Cheap Eats Manila: Sichu Malatang SM Mall of Asia | Crab Claws Hotpot | Spicy Sichuan Soup. Sichu Malatang is a new Sichuan hot pot restaurant concept where you choose your ingredients and pay for the bowl by weight. It was first opened at the Double Dragon Plaza on EDSA and has since branched out to SM Mall of Asia in May 2022. Upon arrival you’ll notice their chilled display with over 60 ingredients that change with the seasons including vegetables, meats, seafoods, meatballs, fishballs and noodles. The order process is simple, just grab a bowl and tongs and fill it up with your chosen ingredients. I chose assorted veggies and loaded up with 2 crab claws as my main protein. Your bowl will be weighed at the counter at a cost of PHP 1.10 per gram where you’ll get to choose the level of spiciness of your soup from 1 - 5. Malatang means “Spicy numbing soup” so unless you can take the heat, you’ll probably want to stick to the first two levels. I love spice so I chose level 5!
The base broth which is added to your selection is made by slow-cooking roasted pork bones, beef bones and bone marrow with 18 herbs and spices, including Sichuan pepper, star anise and mandarin peel.

Normally the malatang is well flavored when it’s served, so you don’t need extra dipping source unless you have a specific preferred flavor.
