@jean paul I have had 4 in a row since 1995 and have had no issues with any of them. I put 170k miles each on the first 2 and still see them around town after I sold them. 3rd one 100k miles when it was totaled in a very bad 6 rollover accident that we all walked away from with minor injuries and yes it was for sure partly if not all due to the integrity of the vehicle that it ended this way. My current one is 10 years old now with 30k miles as I no longer work so don't put the miles on it like I did while still working and it is like a brand new car and has had zero issues. One key thing to longevity and reliability to any vehicle is how you maintain them. If you treat them badly they will perform badly. 4 in a row can not just be a luck thing. Just saying. Not in any hurry to change my current one but when the time comes it will for sure be replaced with a 5th one.

Yep, learned my lesson on this with my old A3. Cheap to buy, ridiculous to maintain. Water pumps (there are two) failed at 60,000 miles and cost two grand. And it still leaked oil and coolant. Great car to drive, no fun to live with.

$1000 per water pump is not bad. We have a 2016 mondeo (fusion) from new with full service history. The water pump failed it cost $1000 plus towing. Headlight bulb replacement was $400 because the bumper has to come off. Even regular traffic cars cost to maintain

Purely anecdotal but I owned a 2014 A6 for 4 years and 60k miles. Never had single problem with it. Just did the manufacturers suggest maintenance and it ran like a dream. It was the 3rd Audi I had owned at the time and all of them were completely problem free.

Ya theyre well made from my experience too. My dads A6 runs like a dream after 125.000 miles, with only one small repair Just recently. Our audi has just had normal maintenance every 6 months, and oil changes every 18.000 miles i think. Its an Audi A6 2013, 2.0 liter 4 cyl diesel with a manual gearbox People and the statistics always say to avoid the germans but ive always seen them run often very good if maintained properly, but i dont know. Its very contradicting. Taxis are often mercedes E classes, and they somehow make often more than 300.000 miles. Either im crazy or the statistics are just a bunch of bullcrap.

Most reliable car i ever owned was my 2014 Mercedes C300 that I bought used with low miles in 2014 and still have it in 2022. I do my own work and the only thing it really needed was brake pads and brake fluid flush along with yearly oil changes and the air filter change every 2 years since i only put 7k a year on it. Front brakes are by far the easiest car to change on the C300, compared to my Fords and Audi. Did front break pad swap in 30 min, they come out and in like a freaking Atari cartridge.

Agree on everything, including Jag and Landrovers. Also agree on break my wallet. I had two 650i coupes and they both required hefty maintenance bills. @@jimbell122 For what it's worth, I own a 2013 XK and I have only minor issues with the infotainment, like the system forgetting that a USB drive is plugged in. Other than that, everything is in good condition though. From what I hear, the Ford era models are generally rather reliable, at least XF and XK. Never looked into the XJ, so that might just be the odd one out. A neighbour of mine owns an F-Pace and says it's been one of the more reliable cars he's owned, coming from mostly BMWs. Range Rovers are a bit hopeless though :(

i have a 1997 BMW Z3, it’s not often but a very few times of the year one makes it to my local junkyard and I restock on parts. I’m lucky that my last three donor cars at the yard have guaranteed my car usability for at least another 3-4 years. And hey, there’s always eBay. i got 4 new original BMW struts for my car for $500 less than the dealer from a guy selling in England. I've had nearly every brand of German car, more than once. But as the 90's came, the quality took a huge nose dive. I'm a Lexus guy now, it's pretty awesome to not be on a first name basis with everybody in service as well as their wives and kids, exchanging Christmas cards every year. A realtor friend drives nothing but Audis. I don't think he's had one as long as a year (he leases). He had one A6's engine blow up - literally - at 17k miles. I guess if you're ok with leasing it doesn't matter. I like to buy a car and drive it until the wheels fall off.

Same. Owned many of ze Germans but, after starting a family and not feeling like having cars in the shop all the time, went Lexus and didn't look back. Lexus cars don't drive nearly as well as my previous Audis or GTIs or have that feel of passion, but something about only needing oil changes and even those are cheap(ish) to do PLUS the level of service at the stealership for repairs that cost less is outstanding.

I agree with Tomas. My family's owned two Audi A6s and never had a problem with either. We got our first one in 2008 and it ran reliably for a decade. I'm talking multiple road trips cross-country over the years, plus many many cold Northeast winters. Decided to trade it in for a 2018 A6 and that one's been running just as well so far. Nothing to my recollection needed to be serviced, aside from tire changes, but that can be done anywhere. However, when the odd issue arises, you WILL have to take it to Audi. That's inconvenient and expensive, but at least rare, in my experience.

I've owned many cars including several BMW's and they have been amazing. I have an X3 right now and have had ZERO issues. The WORST car I ever owned was a Volkswagen Jetta GT, there was a new issue every single week and it cost a ton to repair. My water pump and entire coolant system failed several times and was uber expensive. I knew many people with VW's including Jetta, Passat, Rabbit , and Golfs and they all had major issues. I vowed to never buy a VW ever again and never have, never will. As a car guy I can tell you that if you just want a car to get from here to there that holds value get a Toyota or Honda, they are super reliable, inexpensive to repair and hold their value even with high mileage. If you love a driving experience that's where you start moving into the high-end brands but DO YOUR RESEARCH...Look at customer reviews on KBB and Edmunds. Good luck!

They'd even swear that their trash 7 series or A7 that's in limp mode from a dead turbo and failing electronics and cracking engine hoses, are as reliable as any toyota. and when you ask them how much mileage they have on those trash cars, the owner replies with a straight face that he has put on a "massive" 20 000 miles with issues that he considers as only "regular maintenance". The real problem is that these fan boys have never driven an actual well made reliable car, so their trash-on-wheels is legit the only experience they have of "reliability".

The 3.0TFSI Eaton supercharged motor is awesome. The water pump and thermostat are perishable items, and replacing them requires removal of the supercharger, but the whole job can be done for under $1500 and the pulleys and ECS can be upgraded at that point for a ton more power. These motors are very reliable even when tuned. The issues are the timing chain tensioner and very rarely the DSG control board. Both of those are pricey, but pretty rare. With that one, as long as you knew to change the transfer case oil at some point despite Jaguar not thinking it ever needed it, you'd be fine. The current one's a supercharged XE, and at 73,000 miles it hasn't blown up or anything yet! Indications are it'll be good for a fair while yet. Thing with used luxury cars is that they usually have odd service requirements that the OEM doesn't disclose and sometimes just doesn't know about. Any time you see the words "sealed for life," first thing to do is figure out how to crack the thing open.

Yes! You clearly know your old European cars. I have 1997 BMW Z3, the differential, manual gearbox, oxygen sensors are for the life of the vehicle. Thank God for online community forums, because what the scumbag accountants at BMW financial meant by life of the vehicle, they actually meant the planned-obsolescence date. I change my oil every 7500, and everything else ABSOLUTELY gets flushed out every two years, regardless of low miles or not. Hey, the way i see it, buying $200 worth of oil and spending three days to swap them all is still a LOT easier than buying a new car and working years to pay off the loan + sticker value. My baby is 25 years old and still purring like new 👌🏽

@Ian Louden The 3.0 X-Type with a manual is one of the most entertaining cars I've owned-more fun than a 2014 Fiesta ST was. I flogged the everloving crap out of that car, and with a good set of tires on it it just kept coming back for more like a puppy wanting a ball. It was superb on Tail of the Dragon as I gave it my all to try keeping up with a dude on a Ducati!

Is this video from the person who lives in the studio apartment and rides a bike daily? I owned 2 generations of Jaguar XJL 2011 and 2017. I had never ever had an issue with one of those. Next owner who bought a car from me happy with a car as well. Mostly some reported issues with infortaiment because of the owners ignorance. Also, If you call $100k car cheap I'm not sure who is this video made for, ultra rich billionaires?

I actually just bought an 08 S6 V10 and absolutely love it! Just waiting for the time when I pay the fortune to get it back on the road but it’s worth it to me. Seems pretty well taken care of so hopefully if I stay on top of maintenance it won’t be too bad but that’s where my 86 will come in. As a wise man once said they are unbelievable when they are broken and they are unbelievable when they work and are able to be driven.

@@moejohnson8459 Mixed reviews...haters will allways be there, but I don't know where they find all that crap stories. I have it for 3-4 years now with less money spent than my wifes A4 2.0tdi 2016. I have driven everything, good, bad , cheap, expensive and very expensive cars, but when I got my hands on this S8, I knew this is it. For me it is the last good proper car to drive ever made and there will be no more like this, beacuse of those idiots in greenpeace saving the planet bullshit. I use it for my family with two children in the back and not for racing and more I drive it, more I feel it was made for more than 1M km. I have about 290k km and it feels like 2-3 year old car. When I bought it, everyone I know had some bad words for it, after a year, everyone want to buy one, even for a lot more money that I paid. And spare parts are very cheap, don't forget it is not a new car and you can do 3/4 of work on everything if you don't have two left hands. First owners had a lot money for servicing, so find one with good history and you will be ok. Don't buy with ceramic brakes and Banq&Olufsen speakers, that is very very expensive to service...and look for that aluminum cover on top of the engine ( don't know english word for it ) when it was replaced. It needs new one every 200-250k km. 10 years ago was 7500eur to replace at the audi dealer, now you can buy it new for 1300eur and replace it yourself :)) Don't worry too much, you can allways sell it ;)

exactly, I don’t know much about the other cars but I know a lot about the jags and I can say confidently that the jag segment was BS, post 1990 jags suffer from an unfair reputation of unreliability, vice versa with modern mercedes benefiting from past reliability reputation. the 4.2L is bulletproof and even better than the 4.0 since it doesn’t need the preventative maintenance chain tensioners, otherwise the 4.0 is great too. I see them beat up all the time uncared for with 200k plus miles.

For whatever reason Jaguar seem to get shit on in the states. Maybe it's because of parts availability they're expensive to repair but here in the United Kingdom parts are obviously easier to come by and mechanics tend to be quite familiar with the brand.
