Cheap pedal drive fishing kayak review. (HooDoo Sports, Tempest 120P) 5 years later.

This is a review of my fishing kayak I've been using for the past 5 or 6 years. Pro's and con's, was it worth it, and what I think about it up to this point.

I got a new 2023 tempest 120P and hated it. It would have been ok, but it was very tippy. I spoke with many other people that were pretty excited to get it only to find out that many of them could not keep it upright. I never tipped in mine, but hated that I was constantly fighting to keep it upright. it immediately needed the steering cables replaced and adjusted properly. the rudder needed adjusting because it was too difficult to move with the cable. The pedal drive was pretty nice though and had no issues with that. I wound up selling it and getting a perception showdown 11.5. it is better in every way. I can stand and cast in it, it is incredibly difficult to flip and was only about $500 more. I am not a fan of HOODOO any longer since they pulled some crap when I was trying to get them to trade me for a different model. I originally wanted the older model like yours, but i live in colorado and nobody has any used ones here and HOODOO didnt have any older ones in stock. The older one is what I originally thought that was what I was getting. they pretty much did a bait and switch to me.

I had the same 2023 version except mine was gray and had the upgraded rudder flip over rudder system, I used it for one season and had to sell it, way too tippy for me! almost flipped it several times just landing a fish or turning sharp. it was a great entry level kayak but just not stable enough for me. Ended up with an Old Town 106 pdl best decision ever! super stable and oozes with quality!

looks like a copy of Native Watercraft . like everything is the same. looks good. My native was 2800. I would buy one of these.

Yes indeed. I think Trong’s yak is a Native and it’s almost a carbon copy of that. Price point is the big selling point honestly. Thanks brotha!!

Thats a great price for a pedal kayak, and to get over 5 years on it. Are they releasing new updates over the years? Would you upgrade with a HooDoo again?

Yes they have some newer stuff out. They’ve updated the style of their haul and have several different models. I noticed they’ve also gotten into to fishing reels which I’m curious about.

Nice video. I'm 6'4". Is it hard to pedal or very uncomfortable to pedal with our height?

I say no, but u will have the same difficulty as I do when trying to stand up. Not the most stable yak for tall folks if u need to stretch ur legs after a few hours of sitting. U can def do it.. just be careful
