Cheap NEW PS5 compatibility for your fightstick!

Today let's look at how to enable Sony Ps5 compatibility on a fightstick board. PS5 pcbs are typically very expensive, but with this new solution, a user could feasibly put together a PS5 fightstick on the cheap.

Went to my first local this past Friday with my flatbox with a magic boots wired up via usb pass-through and it worked on both ps4 and ps5 playing SF6 well over 8 mins :)

how did you connect the magic boot to your flatbox and also connect it to ps5 at the same time? are you saying that you installed this passthrough mod into your flatbox by opening it? can you clarify a little.

I took the Magic Boots dongle out of the plastic housing and wired the USB pins to two available pads on the RP2040 board powering my flatbox. Then i used the configurator to set those pins and voila! @@leonz5020

I ordered mine, the wiring was slightly different, might be newer. Used your video for the web setup stuff, thanks! Got a cheap ps5 stick now. (Converted my old xbox 360 rap 3 ex) i had a brook ps3/4 plus in there but it would have cost me more for a up5 than it did for the passthrough and gp2040, already had the mayflash magic boot v1.1. And i got the ps3/4 plus freed up for a future build!

There's that wall of exclusivity they want to maintain, but I think it serves to artificially drive prices. Sony-licensed sticks seem crazy high to me during this gen of consoles. This helps circumvent that a bit. Thanks for watching.

Yeah, it did not work in that way, because it didn't have the secret sauce to convince the PS5 that it is a licenced PS4 stick. This passthrough method, on the other hand, does manage to do that.

GP2040-CE is compatible with PC, PS3 and PS4, Nintendo Switch, Steam Deck, MiSTer and Android, so this likely isn't the best option for you right now. For more retro consoles, you might want to invest in a Brook Retro board. That covers a lot of the old ones including PS2 compatibility.

Technically yes, but according to TheTrain, it’s advisable to have resistors on the data lines and a fuse on the power line.

It does. However, it is specific to the type of board you saw in this vid. These days there are PCBs which incorporate all the tech you saw here, so no need for all these extra cables. If you still have this board though, it absolutely still works.

Hey, let me try and break it down further for you then. 1) This is a cool and exciting mod because with this passthrough installed, it opens up PS5 play for many games, 2) The whole unit is going to be about HALF of what Brook charges, so it may encourage more people to build more fightsticks, 3) You can use the files in the description and utilize a PCB assembly service to basically make these at a reasonable price, 4) If you don't want to do it all yourself, then there are several vendors (SGF and Buttercade) which are going to be selling the finished boards ready to go (here in another week or two), 5) Basically, this is a super fast firmware and these boards are cheap enough to really open the doors for more people to start building sticks toward PS5-compatibility. I'll look into it for future vids that are fairly technical.) Anyway, this was the first sort of product of its kind, but just today, files for an even more streamlined all-in-one PCB are up for use. So that means you can pay a PCB assembly service to get you some PCBs, or even easier, just buy one from a vendor. There will undoubtedly be several up on etsy here in a few weeks. Big thanks for spreading the visibility of the OpenStick Community. I'm in the process of getting the parts to slap together a leverless controller and they've been a big help in both the hardware and the advice departments. Not right now. Though Brook is developing a Wingman converter that should work with all non-fighting games. I think they said the plan to release it in November, but I have no firsthand experience with it yet.

I bought this exact one for the slab mini hitbox for the ps5 and it doesn't work at all. It flashes the blue light on rhe converter but nothing else

You may need to update the firmware? I'd start with that. Then, the r/fightsticks discord and/or the gp2040ce discord can help troubleshoot if the issue persists. Or save money and play your fighting games on PC. Just purchase the zero delay usb encoder to customize your arcade stick, and you're set.

There's zero reason to buy a Zero Delay board when you can buy any of a number of RP2040-based boards and run GP2040-CE with lower latency and better features.

I'm all for playing on PC, but that's not always an option for everyone. And many offline events still have to use PS5s and such, so this is definitely a cool, comparably cheap option to get more people more access.
