So at first I thought the Ibanez sounded better, but then I tried closing my eyes, skipping ahead in the video, and seeing if I could guess which one I was hearing. I was like "oh yeah, that's definitely the Ibanez. Much clearer and crisper". ...opened my eyes and it was the Behringer.

I learned long ago not to dismiss cheap gear. In the 80's, I found a "no-brand" flanger that I picked up used for a fistful of dollars. I'm primarily a bass player and I used it to get a chorus effect on my fretless. It sounds fantastic. These days it's being held together with duct tape and super glue, but it sill works. Always give cheap gear a fair shot when looking for new stuff--you might be surprised sometimes.

This guitar snobbery thing is getting out of control. When I first started playing in the late 70's I can't recall any of this. You learnt to play on what you had and it didn't matter. Now everyone slates cheap gear to make themselves feel better for spending £500 on a pedal that sounds like the £20 model. Strange world we live in. Nice demo Marty and Happy New Year.

@justinbowlin8723 6 жыл бұрын
I agree with you to an extent.....especially at churches, holy cow those worship guitarists are the primary contributors to this boutique gear boom. However, I will say that part of what led to all this modern day cork sniffing is simply the fact that there are WAY more options available, and way more info. Plus, you know....marketing. Just the nature of the free market. Also, I think the quality of affordable and widely available gear was better in the 70s. In today's market, there is a lot of junk to sift through. Furthermore, I'd like to point out that the guy making this vid is playing an expensive guitar and amplifier. So he clearly has a preference for the high end stuff.

I've two Ibanez Tubescreamers, an Ammoon 'Vintage Overdrive', a Moorer Green Mile, maybe a couple of TS-style drives. And they all did the 'tubescreamer thing.' I just plugged 'em in and used them. Sounded fine. Only thing I'd say about the original is the Ibanez models are tough and well made so if you're going on a big tough tour that's maybe the biggest reason to buy those.

I saw that pedal is $20 new. Electronic components are inexpensive, pennies for the resistors, caps and transistors, amp chip probably a buck in volume. The difference is likely in the build quality, plastic vs metal case and the screen printing of the name. Then how they wired it both in cheap labor overseas factories. Put the Behringer electronics in a metal case and call it the "Marty Scream box" and people will say it is the best pedal ever and way better than that inexpensive Behringer pedal. hahaha. Great video Marty thanks.

No, The TO800 is available new for $25 retail. It is based on the 808. Now finding a TO100 is a bit harder, which is based on TS9, but just found one new for 30 bucks. Now the VT999 Vintage Tone Monster is about 100 bucks used, but it has a Tube and once you replace with a good one, wow. Also the VT991 based on the Chandler overdrive (like what David Gilmour used on DSOTMoon). Runs about 60-70 bucks. All sound pretty good IMO. Some of the Behringers are hard to find for sure like the Ultra Octaver (based on the Boss OC-2), still looking for this one at a reasonable price.

behringer usually does a 1to1 copy of the cirquitry of the pedals they try to emulate. so there's usually very little difference between the original and the behringer copy.
@theguynamedgio

thats because the are sonically identical. most companies buy their chip sets from behringer since they own and manufacture some of the most popular chips in the market, particularly their bucket brigade analog chips. found in their chorus/vibrarto and tremelo as well as their delay. i cant say anything bad about them. some people will say that they will break because the casing is plastic, ive owned a few for over ten years now and they work the same as they did day one. if anyone says its less reliable because its plastic, just remind them that glocs are make of plastic and those are designed to be used and take punishment.... just like these pedals. honestly i highly recommend their overdrive and their chorus both are amazing.

@thanasios1000
@thanasios1000 3 жыл бұрын
@@OceanViewMusic2000 Logicaly the metsl last loger than plastic, the ts 808 have metal box. The electronics ate exactly the same. I know some things about electronics and believe me they are the same thing. Everybody admit that. Now for the plastic box, i never seen a broken one, and i an 59 years old.. Very smal difference may you find, it does not matter if it will be forvthe worst or the better. Resistors, capasitors got a toilerance that makes then behave little differently. But this does not mean which will be better, they are just a little different. OK, we feel better to have the expencive one, but nothing to do with sound quality.

Tubescreamer had more of a high-end presence than the Behringer. However, for $90.00 less, I'll turn the knob to the right a hair to compensate... I have a bunch of Behringer pedals. I love 'em. Not what I'd call super road-worthy, but slap them on a pedal board with a programmable looper, and they really don't have to be.

My all-time fave setup is a (real) Lawrence L500 PU in the brige, wired up with it's OWN four-way telecaster type switch. Front coil, back coil,serries, parallel. A single coil on the Lawrence sound a LOT like a decent Tele bridge PU. The magic stuff happens when you use another regular 2-PU selector to mix a neck Strat PU with various bits of the Lawrence, separate V's on each.

Yeah the Monkey is a great pedal. It does a decent classic-rock crunch straight into a clean amp with the gain all the way up and it really excels at getting a good tight rhythm tone for the chugga chugga palm muted stuff. It doesn't have all the versatility of some of the higher end pedals, but it does sound just as good.

Any perceived difference in sound would come down to the individual specifications of the actual parts. I have both and whenever I think there's a difference I adjust knobs and find out different. The tone- it's in there. I prefer the Behringer OD300 however.

HEY MARTY! i think a great use for a cheap over drive like this [ $10-$15 ] would be to use it as a MORE switch with you diggy home amp because some of those switchers they sell as an after market product can be really pricey and if all you really want is a switch for a solo tone/boost a cheap pedal like this would save you some money instead of buying one of those after market switches.

That´s actually what I like about Behringers, in case you drop it and break it, one can just easily get another one and that´s another $20, I mean, you do the math and you can buy 4 or 5 Behringers for the price of one Ts9. No brainer.

Cool video! You know, I’ve always had pretty good luck with some Behringer pedals. Maybe not so much with their digital pedals that copy more expensive digital pedals, not really into digital anyway. But as far as their analog pedals go. Many times they pretty much nail it. I’ve been scoffed at by other guitarists for using the occasional Behringer pedal, ( I hear their little giggling and see them pointing) until I start playing that is. Then they change their tune about the pedals. They’ll actually wind up digging the tone. Don’t worry about being what I call, a “badge whore”. Be smart. Save yourself money and buy the much less expensive ones and just play. You might be pleasantly surprised!

It's probably all in my head but for some reason with EVERY comparison like this that I've seen when the more expensive pedal goes on I think the player puts a little more umph in their playing so it ends up sounding better to my ears but really in most cases they are sonically equal not just tube screamers all types of expensive overdrives and their cheaper clones. I think I usually get a clearer idea when someone a/b with a short loop already made. Idk it's still all good stuff!

I just bought a Behringer Model D synthesizer for $300. I don’t want to pay $3000 for Moog Model D, and I haven’t played them side by side, but based on demoes I hear, they are realllly close. Will it be working in 2035? Probably not, but I can just buy another. Also, who wants to lug around a forty pound hand made synthesizer worth thousand of dollars to a gig?

I've had the vintage tube overdrive on my chain for years...I use it as my main pedal running through my modded hotrod deluxe and my Les Paul...it's is very vintage sounding and great for pulling off old 50s surf stuff up to 70s rock..once you get into the 80s up you need another more modern pedal like an ocd but It will also work great as a lead boost pedal off of your amps dirty channel for leads..it has a thinner vintage tone so as a boost it help cut through the mix...the reliability of the vintage tube is a tank...it has never let me down...I have hundreds of hours on and off stage with it ...I would give an 8 out 10 ...I will never take this pedal out of my chain.

You had the level on the Tube Screamed set higher than the other pedal so it was flavoring your sound more, but I did hear a subtle difference in clarity on both settings and Ibanez was a bit clearer but if you are on a budget Berringer is the correct choice.

Not only cause of this vid or any other. Prices have risen on all kinds of equipment. 2 yrs ago I built a big board ,16 pedals, mostly Boss, MRX, and Elec H. for under $1000. Now I can't find any of these this cheap anymore. But I kinda made the switch to the cheaper stuff. Last 3 pedals bought are minis, Donner Echo square, Mooer Liquid phase, and Coolmusic modulation. Total for 3 just over $100. 1 used Boss, MXR or E H gonna be close to hundred or more.

I have to say that the Tubescreamer is better. Because my mate had one, and some famous people had them, so I had to have one and I couldn't let him have a better pedal than me. Then I decided that I need to have better than him, I bought a MESA Toneburst. Because it said 'Mesa' on it and it was expensive. Then he bought a Freidman OD-BE. And now I want one. Marty plays a $10 Behringer and sounds better than both of us. And there's the lesson kids.

I won the Behringer TO800 somehow online and it sits on my board next to an early 80s TS9. I use the Behringer as a solo boost and the TS9 for gain drive. They both have their uses. The TS9 seems to be a bit of a tone sucker so I have an EQ right after it.
