So glad I found this video. I have a old 3aa flashlight that unscrews from both ends & was able to get a 18650 battery in by unscewing the buld end a little... Awesome. I'm curious what do you mean the 18650 is not a protected cell. What could happen? I guess the 5 mode lights that come with a 18650 have something that protects the cell? Thanks!

@@talon501 if you over discharge a 18650 it will get damaged. This is why most electronics that use these cells have a BMS. There is a risk of fire also with unprotected 18650s mostly if you short them out.

I hate crap with AAA batteries. AA's are much cheaper and last longer. The 18650 is a good change. My money says they do not make them with 18650 because of the added hazmat expense shipping lithium batteries.

I agree, but for me I had some spare cells from a project so I converted both of these. They seem just as bright as before.
