I have the same jack and it need hydraulic fluid to be added before first use. They don't fill it at the factory. No wonder they are cheap. Works once you bleed and fill to proper level.

And, you COULD get one that pumps faster, but that would mean getting one with a bigger piston which means more strength/leverage is needed to pump it. So, instead if playing cribbage with playing cards, he'd have to haul some blocks of wood for cribbing, right?
@ModMINI
@ModMINI 6 жыл бұрын
It's better to not use the screw if possible. You want to keep jack extension as low as possible to avoid the risk of shifting load. Cribbing is more stable than an extended jack. In most cases unscrewing the end might make sense but if there is any body part going under the car supported by nothing but a jack, I'd prefer the jack be extended as little as possible and just take the extra time to pump it up.

The bottle jack is designed to pump LESS fluid per stroke into a LARGE cylinder area. This equals MASSIVE lifting power with very small EFFORT. It's the basic theory that hydraulics is based upon. It's a 20 TON jack for gosh sakes. It has to pump less fluid per stroke or you'd need a handle TWENTY feet long to gain enough leverage. The floor jack is only 3 ton , so much more fluid can be moved per stroke ,resulting in a faster rate of lift. It's all about the RATIO of the AREA of the MASTER cylinder to the SLAVE cylinder. Good luck....Love the Channel......

As a professional mechanic, glad you figured it out. Invest in a set of proper jack stands next! Never trust just that jack. Once the vehicle is raised, set jack stands at the lift points on the side of the chassis (this varies per vehicle). Never really on questionable supports under that bottle jack, at the minimum have some sawn lumber pieces for this. Remember that if you are lifting on a control arm it isn't designed for a midpoint load, and the floating suspension is part of that support. It may move on you.

@evolutionglitch4739
@evolutionglitch4739 2 жыл бұрын
@@Pugslover there is a process to bleed all the air out of the little hydraulic pump that makes the jack lift. These jacks are decent, but sometimes the factory will not get all the air out, and then they leak pressure, which causes them to sink. If you google "how to bleed harbor freight jack" you can find directions to solve this problem easily.

That bottle jack made me burst out laughing. I had no idea you had to pump a thousand times either. I remember debating at the store whether to get one of those or a regular one. Now i'm really glad I got a regular one.

You have a extension bolt on the top of the bottle jack all you have to do is unscrew the mount on the top of the jack. Yes bottle jacks are slow but they almost never go bad.

You made zero sense there, i am sorry i hurt your fragile little internet feelings by making a truthful comment. You're the type of guy that sees a dentist fumble with his drill while waiting to be drilled "because he enjoys what he does" Good luck with that, if you do not know how to use a car jack (correction two in this case) perhaps it's about time to consider a different hobby.

No, Michel was spot on. This guy shouldn't be using a jack if he can't understand the most basic common sense principles of them. Seeing him under the car with the floor jack so precariously pushed to the side WITHOUT JACKSTANDS bothered me. And the guy has NEVER even operated a bottle jack before?? He never came to the realization that there's a take-up screw inside the ram. And he bought what looks like a 20 ton when a 2 ton (sold RIGHT beside it on the shelf for nearly half the price) would have pumped much more quickly for him. And really.... who unpacks a new floor jack and doesn't run it up and down before putting it to work? I get that there are people out there who haven't had to break down a full sized floor jack for transport, and might not be aware of the handle retainer pin (or bolt, in cheaper units like these) but really.... any normal tool/car guy couldn't resist playing with a shiny new tool to actuate its movements before actually vputting it to work. I just have a hard time believing the guy has any planned business under his vette when he's SO ignorant of the most common forms of car jack.

Many things could be said, but I will refrain, except: Failing to read the manual for a device of a type that regularly kills skilled mechanics every year is unconscionable - think of the public expense of having to rescue you and treat you when the jack fails due to operator error. Second, not understanding how to use the pressure valve on either of your jacks may mean that you are not cut out to be a mechanic. Thanks for sharing this with us and please keep the videos coming.

*take the handle out and make sure the handle is seated properly. I had that problem with mine that is just like yours. The head on that bottle jack screws up to extend it to get you closer to what you're trying to lift. the way you're lifting it you'll run out of Hydraulic lift before you reach the car with it. I have that same floor jack but i am seriously considering the Long Trave Daytona Jack (the ones they got sued by Snap On over copying their design) it's still only 3 ton but it lifts things higher and is still kind of a low profile jack. Yeah see you don't have to remove the jack handle bolt you just have to back it out to the point that the handle actually slides all the way into the shaft like i thought was your problem to begin with. this is the reason i don't take the handle out of mine but then i don't take my jack from one place to the other either*

Your a funny guy, great content again. Yeah I was screaming at you to check that but you didn’t hear me. I learned the hard way about the Harbor Freight jacks when I bought the arbor press and it came with a 12 tin bottle jack, the jack had no fluid in it and a ton of air, long story short I almost sold the damn thing when a neighbor came to the rescue. I hate and love Harbor Freight all at the same time, that neighbor calls Harbor Freight “ THE CHINESE EMBASSY”

HarborFreight is not as cheap as it used to be. Some of what they sell is now higher in price than other comparable products from name brand companies. Some of what they sell is still, in my opinion junk. I've had an angle grinder explode in my hands (not the abrasive disc, the tool it self, the handle exploded while it was in my hand), and I've had an air compressor melt down (the solenoid switch had a loose connector internally, if you know what happens when a connection is loose, it gets very hot at that point, same reason why houses burn down when a light bulb is left loose). But a lot of what they sell is still decent, or at least useable for intended purposes. I still shop there.

bought a socket set once for an impact gun and when i tried to undo a bolt the socket broke. I was amazed at how quickly it was able to break. I would really only buy their hand tools. Bought a power drill from there (cheap knockoff craftsmen drill) and it is only used for a wire wheel

John Davis damn, I didn't know about houses catching on fire, due to a loose light bulb
@vivillager
@vivillager 6 жыл бұрын
I haven't heard of it lately, but modern light bulbs are less than 30 watts, but years ago they were about 100. Years ago bulbs had shorter life spans than today (modern ones last for years, but back then they lasted months). Because replacing the bulbs were common, and sometimes they do get stuck, some people would take preventive measure to make it easier to remove later. My dad once tried greasing the base of the bulb with vasoline…. no, it didn't help. But some people would leave the bulb loose to make it easier to remove later, but loose wiring and connections do overheat when powered.

Joseph - Was it that black oxide(?)-coated set? I don't have any air tools, but those sockets have been phenomenal with either a breaker bar, or that "hammer-impact" wrench for lug nuts, etc. BTW, the Made-In-India flare nut wrenches were pretty crap for anything, uh, "strenuous(?)," but they've so far survived... Might have broken ONE. Okay for around the house.
