@@gavinvale2865 was going to say the same. I had a battery replaced by the AA and he told me "just drive it for 30 mins the errors will clear". since then I had loads of sensor errors & ended up spending £2k on replacement sensors only to find out that it was the battery all along. Seems that you need to use the VW software to let it know you have replaced the battery & input the new serial number. All this time by the way, I had a Carly, but there's no ability to change any of the battery settings with the ECU using the Carly software (which is a bit rubbish). I didnt bother renewing my Carly subscription as the functionality is too limited.

Great video. You captured why people keep buying Range Rovers despite their faults, because when they are behaving, there is nothing quite like them, the comfort and feeling you get sat in your semi aniline leather sofa chair looking down at every other car, that almost regal feeling of superiority and safety keeps most people addicted despite the ownership costs... and for the money, there is no alternative that gives you that. Me and my family and a dog travelled from England to Ukraine last year in snow 1417 miles and from Ukraine to Romania and back yesterday, and my L322 4.4 TDV8 Autobiography with 189k miles didn't miss a beat.

Defo took a brave pill on this road trip! Looking at the huge number of faults it’s either a dodgy earth or the battery is on the way out. It could be alternator slowly dying so intermittently dropping power and charge but it’s more likely battery related. Worth getting it tested, or if it’s super old then it would need to be replaced. For people criticising about lane hogging, it’s super common for a reason, especially on long road trips. You find another car making similar progress and they end up being your pace car, what they do you do too. On long journeys it would be super tiring for most people and that’s the trap that’s so easy to fall into. I noticed this pattern quite quickly and almost everyone does this on motorways, I’m confident enough that even the keyboard warriors on here would have done it themselves. Not saying it’s right but sharing my observations of our roads. This video was so wonderful to see your family making memories! The girls will remember this one for sure😊

If the fault happens again click on all of the fault codes in ONE of the sub-sections on Carly and see if a Canbus fault is shown - like a suspension module or ABS system. It may be a canbus fault caused by a faulty component causing the canbus to crash. There were some canbus errors on the first scan you did on the top levle screen, something like medium speed communication, so if you see a canbus fault in one of the sub modules that could confirm a component is crashing the canbus. If it is as I say, I don't know how to identify the faulty component, but I imagine the JLR forums will have people who will know more. The Canbus is a communication channel for the car's components and modules to talk to each other. A dodgy component can cause it to malfunction, and far as I understand it, cause errors all over the shop. Equally voltage errors in everything could show a dodgy earth strap, bad body control module/ECU or alternator problem. But Canbus throwing a wobbler, caused by a faulting sub component, would be my bet (I'm no Land Rover expert though).

Ben, this was a lovely family road trip video - please resist falling in the KZbinr trap of clickbait though. I watched the whole video to the very end, long story short: you've lucked out on a £15k Rangie which didn't leave you stranded on a 1,000 mile road trip. Also, don't promise tired children stuff you can't deliver ;) Tips: Check the battery health both switched off and when running. Check the tyre pressures (if they're too far off the air suspension can have a hard time levelling). Check the sensors on all four corners, they may just be dirty or the electrical connections corroded. Buy a GAP IID tool, it's designed for Land Rover products and is far better than the Carly can ever hope to be, plus, no annual subs. I have no connection to GAP other than that I own one for my L322.

Click bait is something that promises one thing and doesn’t deliver it. The thumbnail and title sums this up 🤷♂️ I even say in the opening 60 seconds it got us there and back and anyone who doesn’t want to watch a family road trip can skip ahead. it’s a family road trip vlog not an episode of the grand tour… if people don’t want to see real world family road trips I won’t film them 👍

@@dadcars Ben, please don't take my comment as criticism. I'm a parent, I have subscribed to the channel from the DadB9 days because I'm interested in your journey generally. I love what you do and how you do it. However, the thumbnail strays, in my humble opinion, close to clickbait because you titled it "It broke on our family trip" with a picture of a red warning symbol front and centre and two of your pickles with their hands over their faces. The car didn't "break" or leave you stranded, it threw a bunch of advisory faults. Yes, they were concerning in the circumstances and I would have done what you did by pulling over to check them with my GAP reader. I'm not a KZbinr, I don't know how the algorithm works, but I would hate to see your channel go away from your normal forthright honest style in a chase for views or paid sponsors. 🙏

Kids love to travel, to explore, to experience new things. You don''t need to buy expensive new cars for that, just make sure that it is well maintained, reliable and comfy. We regularly do 2-4 k miles European tours in summer, with 10+ or 20+ years old cars, never had any issues and I'm not a mechanic, just a regular petrolhead. There are a lot of superb campsites across the continent, you can rent great bungalows or safari tents for an accessible price. If you love to drive and travel, just go for it. For that many faults thrown up .. usually a low voltage across the canbus. Often the cause is the Earth connection in left front wheelarch - works when wet - intermittent when dry. Other one is battery .. anything older than 5 years is a roll of the dice, and finally, Alternator output - diode can fail and drain battery alarmingly quickly

You showed which modules had faults, but you didn’t go in to the errors to see what they actually were. With these cascade faults happen, you need a code reader that gives you time and distance when the fault(s) happen, then you can work out which one happened first, then you start your diagnosis there. I would guess a suspension level sensor or their calibration (do a full suspension height reset/calibration) these are used for everything from headlights, ABS, stability, driver aids etc Also check your battery and alternator, voltage issues drive the ecu’s and systems mad and throw loads of codes
@seayavietnam3 күн бұрын
I'd be checking your alternator. If your voltage isn't where it should be, this is typical of what happens. Especially in that weather with everything on. Stubbornly driving in the middle lane also pisses off the car 😉

JLR know they have a captive audience hence why they’ve made no effort in last few decades to sort the reliability issues. Their products are usually at the bottom of Reliability Studies but so long as demand is strong, JLR don’t and won’t bother sorting the reliability issues out

You don’t get fined unless it’s 10 sessions or more which is 5 whole days. Take mine out all the time 2 days before half term saves £100s just by flying out 2days before the schools finish. All we get is a letter stating it’s unauthorised leave and will be referred to the council. Council when you find there terms and conditions states 10sessions missed

The way they word the letter is disgraceful 🧐

I had similar issues in my Mercedes and it was an ABS sensor that went bad, knocked out abs, cruise control, traction control and other things too. Cheap and easy fix

LRs are very sensitive to their batteries and the 12v system. Had this on a Disco with lots of random electrical issues but nothing was actually wrong, changed the battery but didn’t fix it - was the alternator in the end, once replaced it was fine afterwards. May be worth checking it.

Thank you for bringing us along on a big family adventure. I did smile when your wife was the trouble-maker and trying to get you to drive through the puddles However, all I can say is wow some commenters really need to get a life. Ben takes the time to spend part of his family holiday literally working (a big ]'no-no' for me) and trying to show what a RR is like to live with, and sharing his families adventures ands all people care about is lane discipline from probably days, or even weeks ago. You all know it's well in the past right? Yes, lane discipline is important and it can be really annoying, even potentially dangerous but if that's what you you cared about after watching then you are very sad. You're also not the police or road enforcement, so it's none of your business...

Thanks man, it’s really nice seeing subscribers enjoying this one 😊 I personally think negative comments say more about the poster than the content they are moaning about 🤷♂️ I’ll make sure I get more shots in the middle lane on our next adventure 😂

My L322 was the same. Loads of seemingly random electric faults. Ended up being the alternator on the way out. Not enough power to run it all!

Tebay services. Possibly the most expensive service station in Britain. I do like that it's different though. I drive up to Scotland every two weeks. I couldn't live with the anxiety those cars bring. Although it does appear to get better mpg than my Citroen Relay 😂

Agreed, once I replaced the main 12v battery in my old L405, the electrical gremlins were sorted…well for a while anyway!

Every modern luxury vehicle goes through these issues. Typically if the accessory safety items like ABS, traction, lane keep, camera, etc all start coming together it has to do with the charging system being below acceptable range so it disables secondary items to keep the vehicle operating till charging levels regain acceptable range. Check the charging system, battery, alternator, etc and keep the battery maintained. I've worked for most of the luxury manufacturers and they ALL do it.

There speaks someone who knows nothing about Range Rovers but overheard a story.
@williamegler87713 күн бұрын
@@TicketyBoo.You really shouldn't assume anything because it just makes you look foolish! Over the years I have owned several JLR vehicles and my father's family has owned a garage that specializes in their maintenance and repair and has owned that particular garage since 1957. Land Rover and Range Rover as well as Jaguar are usually right at the bottom or near the bottom in any customer survey and they have relatively poor owner satisfaction and retention rates. Their reputation is also shown by their disastrous depreciation especially after the warranty expires. The chairman of JLR stated in a speech to shareholders that the company loses approximately 100,000 sales per year because of its reputation and that its profitability is impacted because of warranty claims. Nothing worse than a "FANBOY" trying to convince people that they are Lexus-like in their reliability and durability and that a majority of them can be driven a million miles was just an annual service and windshield washer fluid top-up without so much as even an advisory on an MOT!
@williamegler87713 күн бұрын
@@TicketyBoo.Also, none of the mechanics or family members drive a JLR vehicle even though they have the opportunity to purchase some usually quite inexpensively from clients who are fed up paying for repairs on them! If they were so reliable and durable why wouldn't mechanics who know their mechanical and electrical foibles inside and out buy one and drive a luxury vehicle cheaply?
@TJW043 күн бұрын
@@williamegler8771 lexus like in reliability cos those are the epitome of reliability right, so good that my wifes oil leaking lexus rx is having its brand new engine fitted after 30k miles ? so good that my is250 died after it sucked the dpf into the engine and was then written off and the dealer wanted nothing to do with it , yes what a quality vehicle nothing touches that japanese quality 👍every lexus new or old i have had has caused nothing but stress and anxiety within my household and i am not touching another and i advise anyone else to do the same , absolute joke that you can even tell people that they are flawless , the cars you swear by are crap , million miles my arse , stop spouting your opinions in comment sections trying to influence others what to buy and let them be happy
@williamegler87713 күн бұрын
@TJW04 Why don't you compare statistically the problems experienced by Lexus owners to the problems experienced by JLR owners? No vehicle is immune from problems but I'm sure a majority of owners of both marques will experience far fewer problems with the Lexus. Lexus has a much higher owner satisfaction and retention rate does much better in consumer surveys and has a much higher resale value. I could care less what people drive but don't try to pretend that a polished turd is a diamond.
