I was thinking about this sort of design today and you guys improved on it a lot - did it simply and cheaply. What I also like is once your bikes are stored there you have the entire bed to put other stuff like a bed or a kitchen or whatever suits you

Absolutely! It really is an ideal storage location. We've been using it for nearly 3 years now. Still loving it.

I thought I would do the same thing, but my Trek Top Fuel Large 29" is just a bit too long to fit between the doors. I took it to the Ford dealer a couple days ago and tried raising the front up almost to the ceiling and it still wouldn't quite fit. I could remove the rear wheel also, but that complicates things a bit. Thanks for the video though. If I can find a decent way to support the rear derailer I might think about removing the rear wheels also.

We revised the platform and now carry two Trek Rail emtb bikes in our shorter extended cab (Super Cab) F250. My bike is a Large frame 29s. Yes it is possible. The fork needs to sit just above the door pocket. You need to play with the elevation and angle of the bike. It isn't simple with a big bike but it is possible. We can load/remove either bike independently with this configuration. We may do another video showing our revised platform setup. But don't give up! Just keep playing with it.

@@TruckCamper Thanks, I looked up a Rail 7 and it says the wheelbase is about 124 cm compared to 121 on my Top Fuel 9.7, so it sounds like I should be able to get mine in there also. I will give it another try.

@@SteveJones-qi5hn It is tight. Need to work the angles and proper elevation. Our forks no longer sit on top of the platform. They fork mounts are mounted on the vertical end of the platform. Essentially the fork sits in the door cubby cupholder space.

Hi, In the process of building out a similar setup in my 2016 Ford f150 extended cab. Was wondering if you could provide any updates or changes you have made as well as some of the dimensions based on your setup? How high off truck floor did you end up i am playing with around 11 or 12 inches? Also the depth of your platform is it around 30" what about the length did you go all the way to the doors around 60"? Thanks for the feedback.
@TruckCamper8 ай бұрын
We moved this exact platform into our 2020 F250 Super Cab. It bolted right up and fit perfectly. Platform height will vary with the bikes you want to haul. We built ours to the maximum height to still fit the bikes and work to load unload. Lots of testing is required! Close the doors and measure the width. We did further customize the mounts for our e-bikes (Trek Rail) which are significantly longer. We ended up moving the fork mounts off the top of the platform to the end. Our bike forks essentially sit in the door cupholder area now.

Do you think a setup like this could handle an xl 29er?
@TruckCamper Жыл бұрын
We modified our platform and currently carry two Trek Rail EMTB bikes (29ers) mine is a large. It could be possible!

I wonder if something like this could work for a regular size truck such as F150, RAM 1500 etc etc with a smaller quad cab. At least for one bike if not two.
@TruckCamper3 жыл бұрын
It should. We had a very similar setup in our Tundra Double Cab (smaller of the cabs). It fit 2 bikes. Needed to be a bit of playing with angles to get them to mount well. The best part is we can remove either bike independently... IIRC our platform length is 30" - The modern F150 has the same cab as the Super Duty (no issues for sure). Hope that helps!

How was removing the rear seat? Thinking about trying to do this on a 2017 but can’t find much info on seat removal.
@TruckCamper3 жыл бұрын
Rather easy. Think there was a release pull for the rear seat back (if I remember correctly). Otherwise, just removing bolts.

Are those both 27.5? Do you think a 29 would fit? I have a diy platform just like yours and I want to get a new bike. this is how I’m planning on storing, in the truck back seat.. thanks for the video, gave me some ideas.
@TruckCamper3 жыл бұрын
Yes, we are running 27.5s. I think they would. You'd just need to adjust the platform height a bit if not. We took the platform from the 2019 Crew Cab and bolted it into the 2020 Extended Cab (direct bolt in) and we still fit 2 bikes no problem! Glad it could give you ideas!!! Inside storage rocks. :)

This is an excellent design! I have a Ford Expedition and may copy your design to transport my 2 bikes. What is the size of your board and why you did not set both of your bike straight? Thanks so much for sharing!
@TruckCamper4 жыл бұрын
Thanks! Think we are about 30" depth. The angle helps with the bike length and ability to load either bike without contacting the other. Just mock up the platform, determine height with bike test fit. Crazy thing is the platform bolted into our extended cab from the crew cab. Hope that helps!!

@@TruckCamper quite the contrary - it's only sold on Cannondale bikes because it's their trademarked design. It has less stiction than almost all other designs, super strong, works fabulous. Race proven by the C'dale team. My new 29er has a carbon frame and lefty, full suspension, 25 lbs.
