Not with Toyota, Honda and Mazda from my experience. They can easily survive several hundred thousand miles, if they are looked after, and hardly require any major repairs. In the UK, they are likely to die from rust first, before anything major goes wrong with the engine or transmission. This can be avoided also, by adding some rust proofing underneath and checking on it every couple of years.

There is a reason Range Rovers depreciate badly, and this video sums it all up. Beautifully designed vehicle, delight to drive, well appointed inside and out, let down by ridiculously over priced below average quality parts. These vehicles seem to get to a certain age and mileage where the faults and failures overwhelm most people, even if you think you are keeping on top of it the next eye watering bill will quickly be around the corner. When you read out the receipts the story unfolded, the owner got to the end of their patience with constant high cost repairs that they likely punched the infotainment display or threw something at it then abandined the money pit. Land Rover are doing themselves no favours, these vehicles are seen as worthless junk after a certain age as they are just not built to last with over priced parts and complex time consuming repairs, this is why they depreciate like a lead weight after a certain age and mileage, nobody wants them. It's a shame, lovely vehicles to drive, sit in and look at but not salvageable due to depreciation and cost of repair. Break it or scrap it, it may be a cheap fix but whoever buys it off you will hate you forever when the suspension airbags go or the ECU's fry. Lexus do not have these issues, but I would say BMW and Audi SUVs are just as expensive to maintain.

[15:00] Why gutless until 3k rpm? My optimistic guess... I suspect turbo actuator or stuck VNT. Vanes stuck in high rpm mode. This would show up as underboost on diagnostic, but probably wouldn't throw a check engine light. Over-fuelling at low rpm, so smoke when the turbo finally spools up. Best case: just the electronic actuator/connection/wiring, worst case: turbo refurb. You can probably then map out the EGRs if they're still an issue.

I’d get rid… too much cost and as you say not a guaranteed fix. But I picked up one of these for myself as a week end car in November (wanted one from the day I first saw it in real life). It’s was no where near as bad as this but I had awful lag then it would just shoot forward. I scanned it and got an egr code also, Problem was fixed and code gone for me by using ‘wynns egr valve cleaner spray’ (cleans turbo system also) and I only use esso premium diesel which has a high amount of cleaning additives. I’ve just had a full service today and the car does have some flaws (seized Caliper bleed screws oil on gearbox transfer case) BUT it drives like a dream. Very responsive and smooth. Maybe try the spray… it costs £12 and worst case scenario nothing will change. Best case it becomes drivable again, just follow the instructions exactly as it says on the website, the reviews are hit and miss I suspect the people that it didn’t work for didn’t follow the instructions properly.

Even in the unlikely event that you get off lightly, you have another £1,000-£2,000 worth of odds and ends to fix like the tyres, seat, cracked media screen etc. You could easily spend £4-5,000 on this and it will still have issues. Thats only an EGR fault, if it was turbo it wouldn't spool at all, unwanted EGR flow chokes the engine until the turbo spools and pushes the fresh air past the EGR inlets on the manifold. Get it to a garage who actually know that engine, they take 3 hours to change both EGRs, that includes 2 coffee breaks. It's a shame you're so far away from me else I'd happily help you out with it. Unfortunately garages just want service work nowadays and not the more complex break your wrists work, of which the 2.7 EGR's are a bit of a nightmare if you don't know what you're doing. If it was my own, I'd be putting two EGR's on it purely for peace of mind as ones already sticking and throw it out the door, there's plenty of history with it to back that it's been a well loved truck prior to the EGR sticking. Happy New Year to you.

The whole car is in a great condition and has a good history, even if you sell it under the market price and not have a profit, would get the content for us 😅 Also, I think it’s totally possible to sell it with a £500 profit and still under value, it’d only take a longer time. I bought a 4.2 supercharged vogue SE (looks like clarksons but petrol) its been a massive pain in my aris however, what a machine! Spent just under a grand on it so far still got a lot of work to go but still cheaper then an L403! Give that pug powered girl up for parts and let the petrols go on!

Currently living the dream. 2014 DISCO 4 with 125,000. You can almost guarantee that after 100,000, you need to replace: Cross over pipe Cam cover / manifold EGR to exhaust pipes All suspension arms and bushes. ARB bushes. Oil pump Turbos at some point Vacuum pump, servo and master cylinder. Thermostat housing Oil filter housing. Some of that is just maintenance. A lot of it should survive past 125,000 with oil changes every 5,000. I still love it but I describe it as a hobby because it makes no financial sense to run one.

A bit disappointing to see that this up for £3k as spare & repair on ebay and you brought for £1k. From advert sounds like you have not done the work needed and taking in consideration the clicks and advert revenue you will get from youtube it seems a bit like a current trend for the new year. Buy a banger make a video and do no work to the car, sell the car for more and youtube money comes rolling in as well. Very good plan for 2024 your accountant will be even more happy😂👍👍

Do what most dealers do and sell it as P/X bargain, still make enough to cover your time, or alternatively break it and use the squeaky chair at your desk in your office.

Another cracking video, Matt. I always call Range Rovers, "Triggers brooms", because everything gets replaced so often that there is never anything of the original car left after a few years. Dead easy choice, break it, don't sell it and then have a customer bring it back 100 times in the first week and badmouths you for the rest of its, his and your life.

EGR is mainly mechanical thing. We in Serbia are cleaning them. They clog during time. Remove it, clean, and return... if valve is working.

Fit cheap egr blanking kit or use old coins / piece of metal both sides , does not bring dash lights on , check turbo actuator and lubricate it through access panel in passenger side wheel arch , use old metal coat hanger , I’ve done a few 2.7 same symptoms worked a treat , diy job for a lot of people Matt good luck

I’d nip across the road to the Etherow Cafe for a strong cup of tea. Spin a coin and see which way it falls. There’s always remote control boating if you get tired of Range Rovers and there’s usually the odd crust to be had from the duck feeders. Hope that helps!

Get the range rover sport fixed completely and then it would be worth more money mat at Aston Barclay car auctions why don't you go to some of the car auction centres and buy a decent range rover sport with no repairs you would be in heaven l was when l bidded for a range rover sport and it past its not and inspections with flying colours nothing came back but wow wow wow from my mechanic

Matt honestly you know enough people in various trades to easily put this back on the road for not a lot of money. Trust me someone will buy it off you, mileage doesn't really mean anything these days imo. I've watched you from the early days and you'll kick yourself if you don't even attempt to sort it. All the best for the year

Try an EGR blanking kit (£10) and because it’s post 2007 you’ll need a map for EGR delete. Mine was 2005 so didn’t need the map. Worked a treat. If it’s not that, perhaps get rid, if it is, you’re quids in!
@brianwhittington508611 ай бұрын
The symptoms sound more like a sticking EGR valve, Matt, and possible leak, somewhere on the boost hoses. The EGR valves can often be cleaned out and work perfectly at a fraction of the cost. Any old school Mechanic or Engineer would take it apart and repair it, or maybe fit a used part if it's unserviceable. Today, many Mechanics are Fitters, they dont diagnose symptoms, they just go for the easy option of replacing with a new part. You really need to be using someone more sympathetic, and experienced towards repair when you have a vehicle on the balance of being economical to fix.

Hello Matt, either listed back for the amount your in for, or if you're not in a hurry, get your DYI mechanic friend to sell it as parts for you.

If a scan shows EGR, it does not mean that that is where the fault is. A bit of diagnosis and testing will narrow it down easily.
@fernandoroldan228811 ай бұрын
Change the fuel filter blank the EGR change the fuel pressure sensors add some forte Injectors cleaner that is about/ £500 it should work then if doesn’t just break it in to a parts car

Make it a project car Matt. Fix everything, give it a proper valet and polish and hold onto it till someone comes along to help you break even hopefully this year.
@robblack756011 ай бұрын
Easy to "blank-off" the EGR and check but wouldn't matter, just part it out, even if you do sell it repaired, it will be a boomerang car with the new owner and yourself.
@1chish11 ай бұрын
Just read some comments and the instant Answer Mechanics are suggesting deleting the EGR valves. 'Cos its cheap'. Well the EGR Valves should NOT be removed on vehicles that still have the DPF Filter in place, doing so may block the DPF as the EGR Valve operation is a prerequisite for DPF Regeneration. Legalities. Also in the UK it is illegal to remove any of the original emissions equipment fitted to a vehicle from the factory. Vehicles with the DPF or EGR removed will fail an MOT.

Good afternoon Matt I really enjoyed this video and I tell you for why. A mate of mine has just bought the identical car to what you've got the one he has bought has done 125000 miles and he paid 5 1/2 thousand pounds for it lucky for him it came with new brakes pads and discs and 4 brand new tyres. But he's still had to spend £1,000 on it for replacement of a drive shaft bearing. So just maybe it might be worth the gamble to fix your one because he's always someone out there willing to buy anything....cheers Phil from Newark

A car that clean deserves to stay in service, it would make a nice car for a youngster or someone on a budget. I get that its hard when you look at it from the profit perspective. You probably aint gonna get rich off of it but those of us who love and appreciate Land Rovers understand. The right person is willing to pay a little more for a real clean and sorted out rover. I know I have before.

It's just not me who can't stand car forums or clubs. They tend to be full of smart Alecs, Nerds, busy bodies and people think who always seem to think they know what they are on about. Worst ones are classic car ones, Citroen one's in particular. You're right. Stay clear of forums. I had it all the time over my various classic Citroen CX's and Dyanes.

If you want to try a cheapo "will it or won't it fix it?" option, change the fuel filter. My van was giving an injectors error and showing similar symptoms --pedal no the metal and the revs struggling to get above idle.. All the doom-mongers on the forums were delighting in telling me how much it would cost to change the injectors and what a pig of a job it was. I swapped in a new fuel filter and took it for a thrash down the road in first gear. A couple of splutters and a cough and it was fine. And hasn't missed a beat in the two years since. Not saying that is the case with your Landy. But it's always the first thing I'd try, with these symptoms, before hacksawing the padlock off my wallet.
