This might be the exact thing I was looking for. With travel trailers being so expensive due to Covid, we are sticking to tent camping and now I can utilize the trailer to transport our camping gear along with kayak leaving my pickup bed free for all the crap the kids want to bring including bikes. Are you concerned about hot weather softening the kayak causing droop and dents?

No, I don't worry about any of that. I only put them on here when I'm transporting and store them when not using.

You have a very clever idea, and I am trying to figure if I can do this on my mini trailer. It's a Lowe's 3.5-ft x 5-ft Wire Mesh Utility Trailer Item #253168Model #3.5X5LSHS, that I tow behind a Toyota Camry. We have 2 ocean kayaks, and they're 15'. Don't know if I can balance them right on a 5 ft long trailer. What do you think?

Looks like the tongue may not be long enough. I have seen folks do tongue extensions on smaller trailers. Too keep the lower center of gravity, you could mount two poles directly to the top of the side rails. That may be an option for you. Hope these help.

How do you secure the kayak on the truck rack?

My trailer is 4 ft wide. Can the uprights on this rack slide in to 4 ft or would you have to drill holes to attach the cross bars?

The truck rack that I'm using is fully adjustable and should fit almost any size trailer.

How do you secure the kayak down on top?

I use cince straps. Across the top of the kayak and under the bars on each side of the kayak. Then snug it up.
