I agree with all you said, But on your RV, You only got the RV but in truck camper case, You have a truck and one RV. That’s huge point for someone like me. If one of my truck is in service, I just use my other truck and cary on 😅.

True! Trailers are a hassle. But for certain trips it was fun having the SxS adventures and mini motorcycle. That trip was 3 months. Nice staying out with toys. But in general truck camper is best with no trailer.

We haven't used the Falken tires. However, my observation of them off road has lost my interest. Less than stellar traction. And weight. But there are aspects that are good. Just not enough for a long term test for our rigs. Currently running Nitto Recon Grappler. Been a great experience so far. Just depends on use and needs tho

I am glad you made it safe but I strongly will recommend all of you to watch the payload not only how much you can haul or your tires can handle. That truck was built only for your camper DRY and that’s when you lucky.
@TruckCamper11 күн бұрын
We do know the numbers. It properly handles the weight way way better than any stock truck. Suspension, tires and chassis are more than capable of the load the truck carries. It was thoughtfully modified with actual loads being carried.
@ata142111 күн бұрын
@ don’t get me wrong, I know that very well, But I’ve seen insurances refuse to pay because the load was over payload capacity on the door. I didn’t mean to say you didn’t pay attention. I have 3500 with 5100 payload and I need to keep my fresh water tank empty while travel to stay under. We both know the truck capable of way more but insurance and highway patrol will look at your door tag numbers. That’s all I wanted to say. Great rig and thanks for sharing.

Well trained... or poorly trained? It is unfortunate when the bears become a nascence. Like an oversized rat. Better for them to stay doing wild things in the wild. :)
@asktheanimals17 күн бұрын
@TruckCamper , I grew up in the mountains learning how to NOT feed the bears. This was a fluke & a rare mistake. This was a permaculture property, & we even had bear rated electric fencing around our chickens. Trash was kept locked. Rare break ins will not train a CO mountain bear. Sadly, as more & more humans move in, they don't know how, or are unwilling to secure their food & trash. Rather than learn from their mistakes & learn to cohabitate with amazing animals, they call CPW to have the animals killed.

@TruckCamperАй бұрын
Yes, from actual physical parts that is the difference. Make sure to scale the front + rear axle loaded. You want to ensure tires have enough capacity and proper pressure for load. Caution should be exercised anytime hauling or towing near the limits. Upgrade parts as needed to ensure safety and handling.
@BrettSeilerАй бұрын
This looks great. I have a similar setup, and I spent all summer just stuffing my two bikes in the back of the truck with the seats removed. Currently I just have the axle mounts similar to yours except I attached them to a 2x4. I'm trying to come up with a more clever setup. If I put the work into building something, I want it to be significantly easier / faster to load than my current arrangement. Have you seen or contemplated any slide configurations? Do you think your current setup is significantly better than just tossing the bikes in the back?
@TruckCamperАй бұрын
We have multiple videos on the interior bike rack (check them out). Slides are not possible as the bikes need to drop and tilt while loading. Lots of test fitting! And adjusting. But we can load/unload either bike in any order. It's tight but works awesome when dialed in and much quicker than most options. Plus secure. Have fun!!! We love interior racks

I've documented based on similar builds / weight. If you had the exact same truck and tested with same weight hardside and popup camper at the same speeds... you'd find the mpg is different but not by a significant margin. Both significantly impact aerodynamics. Keeping speed under 60mph is best regardless. We have well over 50k miles truck camper hauling with two hardwall and one popup. And documented mileage. Test for yourself and report back. Curious what you discover

I have the same one and it comes with a spacer and longer bolt to install where the rod mounts to the frame if you have any kind of lift. That will eliminate that extreme angle you have. If you do not install that ASAP your bearing on the other end won't last very much longer. Also, the instructions specifically say not to exceed 7 degrees between the unit and steering rod. That is why that o-ring came out. You might be okay though - -by the looks of the underside cleanliness I don't it goes off road much. Hope this helps.

We purchased our first new (to us) class A 34 ft motorhome (Ford 460 Chassis, 1997 Winnebago Adventurer) over the summer. The old lead-acid 6V deep cycle house batteries were tired and inefficient so we're upgrading to four LiFePo4 12.6V 100Ah Power Queen self-heating units. - for a total of 400 useable amp-hours. Lots to figure out here, but we certainly will need a DC-DC charger, as well as cables that will run from the chassis battery (just behind the front bumper) all the way to the storage area under the queen bed at the back of the rig - a distance of around 30 ft. This is necessary to keep the batteries from ever being exposed to temps lower than -4F (-20C), which would damage them. (We're in Alberta, Canada btw, where temps can sometimes dip below -30C or even -40C/F). Locating the batteries in the bedroom where a heat duct and ambient room heat can reach them is therefore a must. But with that long of a cable run and a total of 400 amp-hours' worth of storage, how much amperage would our DC-DC charger need to produce in order to charge that battery bank in a timely manner without damaging them? These batteries do have a 100-amp BMS. Four hours of engine idling seems excessive for this purpose, but whatever it is - it is. How many amps is your charger putting out to charge your 200Ah bank in four hours?
@TruckCamper3 ай бұрын
50amp DC Charger = 50amps per hour 400ah batteries = 8 hrs from zero to 100% Wire size calculator = www.wirebarn.com/Wire-Size-Calculator-_ep_41.html You can run multiple DC chargers. But need to size wiring accordingly. Oversized wires is safe. Smaller gauge wires will heat up and be a fire hazzard. You also need to install proper fuses and disconnect switch to keep be safe. Make sure your alternator has enough output for whatever load you want to add. Otherwise it will burn up quickly. Most of the older generation vehicles have much lower alternator power output as the electrical demands decades ago were much less. Do lots of research if doing it yourself... Otherwise find an experienced 12v electrician.

@@TruckCamper good to hear- i just know from off roading tires get kicked back real hard sometimes and it seemed very close - glad it worked out!
@TruckCamper3 ай бұрын
That could be. But typically on compression or front impact. Due to the control arms being in the rear... as the suspension compresses it pushes the tire forward. Also, in general high impacts would be with the wheels in somewhat of a straight forward position. Cycling the suspension fully like we showed is the best method to verify clearance through the entire range and steering angle.

I’m wondering, if you had a tape or painted stripe the length of your truck bed at the center line and a centerline mark on the front of the camper at floor level, assuming you could see both through the rear window or a camera , would this aid in loading the camper and keeping it centered.

We kept it in the middle range. Fox has a frame spacer & longer bolt available (contact customer service) this will help reduce the angle if lifted. Getting it turned properly is crucial to keep it from binding check full lock turning and compressing/extending suspension and turning. I've seen these snap off from improper positioning. Ours worked great but we did take extra time / testing to ensure position.
