Question: how capable is ur wrecker compared to other 4x4’s, considering it’s added weight and size? I’m thinking about building something Similar some day but id wanna do some hard core wheeling, idk between wrecker, or just basic pickup. The wrecker sure would be useful, but idk if it could keep up with the smaller, lighter pickups n jeeps
@offroadrecoveryteam4 жыл бұрын
The weight and the lack of suspension articulation do hinder it's off-road capability, compared to a buggy or well built jeep. But it is a very capable off-road vehicle, compared to an average built Jeep or truck with the right driving style.
@rm555554 жыл бұрын
I always enjoy your videos but not sure I'd recommend a WJ for serious off roading even though it has the capability. They're designed more for highway cruising while being able to venture off the beaten track. You've probably already seen all the unnecessary components/extras you don't want or need. The iconic XJ would have been a much better choice imo and no doubt cheaper to maintain and modify too! Maybe when this one breaks, the XJ would make a good replacement. Arguably they have a larger following too.

In some cases the rebuild kits are more expensive than the rebuilt calipers If you can even find the kits.

@Iamthathillbilly4 жыл бұрын
1Truckman maybe I’m just lazy or put a high value on my own time and effort, but that doesn’t seem like a lot of money to me, but to be fair I live in the rust belt so you’re dealing with a crusty nasty rotten caliper with a seized bleeder, I always just go with a new caliber if they give me any trouble

Put a C-clamp on the caliper and push the piston in, then the caliper will come off easily. Unless it's sticking so bad a C-clamp won't move it.

Lucky you on the free tires. Question Eric if you have time to answer; I've been told not to touch the friction surface of the pads (or shoes in the case of older vehicles and big trucks with drum brakes) with your bare hands even if your hands are "clean" as the natural oil in your skin can be absorbed into the material and reduce the braking ability. Is there any truth to this or are some people just a little over cautious? I've done more sets of brakes than I can count in my life and never had an issue caused by skin oil so I'm genuinely interested in your opinion. Anyway I enjoy your videos very much and always look forward to them. Thanks for quality content.
@leorapsonjr76594 жыл бұрын
I think that's mostly so you don't get grease, dirt and other contaminants on the braking surface. Wheel bearing grease sucks on brakes.... ask me how I know.
@Hugofreddie4 жыл бұрын
With a lifetime on prewar cars , I have heard and seen brake contamination . Handling briefly has never done much harm in my humble opinion but brake fluid and grease on the pads is never good . The only thing I do different is lather all the bolts in copperease .
@offroadrecoveryteam4 жыл бұрын
Not as critical as grease, or brake fluid. Should wash pads/shoes, and rotor/drum with brake clean when done.
