Cheap Studio Essentials Every Photographer Needs (with BTS breakdown)

I go in-depth with low-tech gear we all need as photographers. Whether you have a studio or a cluttered closet, here's a few pieces of camera equipment I use in my day-to-day that help me achieve the shots my clients ask. In the second half, I shoot a new portfolio image with the use of all these essentials to show you how you could use them for your own workflow.

you can also use a polarising filter gel on the key light, then also use a polarising filter on the camera, and the right combination should remove a harsh reflection/hot spot, without losing the hard light quality (that said i like the effect you got with your set up!)

My friend who does most my tattoos does that with his phone and LED light to kill the highlights on a fresh tat!

I pulled out pad and paper to watch this. What a surprise! I have most of these items. I am looking for something, maybe you can help me with. When I do a flat lay images, I need to elevate small products. I've found really expensive solutions, but am looking for something more reasonable. Any suggestions?

For a flat lay, don’t overthink it! Anything smaller than the subject you’re propping on top it will work fine! I’ve used a baby plate, my fancy risers, but I’ve also used a shoe box or a rolled up piece of tape.
