We purchased a Giandel 2200W pure Sine Wave Inverter 12V DC to 110V 120V with 20A Solar charge control. We way over powered our creek side camp. We only use the system to run a small apartment refrigerator w/ freezer (draws 10A), 2 different sets of outdoor lights (30Watts each). It's only a system we use on the weekends for the last year and seems to be working well. The inverter has lots of safe guards for those of us who aren't so solar smart. Like when our battery bank got to low an alarm went off and it shut the system down (thank you Giandel).

Good video. I ordered a 2000w/4000w peak inverter a couple years ago. I was already skeptical of its current. Turns out it will do 1500w max continous If it doesn't shutdown due to heat protection. It uses the case as a heatsink and that clearly isn't enough.

John Daniel I can relate. I have the hardest time making people understand that an inverter does not make electricity it converts dcv to acv which means you can't put a quart of water in a gallon jug and expect it full?. I have 8 thousand watts and I have 8 lithium ion batteries, and WHY? it needs a gallon to fill a gallon jug. Powerjack has give me great service like you say it takes excess of wattage for surge to start. I gave up on my vet friend he wants to know why his 8000 watt won't put out he's got two batteries on it ???? you can lead them to water but I'll be damned if they will drink it. Great Videos keep them coming your spot on. Mike

TO ANYONE WATCHING THIS VIDEO, THIS GUY IS A STRAIGHT SHOOTER!!! If you think this guy is anything but correct, I have a bridge in NYC to sell you real cheap. Dear John, Thanks for the video!! It is a shame that Amazon does not enforce false advertising. I tried 6 different inverters before I found one that actually performed as advertised. I had one that dropped the output voltage down to 98VAC under a 50% load, while showing an output of 114VAC. By design, an inverter is also a voltage regulator. So how do you put out a product that advertises 115VAC, but as soon as you apply any load it drops? I have seen the Alffaa perform well in a youtube video, but I ended up settling on the BougeRV 2kW with bluetooth. It holds 119VAC regardless of the input voltage, or load on the output. I gauged the inverters I tested by their ability to hold the output voltage steady. P=IxE and no one seems to get that. At 12VDC you need lots of amps and lots of copper, and again no one seems to get it. Then there is the 80% rule, and again no one gets it. It's not new science. Why did I get a 2kW? Because I know I need 1kW constant. You get it, but again no one else does. I see people on youtube hooking up battery banks with bolt in fuses, and no disconnect. I just can't believe the stupidity abound. BUZZZZZ POP!! There goes another one! Great video pointing out the build differences, as they are confirmation of DANGEROUS crap for sale on Amazon. Roof leaks, just a little damp. Toilet breaks, just a little stinky. Cheap electrical equipment breaks, 4 alarm fire. I wish people would stop playing with their lives. However I suppose it does help on the Darwin front...

What is the brand, and wattage. A internal reset breaker on the 120v side in some can give this effect. The Capacitors will have residue voltage, enough to get a reading, to discharge them you attach the test light to the battery terminals on the back and it will light up and fade out showing DC held volts gone.

They advertise honestly. That is why I got one, then they sent me another for $29 shipping. They are built very simple, and use real ratings, not 200% fake selling ratings. You have a real 1800 watt start peak, a 90% that is not hype, a idle current of almost nothing, and can trust it to maintain 1000 watts till the cows come home. THAT is how to pick a inverter, not on ad lies. Tired of seeing a 1500 watt inverter with a claim it can hit 3000 watts and the sellers posting the CLAIM as the main title in the ad, not the ability. You only need to be sure you have 200 amps actual pulling power ( battery ) available, to never be disappointed.

The best way to mount any inverter is flat, however if you choose to mount it vertically make sure that you do so with the DC up and the 120 volt outlets facing down because the DC side converters will make more heat and the updraft will help it cool

Those have as I recall 4 screws on each end, 3 or 4 on the bottom holding the base plate to the frame. If you can look for a seam on the upper 1/4 of the body, then its a clam shell pre 2016 model. If it has screws on the sides in the fins its a pre 2008 model, TOSS IT. If not then its a one piece, and once all those removed the inverter I think slides out from the solid aluminum extrusion by slightly twisting the outlet side to allow it to fit back into the case and you slide it out. Fuses on most were soldered into the board. Best to use 1/4 spade board adapters and solder them in then pop in new fuses. The stage 2 mosfets have weak 3.3 disc capacitors, and 10K resistors on them ( think I am accurate ) to control cycle volts, near the large positive lead look there for possible burn on the fets and those items. No schematic exist on this inverter made by EP Tonotran but its build is near identical to older Chicago Electric models by EPT pre 2013 Get me some pictures olympicpowercontrols@yahoo.com and I can likely help more. ALL ANGLES top, bottom, sides, edges.

@Zomby_Woof Жыл бұрын
What can be confusing for non electricians re wire gauge selection is that most loads are intermittent. Even my forced air heat is only a 50% duty cycle. Inverters, you're talking about a current draw that in many scenarios is is pretty much continuous. There's no time for the cables to dissipate heat. Loads are different. A/C is another exception because they have hi g ly variable current draws, but also have an internal breaker, so are safe on a smaller circuit. NEC assumes worst case and sizes accordingly. Inverters are pretty close to worst case, so NEC is a good guiedline.

Just to be on the safe side, dont max out your inverters capacity. 500 watt load is good enough for a 1500 watt inverter.

I try to enforce that think in all my videos. It's distressing to see people get a 1000 watt inverter to run a 999 watt load LOL!! What do you recommend for a grid tie inverter? I need at least 1000 watt
@JOHNDANIEL1 Жыл бұрын
Why would you even consider a grid tie? Back feeding into the grid only takes a decade to pay off. Or do you mean a inverter with grid and battery ability.
@brianj9262 Жыл бұрын
@JOHNDANIEL1 no an actual grid tie. No battery. Who needs all that extra expense and mess along with the room it takes up? Grid tie is clean. Panels last pretty much forever. Batteries you'll get 5 years and another expense. The mess and then exchange hassle. We get about 100 bux reduction that we see in our monthly bill. If it takes 10 years mostly maintenance free, we are OK with that

Those little 40 amp controllers have been actually quite better than I expected. They run very nice and cool and the money I saved I was able to buy 400 more watts of solar panels. So far in test they're right at about 97% efficiency was which is exactly what Epever is. For the money I would say they're extremely well worth it and they have this reaction pulse when they start to tune out at full battery charge but sort of acts like a pulse battery plate cleaning unit. Probably not an intentional design but it sure would be a nice thing to be put in another ones.

Working on the power monitor and distribution center now. I will put in my tiny 500 watt one for now until I get better. I trust your judgment. Over the years i have followed you, you have always been transparent and in the beginning i always researched your findings on stuff. I was never able to prove you wrong, after awhile i gave up and just trust your judgment. If you perchane read this. Do you think a used one in good condition is ok? Yes, a used renogy 2k is is worth the $100. Just look it over well, and give it an actual smell test. If it smells like anything burned in it proceed with caution. Make sure that the fans come on with a load over 300 watts and test it before you buy it if you can. If you can't probably still worth the gamble they're not really hard to fix.

Hello John, are you going to do a make sky blue charge controller review.
@JOHNDANIEL12 жыл бұрын
The have a high fail rate, so I am not wanting to show it works well, which is does, until it fails early due to cooling issues. They skipped effective heat sinking to install a fan, the fan is in the "lowest quality category" you can find in China. The fan control circuit fails, it is using a pwm-fet with 220uf and it itself over heats too. So either the bearings on the fan fail in under a year, or one good hot sunny day the fan control circuit dies.

There are things you need to remember when talking about load ..... If you are going to put a magnetic device on it (Microwave, motor etc) you need to look at your running load and then times that by 7 to get your peak load! So a 700W microwave takes 7 Amps (on those 100v systems you Americans use) which means that when you turn t on you pull 49A! ..... all be it for a short time, remember the heat generated still has to go somewhere! When you look at the bumf in the advertising remember that you can put a LOT of load through something for a short time without killing it. That means that if you can put 100A through a component it wit not like it and start getting hot, very hot, fairly quickly. But if you have a heatsink (even a crappy one) it will take time for the heat to build and melt / burn your kit! This enables you to throw the load through it for a fraction of a second and be able to claim your figures ..... with absolutely no chance of it working in the real world! In my job we regularly hook leads up to mobile kit running 400A+ (fused at 500A 240V) The leads we use are 400mm (0.6 Sq inches). Now that is real world and they will overheat if run under full load if the flexes cross each other .... so equate that 400A down to what you want to pull and look at the relative csa of the cable/ flex you have!
@JOHNDANIEL12 жыл бұрын
On a 120 volt 60 hertz system the microwave math is heat energy posted, example a 900 watt x 3.18 to get it's inverter preferred wattage. 3kw minimum. I run a 1000 watt on my 3000 SWI Power Inverter and it never has a second of volt sag. I wouldn't try that on a 2500.

@@JOHNDANIEL1 OK .... in the UK (and Europe) we go off the plate on the back that gives tech specs. We regularly hook people up on a 2000w inverter generator ..... they struggle when a decent fridge freezer kicks in, but they hold (dependant on what else they have on at the time). Different strokes, but the same tale at the end of it!

Each plug can handle 1850 watts but the 1000 watt inverter will stop at 1000 continuous trying to supply them. So just set your power needs not to exceed it, or upgrade to a bigger one. One can put out 900 and the other 100 if your loads are set up that way, both are wired back to the same spot on the board.

There are many brands sold especially on Aliexpress, it suggests that there is a company that produces the equipment, then the brand puts that simple sticker that comes on the aluminum lid, with the brand. I already had not very good experience with a red Rddspon inverter of 3000w peak by 1500w nominal. In fact, this Rddspon inside is the same equipment as the Jinsi, and both have a nominal power, not 1500w, but 944w (which is what I achieved in the tests). Unfortunately, there are companies that are not loyal to the consumer. I was cheated.

All web stores like Amazon, Ebay, Aliexpress have similar activities from sellers. They can choose to upgrade the internal parts and sell similar looking items or sell inferior built that look identical to the good products and sucker people into buying it. In china they are referred to as 骗子 ( Scammer ) I only buy from suppliers who have been in business over 3 years, have direct links to manufactures and do not make copies or knock offs.

Eu fui enganado.

Or, just spend the money and get a low frequency inverter for what you need. Or buy a really good low frequency inverter, that has an extremely low idol consumption. So apples that look like apples, aren't always great for building your pie! JMR= just my rant

Careful drinking the Koolaid LOL! This competition from dealers selling their rebranded LF inverters is a one sided competition against "not my product or profits" HF inverters is just BS. They do not make and can not make a high efficiency Low Frequency inverter nor do they make a compact one. With a massive transformer you just can't get away with that outcome. The extra 8% of battery and 9% of charging source ( solar, hydro, wind) required for one can be budget busting. So a trustworthy accurate rated HF model has been my goals. I use both styles in my build and unless you plan to only buy 100% of your home/shop items with a 300% start surge then stop pouring the cup full of koolaid and just buy a 50% bigger HF model then sizing calls for for still less than half the real price of a equal LF model.
@dustydawson89772 ай бұрын
@JOHNDANIEL1 Well to late, I already own the low frequency, not just inverter but a LF solar generator, US manufactured, not diy. And as you said, you will pay for that, I did a lot of research and wanted something, well built,effecient, expandable, and really durable, in LF there wasn't many to choose from 6 yrs ago, but I feel I made a good choice. @ that time 3000w continuous LF, with dual mppt controllers (150v 40a each) 2000w input, dual 25a wall chargers 29.2v, and 20a 12v charger, 5 20a 13.8v dc outputs,6 ac 15a outputs,external battery port, any brand any type,lead acid,gel,lithium. It's a modular stackable unit/batteries, the unit is only 34 lbs, batteries 32 lbs each, so it's portable, rugged, and there's no limit to battery expansion. I feel pretty good about it, even 6 yrs old, it's still pretty competitive today. I actually have 12kw lithium on it. I don't have but 1000w in solar panels for it, but I do have 5kw grid tied on my house, which can always be converted to dc and pass thru the mppts if necessary

Except we run our microwave on one numerous times a day and have been doing it for 17 years. You just have to buy a inverter with the right ability. Most folks are so cheap they buy a 1000 watt inverter to run a 1000 watt microwave without seeing that the 1000 watt microwave rating is for HEAT achieved, not power used to make that heat. A 1000 watt output microwave uses no less than 1400 watts to do it.
