For $500 sister got married in dance studio which looked like a beautiful ball room with a chandelier and a foyer. It even had a warming kitchen. It wasn't normally used as a wedding venue and that was why it wasn't expensive. My step mom and the groom's mother catered the turkey dinner. She got 2 bottles of wine for every table and there was beer. I think it was a genius idea to throw a wedding there. The wedding was $5000 for 200 guests.

A caution for people looking into venues like parks and fields, or even private homes- workout how much things like catering, hiring tables, chairs, plates, glasses, lighting, generators etc is going to cost and add it on to the ‘cheap price’ of the venue. I wanted to do a field wedding but after I worked everything out it was the same price as renting out a nearby winery venue that already included catering and furniture and I didn’t have to go through all the stress of organising all those extras that you need in a blank venue that most venues just include.

I feel like we are forgetting one major inexpensive venue: churches. Some churches require you to be of the same denomination as the church you’re wanting to get married in, but not always. There’s gorgeous glass chapels, churches with stained glass, old rock churches, etc. I personally got married in my own church, so they didn’t charge anything since I was a member (and luckily for me, my church is a pretty one!) If you’re not religious and getting married in a church is a no-go, I totally understand. I just wanted to point out that they’re a beautiful option and adding a bunch of petals to an aisle is always a nice touch :)

Just make sure the host knows you want to do a wedding there, I looked into this for my wedding but pretty much all the nice places were strictly no events, and after contacting the ones that didn’t specify that they also said no. To be honest I looked at a bunch of "Non-traditional" venues and they were all just as expensive as regular venues :( the 'cheap' venues had a lot of restrictions to them, too. We looked at a few national/state parks and while gorgeous and super cheap, they had a lot of issues solved by spending a little more on a traditional venue. Issues with decorations, parking, rentals, etc. The biggest issue was TIME. Tons of those venues have time constraints for setup tear down. We looked at 3 different state parks in Northern FL, Southern GA that all only gave 4 hours total from start of ceremony to cleaned up and out of the venue after reception. Lots of them don't allow set up of anything until 1-2 hours before ceremony start time. They are gorgeous and great if you don't want a big budget, but my fiance and I realized at least for us that spending the money on a venue that knows how to handle a wedding was PRICELESS when it came to our peace of mind.

I'll add my comment for anyone in San Diego that may be here! As I'm sure you know, Southern California isn't inexpensive! We had our wedding at the Coronado Community Center, didn't sound the most appealing but hands down gorgeous. Our biggest cost was catering/bartending, then photography, venue fee, videographer, etc. In that order. We fell in love with this one location.. $750 rental fee. Sounds perfect right?! Looking at the fine print, it literally included nothing. Not even the parking lot to the building!! You want to use the parking lot? That’s an extra $500. Table and chairs? An extra $500. What are the pros and cons of an "all inclusive" venue (venue comes with service staff, food, bar, possibly even a space for the ceremony) vs. Going piece meal with a venue and vendors (venue is just the space and all other vendors are arranged by the couple). Thanks in advance!
@sadieann10365 жыл бұрын
Make sure to ask about vendor agreements and limitations. Some that do food will also require the cake from them. So if you have a vendor you really want to use or don't want to do something totally traditional, they might now work with you. They might charge a lot more for the amenities they provide versus average cost in your area. The big pro is it's easier to coordinate with one big vendor than many individual vendors. They probably offer a wedding coordinator as well. Probably handled clean up

But in the end, my daughter was married and we do have some beautiful photos ( from guests phones, as the designated camera malfunctioned due to the heat).

Wouldn't the cost of renting chairs, generators, etc end up offsetting what one would save on some of these inexpensive venues?

Additional ideas: Campsites, Art Galleries, Barns/storage buildings, Cabins, Churches, Many hotels have garden areas and event spaces (even Holiday Inns)

The most elegant wedding and reception I've ever attended was in an art gallery in downtown Los Angeles. Very few chairs & benches (just for older people), no kids (a stipulation of the gallery), wonderful huge cold appetizer table, wedding cake (made by me, a pastry chef), champagne, soft drinks, water, coffee & tea. It took place in the late afternoon, didn't last overly long, and was really fabulous. Sometimes less is more.

Planetariums! That's where we are doing our ceremony! The reception is located downstairs as the whole event space is in our local Union Station in KCMO

Another avenue to explore in the same vein as community centers: Event Halls belonging to fraternal organizations like Elks, Eagles, Knights of Columbus, VFW, etc. these can be hit or miss as sometimes they are on the dingey side but some are beautiful! They tend to be cheap and usually even have a bar & bartender included too.

Hi Jamie! Can you go over rehearsal dinners and rehearsals? I’m worried it’s going to be so many people, almost like have two receptions. Do you decorate like a reception? Is there an invite standard?

I've followed you for years and appreciate all the advise and ideas you give out! Your uploads on Tuesday evenings spark so much joy for me. I think I've watched most if not all of your videos, but if you ever run out of ideas, can you delve into a restaurant reception? Especially for restaurants that don't regularly host wedding receptions? I'm thinking about a public park wedding then going to a restaurant for dinner/lunch (haven't decided timing yet), but wondering what logistics are involved. Ballpark costs to rent out the restaurant? I assume it's more than just adding up the dishes you want from their menu. I know some of these are probably difficult to answer accurate but I would love to hear your thoughts! Thank you again for all that you do!

Hi Jamie! What is your opinion on a venue that has a food/beverage minimum? Me and my fiancé think we found the perfect venue but they have a food/beverage minimum requirement of $3500. However, we get our reception room for free.

How about a beach? I know I’m Australia atleast you can get pretty cheap prices on beach permits for weddings

Try Knight of Columbus or American Legion halls if you're literally just looking for nothing more than a big indoor space. They're usually really cheap ($100-$200/hr).

A great place for a small reception could be a restaurant that the couple loves. We got married on a beautiful public Bridge that was used to access ski hills on the other side but since it was in the summertime they didn't charge us for that space at all. And then we talked to the owners of the pub at that Ski Resort and asked if we could do the reception there. We had to push our reception time back a little bit further than what we would have liked but it made the whole perception incredibly cheap because the pub already had a DJ so for a wedding with 30 guests we paid $1,200 in total

I used to work in a zoo and SO many people got married there! It's to the point that the zoo has specific rooms and catering etc. for weddings, so it's basically a regular wedding venue now lol.

Caitlin Jenkins Same. I couldn’t believe it when - literally 3 days ago - I found an incredible venue open on a Saturday date summer 2020, at a county park. An amazing modern building with 20-foot tall floor to ceiling window wall overlooking a lake. And free ample parking. $1600 total!

Down the street from me, they have an old Coca Cola factory turned wedding venue; they also converted the historic post office into a wedding venue. Both super gorgeous!!!

I absolutely agree that you need to tell your Airbnb host you are having a wedding. However I did this and the host told me it would be an additional $1,000. My wedding is only having 11 people in total (this includes the officiant, photographer, fiancé and myself). It’s a very small wedding with only parents and siblings. I found a new place that I love but I am afraid the same thing will happen. I do not understand why the additional cost is necessary as the host would not be providing anything additional for my wedding. There would be a dinner after but no dance party or anything loud and wild. If anyone has any advice on this topic I would love it!
@marielespinal884 жыл бұрын
Ashley Johnson I think since you’re having such a small wedding you shouldn’t tell the air bnb host. Usually weddings will have 50+ people which would have more restrictions for these airbnb host but I highly doubt a party of 11 would warrant so many issues

Where I live there is a few community centers that everyone gets married at. Looking, my fiancé and I were not thrilled about getting married at the place his cousin just had the year prior. But they just built a brand new center RIGHT near our church and bam! They had even built a bigger one further away for about the same price but we couldn't bring in our own food. It's literally soooo nice I am floored and SO affordable!! Less than 1,000 and while not huge hey less people I have to buy food for hahaha

Does anyone have venue suggestions that include cabins or another type of sleeping arrangements for the family?? I’m looking for state parks and other places! We’re okay with destination weddings and want something smaller, but preferably in the south east !

When we started venue hunting I really wanted the whole barn wedding dealio with an outdoor ceremony. Sadly a majority of the ones in our area were out of our price range. So instead of having the whole wedding at a barn we just found one to take our photos at! So it still looks like I had a barn wedding when we really just borrowed one. And my husband was happy because we ended up going with an indoor ceremony and reception that was in our budget. Compromise!

My husband and I got married in a Victorian cemetery (and no it wasn't a goth kind of wedding!). Where we live there's this beautiful Victorian cemetery that's essentially in the middle of a woodland and they have a wooden structure in the middle of it where you can get married. If was magical! For our reception we hired an old fire station turned cafe' with massive red fire doors and a really chilled vibe. A bit different but was definitely able to add a lot of personal touches and make it our own!

This helps solidify what i have already looked into, I am having difficulty deciding on location due to estimated attendance. Our date is set for Halloween, which is the day we originally met. We dont want to budge on it. So it has been an issue with available plumbing at my local parks because they shut the bathrooms and other water sources off by October. I am looking into a couple community centers and seeing what accommodations are available currently
