I moved to Tempe in 2003. Three years ago I began thinking about selling my house. I watched the prices go up and up. I thought about renting after I sold. A studio I had my eye on was $775. By the time I sold last year that studio was $1250. I looked around but there weren’t any cheap apartments in safe areas. I was priced out of buying a condo, so I moved to a cheaper state. Paid cash for a condo. And gas is $3.99.

Seems backwards thinking to me. I live in central Phoenix and my total spend is $600/mo and my house has appreciated an average of $2200/mo over the past 14 years. I've remodeled my house so it has a studio with a separate entrance so I could rent out most of the house for about $2000/mo if I wanted. I get many people say they can't afford to buy but imo what is really going on is people can't afford their dream house. The first house I bought was a dump in an OK, not great area. AND I had to get 2 other guys in the same boat to partner up to buy it. AND we got 1-2 roommates to help pay the mortgage. Yeah, kind of sucks to share a house...but it got us in. We fixed it up, sold and made enough profit for each of us to buy our own dumps. We fixed these up, got more roommates, repeat. If you can afford a $300k house you can afford a $600k house if you partner with someone. Houses in that range are huge. Turn it into a temp duplex so you have private areas. Get 2 other partners and you can afford $900k. That' $60k down at 20%, $1300/mo mortgage which is cheaper than rent.
@ericlomax17932 жыл бұрын
Not sure about Parker, as some houses there can be expensive and some places can be cheap. Depends on where you want to live in Parker. I do know that across the River in Big River, California there are lots of land you can rent for $250.00 a month there to put a mobile home or have an RV to park and stay there. As long as you pay your rent for the plot or space of land, nothing will happen to you, only the people who don’t pay their rent will have problems and even be evicted or the spot or space taken away from you. It is ran by CRIT ( Colorado River Indian Tribes) and they are landlords out there.

@APERSON2POINT011 ай бұрын
I think it's a dump. I drove uber in the valley from 2005 - 2013. It's on par with west valley. Unless you live in the northern east mesa area there are motels with prostitution and drugs and homeless walking the streets. It's a dense city with a strong Mexican influence in the older areas and downtown. Great for food but may be a cultual difference being from Glasgow. I would recommend the Maricopa area if you have a budget. Chandler and Gilbert are beautiful and great places to live in the southern ends close to the Rez if you can afford it. Queen Creek and San Tan or way way out west El Mirage, Sun City. My ideal is what was the edge of no where in Queen Creek but it grew way too fast in 10 years and got priced out.
@ryant3600 Жыл бұрын
Rio Rico is quickly becoming like everywhere else in AZ over priced. Rio doesn't really have anything. It has a tiny IGA grocery store that doesn't care much, a subway, little ceasars and a Wendys that's in a truck stop those are the only chain restaurants there. Two gas stations as well. You have to drive either to Green Valley or 15 miles to Nogales to go shopping. Plus, internet there is satellite and it sucks and is super slow. And Californians have started buying up everything there as well, so the prices have really gone up, which also increases the property taxes..

I moved to Sierra Vista and went from a 1 bedroom with 10 year old carpet, cold showers, a stove that didn't work. My place in Sierra Vista is a 2 bedroom and 2 bathroom bath built in in 2022. NOT ANY MORE.... same layouts are 2,000+ the unit across from us went up for rent and we were getting close to the end of our lease so we called out of curiosity ( mind you , SAME EXACT LAYOUT ) they were charging 2,300mo ! no garage. super small back yard. etc. we were luckily locked in before the covid happened. so we were lucky to only be paying 750mo. then they raised it to 950 and now they want to "renovate" so they can charge 1500+ luckily we found a similar layout , right down the street with a rv gate for 1300. you CAN get lucky BUT , it has gotten RIDICULOUS. most condo's / apt. are HIGHLY over priced. 1-2bedroom apts are wanting 1600-2200 mo. and thats BEFORE all there fee's / deposits etc.... if you dont mind driving , then i personally would recommend staying on the OUTSKIRTS ( hr + ) of town ( phx ) . phx is basically mini L.A. and san tan has become over populated over night due to all the new housing development in the last 3 yrs.

Sounds like Californication of AZ to me. Real estate pricing here in Lake Havasu City, no thanks to all the unscrupulous and greedy real estate agents here, and our close proximity to Commiefornya, is off the scale. A 2 bd/2 ba home about 1200 sq/ft is priced at $390,000.00 now, and that is an older home too. Commiefornyans have moved in here and jacked up our rents, housing prices in general, and now property taxes are being boosted into the stratosphere. Glad I got my place here when we did in 2005, paid $210K cash for my home, now worth $470K! All equity, but property taxes are on a steep upward swing because of all of the above. Looking hard at Show Low, as we have a 2nd home there. Time to punch the fuck out of here, it is getting like what we left so long ago across the river.

Here is my question, see if you can answer it. How much is left over from the Stimulus Monies that were allocated to the State of Arizona? Many other states are using the funds to give additional stimulus checks to the residents of those states. If you know please answer. I have been looking and cannot find the answer.

Yup, no easy answers. "Planning for life" begins in grade school. Have fun when you're young, don't go to college or work to develop a good skill, profession, or business, and you'll be poor, and suffer, your whole life. Tell your kids to put done the iPhone a get to the homework!!

Problem is affordable means no local jobs, if your job is internet based there is lots of cheaper places you can live but to make decent income you will live somewhere expensive.

True True. I lived in Crescent City CA 2000 - 2002 & relocated to Los Angeles, OC and San Diego for work. Then to AZ for affordability and my love for the desert and history here in 2013. Crescent City was beautiful up in the redwoods but I learned that a sma town will lead to a small pocket book. Lack of opportunities on many fronts.

@Hschlick842 жыл бұрын
Maybe Kingman or Bullhead City, but those areas suck in the summer weather wise and not many high paying jobs. Prescott is full of retirees that jack up property taxes and housing costs and lack a diverse economy. Middle & working class can barely afford to live there or singles. The demographics are out of balance here and need to be changed.

actually if you want cheap rent in a quality-of-life move to Nebraska. Nebraska is one of the six states in North America. that has the highest concentrate of Scandinavian in German. immigrants from Europe but if you want. decent infrastructure being fixed. very low drug use next to nonexistent homeless problem. no drought or supply shortages Nebraska is the place to move. to not Arizona but the problem is Nebraska. it gets well below zero in the winter. But not very many people like the cold.
