain things or I feel the clothes on my body all day. When I leave the house I look like I’m going to the gym. I would love to know if you have the same issues and if you do what types of clothing you wear. The showstopper does shed a lot, and I haven t found much to help it. You can wash it by soaking it in the tub with soap and air dry. When it dries you just brush it gently with your hands. The small ones I make for props don’t get a TON of wear and tear, so they hold up well. The ones I’ve made for my house have to be decorative mainly. Although my 4 year old loves to run and jump onto the one in that video I made. It’s definitely not as pretty as when I made it (fuzzier), but it has held up really well!

Has anyone tried felting or dreading these yarns?

What would you recommend to help shedding for the showstopper yarn?
@Jennifer_nicole6 жыл бұрын
Girl, I don’t even know. When I figure that out I’ll def let you know. I’ve tried felting them by spraying them and tying them and putting them into the dryer before using. That didn’t seem to help.

Also give hobby lobby a review about that. The more we do, the closer we are to them figuring out a solution either in how it’s made or sending out some tips on what WE can do. ❤️

Using the Free Spirit when I was making a blanket it kept on shedding, how do I fix that!
@Jennifer_nicole6 жыл бұрын
Make sure when you start you aren’t wearing jewelry or anything. After making the blanket try brushing it with your hand very gently. You can also try and soak it then let air dry. I’m sorry 😟. I haven’t seen much shedding with that brand compared to the other.

@@whoateallmypotatoes6202 I prefer not to actually. It doesn't really help it :(. I just misted mine with a water bottle, tied it off, and threw it in the dryer. If you experiment and find a better way I would love to try it.

currently (June 2019) the Free spirit is on clearance at Michaels for 9.97 a skein. . . so that makes it cheaper than the Showstopper. . . depends on the buyer

sammanthat I was just there today and got some for $15 a skein. It depends on the Michaels. But this video was shot when it was full price during fall/winter.

Cheap...??????? Last time I saw free spirit is was 30$ a skein
@Jennifer_nicole5 жыл бұрын
$35 a skein which is about 2 lbs, but still way cheaper than merino wool and other chunky knit yarns. The free spirit and showstopper are the cheapest I’ve found thus far. Do you have a recommendation for any others?
